Don’t worry

When Yegor Stud Sharangovich shows turns it on the Canes will be no match for Calgary in the 3rd period.

It isn’t a dumb rule. If there wasn’t the risk of losing the OTL point we would see some farcical 4v4 with no goalie hockey.
I don’t know why we would see that? Seems like there’s enough risk involved in pulling your goalie to deter doing that without the goofy rule. One giveaway, you lose. As we’ve done how many countless times this year with the empty net.

I’d love to see more of that — it’s far better than the horrific shootout.

I never knew that was thing. That's kind of a stupid rule. If anything I'd give them extra point for having to carry around the massive pair of nuts it takes to do that.

Nobody would do that.

Eh, it's a smart rule. Teams would play even worse hockey in OT in terms of ragging the puck if there was no disadvantage to it.

The Wild were eight points out of a playoff spot with 18 to go, yeah they kind of needed to press the issue and get two, especially against one of the teams they're chasing. Usually you only see that strategy when it's absolutely a necessity the last game of the season though.

And no it's not a stupid rule to take away the point, you have to have an actual deterrent to pulling the goalie besides losing an extra point that you might lose anyway. Hell if I was a bad shootout team I'd rather pull the goalie in OT if there was no risk to it.

What risk, lose one point you might lose in the shootout anyway? Or in regular three-on-three play? Someone's gonna lose that point regardless.

Stud with another goal because Freddie the fossil can’t handle a puck.

Definitely softy of the night leader at the moment. I only have two on Jarry so far and neither was nearly that bad. And that’s it for the day to this point.

I’d like to know this: if you pull the goalie because of a delayed penalty in OT and put it in your own net, do you get 0 points?

no ...you keep the point

edit:

here's the whole bit

84.2 Overtime – Regular-season – Extra Attacker - A team shall be allowed to pull its goalkeeper in favor of an additional skater in the overtime period. However, should that team lose the game during the time in which the goalkeeper has been removed, it would forfeit the automatic point gained in the tie at the end of regulation play, except if the goalkeeper has been removed at the call of a delayed penalty against the other team.

Should the goalkeeper proceed to his bench for an extra attacker due to a delayed penalty call against the opposing team, and should the non-offending team shoot the puck directly into their own goal, the game shall be over and the team that was to be penalized declared the winner.

Once the goalkeeper has been removed for an extra attacker in overtime during the regular-season, he must wait for the next stoppage of play before returning to his position. He cannot change “on the fly.” If he does, a bench minor penalty shall be assessed for having an ineligible player.

The risk is you potentially lose the game and chance at the 2nd point with one bad giveaway as opposed to having a fighting chance in the shootout. I just don’t see why the league would even want to deter an exciting play like this? Just seems like an anti-fun rule that doesn’t need to exist. The shootout is already a chickenshit way to decide a game — the fewer shootouts, the better.

He didn’t even know lol
