100% The irony is while Florida is known as shithead team, the played a disciplined game this series. There was hardly any after the whistle stiff from them.

Smart move by them getting Lomberg and Cousins out of the lineup. I thought that would backfire, those guys can get people riled up, but Lomberg's hit on Vesey was really stupid and should've been a penalty/suspension - don't need that garbage against the Rangers.

The funny part is I don't think Bettman would hate a Florida-Dallas final as much as maybe the TV execs would...the year after Florida-Vegas it'd be another reminder of his sunbelt strategy to grow the US market.
ESPN hates either matchup and this why we got a broadcast that was more homer broadcast than an MSG Rangers telecast.

Florida-Edmonton is going to be near Anaheim-Senators for low ratings.

WHERE TROUBA GOING ON GOAL ONE LMAOOO
I just saw that vid, wtf is he doing there?

Carolina’s PP was also totally pathetic to start the series. Weren’t they outscored by the Rangers at one point on the PP?
I have to divide this up into, I don't watch all of it, and I can't remember that far back, but how much of that was Igor?

NY did have 2 shorties vs Florida as well.

As much as this year flies in the face of the "goalies don't matter" meme, might be the same for the coaches as well.

That's a defense with an old OEL, Mikkola and a Forsling off of waivers. Kulikov has been a solid pro for years, but I never really viewed Montour as very lights out and Ekblad just topped out at as a good if unremarkable player. Not exactly how you draw up the game plan.

But they have young and old players playing exactly right at the edge with aggressive sticks, doing all the cliched stuff, committed to the boards, blah blah. That kind of transformation organizationally is what you hope for us.

So is the difference between this series, and Carolina series, merely Bob vs Anderson?

I don’t think so. I feel like Carolina and the Rangers had the same amount of expected goals because Carolina had more quantity of chances but Rangers more quality. Florida crushed them in both regards. They also beat them in special teams

Looked like he shorted out and couldn't choose between actually playing defense and going for a hit. I'm just surprised he didn't stick his elbow out to try to finish Rodriguez off.

Yeah and even Carolina's chances were very low probability. Tons of soft shots from the outside and/or directly into the chest of Igor.

Not to mention that the Canes wilted under any pressure the Rags forced on them, Panthers were down 1-0 in Game 4 and 5 and still won. Cats also came back after losing two soul crushing OT games unlike the Canes. The Panthers's core is mentally way better than the Canes core by a mile

54% xGA for Carolina.
58% xGA for Florida.

So yeah Florida did beat NYR down worse then Carolina did, but stick a good goalie in net for the Canes as opposed to a crappy one?

Carolina actually scored more goals in 6 games then Florida did.

Absolutely IMO. And after crunching these numbers, I’m strongly convinced.

4 of Andersen’s 5 games in the series were like Bob’s game 3, only even worse. Andersen was an .877% in that series. Kochetkov did play one of the 6 games, he should have played more.

Think about this for a minute. Andersen allowed 4 more goals than Bob did in one fewer game.

Igor allowed 4 more goals to Carolina in the same number of games than he did to Florida. If I counted this right, Igor played approximately 11 more minutes in the Canes series than he did in the Panthers series. And he allowed 4 more goals to the Hurricanes than he did to the Panthers.

I was afraid Bob was going to do the same thing Freddie did to his team, after the iffy game 2 OT winner and game 3. He also had similar numbers to Andersen these playoffs coming into this series. But he had a pretty solid series.

Andersen completely flushed his team.

While I still stand by that Bob isn’t what he used to be, he’s still a decent goalie. You can’t seriously be putting in Frederik Andersen in 2024 and be a cup contender.

This is even more reason the Canes should wanna cap dump him on Chicago this offseason.

Canes came back from 1-0 in game 2, 2-1 in the 3rd in game 3, and 1-0 in game 5.

Also scored in the 3rd to win game 4 after blowing a 2 goal lead.

Bob was really good, I don't think the game 2 OT goal, nor any of the goals in game 3 were bad. Especially when put into the broader perspective. They may not have come from the big names, but they were all very nice goals scored by the rag's.
