I love how the nobodies on Carolina do nothing against the Rags like Martinook, Kotkasuckass, and the other has beens they have but when they play us they become Wayne Gretzky. f***ing losers

If they lose to the Rangers or in the second round at all then that may be what's needed for them to not bring back Rod.
Unless they're down a number of important players and have been reduced to Raanta in net again. They currently have 3 guys in front of him on the goalie depth chart, but all it takes for Andersen to end up back on IR potentially is going for a piss.
He's literally the kind of guy that would end up on the IR for zipping himself.
Actually a strong defending effort by the Rags. So many skin of the teeth type defensive plays in front of their net all night long to prevent Carolina from getting a clear look at Shesterkin.
Both teams playing the trap. A total forecheck game and physical too.

They got dreadful games out of Aho and Svech again tonight against NYR, I really don't understand it anymore. They become utter zeros every time they play, it happened in 2022 too. Firing Brindamour for the ineptness of this team v NYR isn't coaching, these players just don't get it done against them for whatever reason. Maybe Shesterkin's in their head but of course they have no answer against them. If we play them, Kotkaniemi would have a hat trick before the 2nd and Martinook would've acted like Matt Tkachuk.
EDIT: Even Necas had a piss poor game tonight

As bad as we played last Spring against Carolina, they also at one point were shooting like 20% as a team against us lol. I know Shesterkin is significantly better than our goalies, but you know Carolina isn't shooting remotely close to that against the Rangers, just because.

I mean, I'm not asking Carolina's depth to come through like that but they consistently get dumpstered defensively by NYR in any big game. Just saying it would be nice to see Aho/Svech/Necas to do them what they consistently do to us
Saros has a career .917 save percentage. He is up to .907 after not being at his best earlier in the season. Even a down year from Saros is still worlds better than what we have thrown out there in goal.
He will be 29 in the Spring. If I’m giving up premium assets, give me the goalie who is 5 years younger. I would make him the prime target if I were Fitz.

Saros would be my #1 target, followed by Ullmark and then Markstrom.
Well, actually my #1 target would probably be Askarov, but I don't see Nashville doing that.

question - why does everyone want mike sullivan so bad? i used to be on that train but he’s failed to make the playoffs two years now with a pretty good roster and is known for a shitty power play.

That roster is not good. It’s aged a lot. They needed to add some young talent at some point and they didn’t.
A 36 year old Crosby is their best player. They just traded their 2nd best player to Carolina.
And coaches can have a sell by date.
Not sure Sullivan is a hard ass either, I’ve liked how Pittsburgh was coached in the past quite a bit.
Teams have hired good rookie coaches but fans usually want a coach with NHL experience because those are the guys they’ve heard of.

I think he can be good since we have more young talent and the Penguins roster is aging out.
Its going to be awesome when we still complain about the power play though.
Two of Philadelphia/NY Islanders/Detroit/Buffalo are gonna get in IMO. Tampa Bay I consider an almost certainty to get one of the WC spots (likely WC1). Then one of NYI or PHI gets Metro 3. And the other dukes it out for WC2 with DET and BUF. Devils and Penguins have thrown in the towel. I think Washington bows out too eventually in the coming weeks.

Wait, why exactly are Buffalo now getting in? They virtually have the same record as us. They have one more OT loss than we do and one more point in one more game played. They’re 5 points out and have two more games played than the team currently in the last spot (Islanders) and 5 points behind Detroit (first team on the outside) with one more game played. They’re about as cooked as us and Pittsburgh are.
Washington is done too, but they actually do have games in hand.
The playoff race won’t be as exciting as it would be for many of those teams to be battling it out. It’s honestly looking like it’s just gonna be 9 teams battling for 8 spots. Not 10 or 11 teams battling for 8 spots.
They are playing the best lately by far amongst all the teams in the race. They were 11 out like a week or two ago and now are down to 5 that quickly. And still have two more H2H games against DET and WSH and one against NYI and PHI. Plus with their goalie playing the way he has, they can win on any given night.
Hextall drove that roster into the ground and Dubas has not been flawless trying to pull it back - really hard to blame the coach too much. They are still above water in xG, and are shooting a league worst 7.54 with a PP that has been one of the worst in the league.
If they let him go, he moves to the top of my list - I think our personnel would work well with his system.

I’d really like to know how many teams since the NHL has been at least a 30 team league had 30 regulation losses after 66 games (really 64 games because that’s when they had regulation loss 30) wound up making the playoffs.
Has it ever happened before? Best case is they have a heroic run and fall just short.
Unless they win probably 13 or 14 of their remaining 16. Even with last night’s win they’ve lost 3 of their last 5 games, with one of those coming in OT.
Even last year’s Panthers had 5 more points after the same number of games, and I still thought they would fall just short at that time.
Regulation loss 30 came for them in game 73 and they only lost 2 more in regulation after that.
