Nah, I'm sick of the dumb clichés like "trust the Yzerplan". Raymond and Veleno have been our best players in the preseason. Blashill straight up said on numerous occasions, that if they outperform the vets, then they will earn a spot. I guess that was an absolute lie. Carter Rowney is terrible, Namestnikov has done nothing, Givani Smith hasn't impressed, and Gagner hasn't done anything either.

It makes no sense to cut the players that stood out the most in the preseason for the sole reason that they don't have to be placed on waivers. Waive Rowney, I guarantee no team would pick him up, and if someone did happen to, well then who cares, he's brutal.

I'm trying to be patient here, and yeah this is obviously premature, because nothing has been finalized, but it will be a slap in the face to both Veleno and Raymond if they are sent down, but plugs like Rowney and Namestnikov are playing. Also a slap in the face to fans who just want to be entertained.

Anyone who says Yzerplan unironically these days...

Bertuzzi-Larkin-Zadina
Fabbri-Suter-Raymond
Rasmussen-Veleno-Erne
Namestnikov-Stephens-Gagner
(Smith/Rowney)
No need for Ryan.

A bit soft... a lot soft. But oh well.
You can replace Namestnikov or Gagner with Smith IF you have enough PKers

PK- Namestnikov/Gagner/Stephens/Rasmussen/Veleno/Larkin

You can move Zadina/Raymond/Erne up and down the RW until you optimize.

The "process" of kids in the AHL at this point is ridiculous. We suck,. how about give the fans something to watch. This isn't Nyquist/Tatar over-ripening because we have too many options. We have no other options, and Veleno and Raymond have done more than enough to earn a spot.

I have no idea how AHL could help Raymond or Veleno,

The only thing I can think is that Raymond will get more time in the AHL to work on his strength and conditioning. We all know Swoleno doesn't need that.

That, and Yzerman doesn't want to improve the team to the point where we're not in the running for a lottery pick just yet.

Yzerman should make a call and trade Zadina for Zac Jones + a little something, and then ensure Raymond makes team
What’s our issue with just have 3 lines worth of talent instead of 2. That’s what the back to back cup champs have had

Would Skinner and Eichel be out of the question here?

Skinner - Eichel - Zadina
Bertuzzi - Larkin - Raymond

- bertuzzi is a 1st liner because of his iq developed as a born n bred rink rat
- all the kids i dont care if start in ahl it might be best for them to develop more physically
- of the kids ide bring veleno up because hes more physically matured , even though raymond more valuable . i dont care about a few more wins over raymonds long term development

BERTUZZI-LARKIN-VELENO (speed factor gets line all d zone face offs because they can get puck up ice)
FABBRI-SUTER-ZADINA (talent factor gets line all o zone face offs)
ERNE-RASMUSSEN-RYAN (o zone power line . mean while fellow big bodys razz and ern learning from ryan)
????-STEPHENS-???? (there might be a player added to roster , love stephens)

* larkin n veleno can flip flop between center and wing to get veleno center development

I have no idea how AHL could help Raymond or Veleno,
Raymond is 19 years old and has never played more than 37 games in a single season and that was Frolunda Jr.

It's an awfully big jump to go from 34 games in Frolunda to being an every day NHL player. As Holden points out, easier to call up than have them start out the year on the big club and get sent down.

I think we're all traumatized from years of "tie goes to the veteran" but the official roster hasn't even been released yet. If the Wings continue to be terrible and it looks like Raymond is going to spend the season in the AHL, then I'll get angry.

It’s funny how you word this, because my stance is 100% the opposite when it comes to how Raymond impacts wins vs his development.

It’s better for his development to be in the NHL, and probably has a negative impact on wins over the course of the season because I’m expecting growing pains and the stamina requirements to last an 82 game season.

I think he will help the team improve, but it won’t be noticed in the win column as much as we would hope.

Veleno, Seider, and Raymond need to be in the lineup come opening night. Doesn't really seem that Namestnikov or Gagner have done much at all during preseason.

Reymond played in SHL last season, not juniors, he was second line , regular at PP.

Raymond love to see him in the starting lineup on Thursday however I expect he may not have the stamina to handle an 82 game schedule even with the Olympic break.

Right. I may have worded it confusingly but the most games he ever played in a single season was 37, which was Frolunda Jr. Last season in the SHL he played 34 games.

For me it feels a bit weird to say 37 games. That season he played 37 games with Frölunda U20 in regular season, sure, but he also played 11 games in the playoffs (5 j18, and 6 U20, those playoffs was going on at the same time). In addition to that he also played 10 games in the SHL.
And then he also played 38 international games (13 games to play in and to prepare for the U17 worlds, and 25 U18 games (Hlinka, WJC U18, and preparations).

In total Raymond played 96 games that season. To just count the regular season games of one league seems a bit off to me.

With that said, It's a very difficult decision they have, NHL or the AHL which is best? I could see the merits of either case.

Before the camp I thought he needed to go to the AHL for some time, round out his NA sized game a bit. However I think Raymond showed that he can handle the NHL pace and players in the 3 first games this pre-season, so I would guess that a Thornton type of treatment (Play in the NHL, but handle fatigue by having him sit out a few games every now and then) would be best for his development.

As logical as us giving up a blue chip prospect for a broken player and the second worst contract in the league.
I don't remember saying I would do that. But keep up the fantasy land homer trade logic, it works every time.
