Oshawa Generals 2024 25 Season Thread Part Ii

When players refuse to report pre draft to any team but them and/or demand trades to them it’s not money or effective GM’ing. Nothing wrong with the Hunters. They are good at what they do. If the league wants parody then they have to step in and say report to who drafts you or play somewhere else. If a top player gets drafted and demands a trade then the team that trades for said player loses their first round pick. It’s obvious the league doesn’t care about parody. Are those the right answers? I don’t know. But like I said good on the Hunters as they’ve built a program where kids want to go so none of these super teams in London will go away. Roger Hunt is a great GM. He has a very good track record on the player side. As many have noted in a year different than this year Oshawa may have won. Don’t agree with what was done about coaching this year but the Laxdal leaving was a shock to the organization. Anyways it’s junior hockey. It’s a sport it’s entertaining and I will continue to watch as I am more focused on seeing players develop. Sure love the team I cheer for to win but love seeing a kid like Anthony Cirelli go from being a walk on to a pro. Thats the sport I love. Enjoy the summer. Cheers.

London will continue to have super teams for as long as Dale Hunter coaches.

One or two get away (runaway) players, does not make a full team, besides, London had to use a bunch of seconds and third rounders to pay for them. That alone should tell us all, that London should get weaker in a couple of years time like all teams, but it never happens. Why is that ? It is the team system implemented by Dale and his staff and the development of their young players in minor leagues before joining the big club. Nicholl, Cowan, Bonk, Medvedev, O'Reilly, Woolley, Julien and Read, all of them on this year's roster. They have all played one full year of development in Junior A or B leagues after drafted and before being brought back in their second season on the Knights' roster. And I can provide you with countless names throughout the years that others went through the same development. It is a combination of the two brothers, Mark brings in and develop the players, and Dale teaches them the game and the team system. Excessive players developed by Mark Hunters are traded for draft picks in order to either acquire more runaway players or drafting additional players for development. All OHL/CHL teams can do this on their own, it just that London started it a few years sooner.

As an Oshawa Generals fan, I believe Beckett Sennecke may go down as one of those NHL draft picks that don’t pan out, and Anaheim might end up regretting taking him third overall. While he has impressive stickhandling and a strong shot, we saw in the London series how easily he can be taken out of the play—something NHL players will exploit even more. He also takes too many selfish penalties and needs to improve his defensive game. There’s little doubt the Ducks will return him to the OHL next season—he isn’t ready yet.

Does anyone hear any rumors of any Gens players going to NCAA next season, other than Powell going to Arizona State, which is not that big of a loss.

Projected 2025-2026 Gens Line Up

Buckley OA - Griffin - Sennecke
Martin OA - Fransen - Rigowski
Lobo - Toms - Figlimoni
Hinde - ??? - Roberts

Sandu OA - Danford
Wang - Blaseg

Sennecke and Danford are signed by their NHL clubs, so Griffin is the only guy that could consider it probably. And he could probably use another year in the O before that anyway, if thats something hes considering. Wang moved his BC commitment to 2026, so I think Gens are safe from the NCAA for now.

hopefully can upgrade on Martin in the OA market. I think theres a solid shot Sinivouri is back, maybe dealt to a contender. 2 other import spots, Svozil stuck around as a healthy scratch meaning he probably wants to be back unless the Gens find 2 better imports.

Team is going to be very rough, especially after Christmas when Sennecke and Danford are gone. Gens may look to move Wang at the deadline too, maybe even Griffin if he is considering college.

Both Beckette and Ben will be back as both are only 19 and to young to play in the AHL and game is not ready for the NHL.

I agree Martin would need an upgrade and I don't see them bringing back either European import.

I know, I am saying they are signed because that means they signed away their NCAA eligibility (cant play in the NCAA if you have signed an NHL contract). And they are really the only guys that it would make sense for to play college next season.

Is that how it works i am still not 100% up to the rules with the NCAA

Would be nice if there is some sort of regulations around it.

Ya no surprise there. Hey we had a couple good years of playoff hockey. Hard to compete with a roster like that. Maybe with the arena upgrades some of the refusing to report all stars will end up here lol. Rocco should have some money to burn after 2 long playoff runs. To the rebuild we watch. Have a good summer man.
Two fantastic years, nearly every team besides London would be ecstatic and very lucky to see their team win back to back conference championships. Unfortunately ran into two of the best London teams in their orgs history. Very proud of this team and everything they’ve done the last couple of years.

No one mentioned Danford's shot block from last night. Fearless. Loved to see that.
The kid is a shot blocking machine, and I’m convinced has an insanely high tolerance for pain. I’ve lost count the amount of times he’s eaten a hard shot, winced a bit and then was right back doing it again, when I swear 99% of players would be done for the night. A Tanev/Carlo hybrid going forward.

Rogowski is 100% a Centre. Sinivuori should be back as well. So you start with Griffin-Rogowski-Sinivuori down the middle, which believe it or not, is likely better than every team in the league minus niagara or Windsor. The league is going to look way different next season, and I won’t be surprised to see oshawa have a Kitchener like season, despite likely trading Sennecke for a massive haul, similar to them dealing Rehkopf and then finishing 3rd in the West.

Elite prospects wouldn’t know this, perhaps they just assume. I know as of now oshawa expects him back. But if not, then they could potentially pick 3 new players. I never mentioned Sabourin at all, he was our 3rd goalie this year and I didn’t expect him to be back.

EP has it as "confirmed" with this link.

HIFK has him listed on their roster for next year.

There 4 OAs here Sabourin will not be back they will have a new goalie hoping it’s Rye from Peterborough

Will Brad Malone have the "Iterm" tag removed or will the team be looking for a new head coach.

You would think if the team thought Malone was the coach of the future they would have removed the Iterm tag and announced him as the head coach.

My season summary.

Laxdal leaving was a blow the Generals never recovered from. It was a great opportunity for him, one he couldn’t pass up, but they never found a replacement.

Lots of examples:

When they played team/system over individual they were very good. They just didn’t do it often enough. This was hi lighted in the PP. Playing the system a frightening capability, but all too often it devolved into individuals relying on their individual skills. And they were blessed with an abundance of skill, but, as the saying goes, there is no I in team.

They were one of, if not the biggest team in the OHL, but they rarely played that way. Again, very good when they did, just not often enough.

Zone exit/zone entry. Did they have a system?

The vast majority of the time zone exit was send it up the boards and win the puck battle. Except they didn’t often enough, see not playing like the bigger team. Compare to London’s zone exit; when the d got control a set play pass to a forward. No forward? Flip the puck and let the forward chase.

Zone entry, too many one and dones. When the played a system they exhibited great puck control, again, just not often enough.

Oster had another great year, but the further they went in the playoffs, the less support he got.

Yes, you cannot play in the NCAA if you have signed an NHL contract.
Mario Pouliot will be the next head coach.
Unlikely. Pouliot had no job for half a season so Gens signed him. Unlikely he wants to be apart of a rebuild, Malone likely coach of the future

As an outsider looking in I get the feeling Oshawa is going to be a MAJOR seller this coming season....gotta recoup picks
Sennecke, danford and Buckley imo are likely. I wonder about Sandhu too. I assume they keep griffin until following year when they trade him at 2026/27 deadline (I assume fronts do same with Hopkins)

Departures: Marelli, Ritchie, Barlow, Torrance, D’Amato, Powell, Gibson, Oster. Gonna be hit hard plus the inevitable trades.
