Not ideal. Stamkos did score a goal in this game. Just so happened to be for the Sens.

f*** off Caps. Wilson takes a puck to the face earlier and leaves the game. Comes back and scores the tying goal.
Habs up 2-1 headed into the 3rd.
Habs had 3 clear cut breakaways … didn’t score on any of the 3 . Had another open chance that was essentially a 4th breakaway , dint score. Caps come back and score and now up 4-2 …. Like come on. I can’t stand the Caps . Learn how to finish Habs players like come on.So frustrating as the Habs had a chance to burry them but couldn’t score on 4 glorious chances ….

Thompson was also lights out in net on all of those break away chances. He played out of his mind in the 3d period.

Also did you see Chychrun’s behind the back no look pass to Dylan Strome to set up the last Washington goal? Wow not to be forgotten and also that guy can really skate. When Ovi went down I thought thought the Caps were dinged but after a couple of games they’ve just kept right on going.

At some point the clock will strike midnight and Chychrun and Strome will not be the best defender and center in thr NHL .

Marchessault outscored 8 to 5 at 5v5 with a 44% xG. Stamkos 10 to 5 with a 43% xG. Both 3 5v5 pts each. Min 200 minutes they rank T339 out of 352 Fs. Praise Barry Trotz from saving us from the nightmare of Fitz signing one of those guys

Yeah I mean they won't continue to shoot ~12.5% at 5v5 for the year but they also have the 6th best xG%. They dominated us for the majority of our game time. They're legitimately great

They are playing well and are all on the same page. But teams like the Canes and Caps don’t ultimately win in the playoffs. They are already playing like it’s the playoffs. This is as good as they get.

Not sure about Chychrun - He may remain up there among the best. Like Necas in Carolina this may be a guy having a breakout to another level. That play he just made tonight is one only a handful of players make. That power play goal against us too.

I don't think Chychrun's all that great. He's also not even their best Dman. He's at best their 3rd. Sandin and Carlson are both much better. I think Roy is also better.

Maybe we will see. They are still a collection of flawed players on a shooting better and giving 100% in regular season games

I was really down on the Canes coming into the this year because I didn't think they'd have the juice offensively. I think they could do it now. They're spamming point shots less frequently, pushing for offense more, and they have a legit offensive star right now in Necas. The goaltending hurts though.

Maybe. I won’t count them out but I’m skeptical. Necas has really turned it up this season but he’s not Jack and I’m not sure he’s even up to Bratt’s level. They rely a lot on their system and high effort. That’s great in the regular season but everyone tries in the playoffs and you need to be able to play and cheapshot and hit and I’m not sure they can play well enough and in fhe playoffs all teams hit and cheapshot to varying degrees

You don't need to cheap shot. See Avs, Pens. What's held them back the most is the way they play wasn't conducive to creating consistent good looks. That seems better now. Any of the top 6 teams in the East winning the conference wouldn't shock me at this point

Chychrun is sort of a poor man’s Dougie. More mobile, but not as good offensively and absolutely an elite shooter. He has crazy great vision and a real wicked shot.

When you watch him live you can see it. He has Dougie-esque moments where you can see him picking teams apart and finding shooting lanes.

That’s why Chychrun made no sense for us when we already had Dougie but that boy can score.

I’m pretty sure Stamkos is washed. Him and Palat will be playing with Bolts alumni teams in no time.

There was an article somewhere over the summer highlighting that Kucherov was the reason he still looked elite and produced at a PPG. There was talk of it all over the place. That may be the explanation for why he quickly jumped to 40 years old this offseason.

I think he’s probably closer to the Vancouver and last Rangers tenure version of Messier than anything right now.

And Marchessault also looks toast. He got a 5 year deal? I kept thinking it was only a 3 year deal. What’s he gonna be when that deal ends? 45?

Trotz is a joke. I don’t care how good of a coach he was in the league. What does that have anything to do with his qualifications of being a GM?

Seems like he took some pages out of Lou’s book and added quite a few of his own.

Stamkos has been washed outside the PP for a while now but since he was with the murderers row of talent in TB it was easier to get at least something out of his at 5v5 and be a real threat on that PP. While I wanted absolutely nothing to do with Marchessault I'm surprised he's THIS bad. The Skjei for McDonagh swap is also a massive downgrade. Skjei's been bad and McDonagh's still an incredible two way D. I can't think of a worse offseason than the one Barry just had.
