Do we know the history of NHL playoff overtime penalty shots?
I'm sure game's have been ended on them before, but I honestly can't remember many.

I wonder a series has ever been ended on before?

My guess is that officials really try as hard as they can to not call a penalty shot in overtime of a playoff game.

Clearly at play last night as that was text book.

We could have had Cujo but I think we ended up with the better of all that.
It's still frustrating that they have 3 elite goalies in a row and while we've had the best of them all, we've had a whole lot shit other than him.

Other than 3 years of Cory before he kicked the bucket at only 30 years old and with pretty low mileage for 30 years old.

We've had other good goalies, who weren't really that good of goalies while they were here. Kirk McLean and Sean Burke being thetwo biggest names.

McLean was really young when he was here and didn't get much of a chance. Burke was a way better goalie later on in his career (some guy that's a goalie coach for the Rangers had a lot to do with that) than the stand-up version we had here.

no....you're always gunna be down 1 man short. What do you mean took himself away from the most dangerous part of the ice? Was the other d-man supposed to go pressure Tkachuk then? Were they supposed to have 2 guys in the slot? Like I said, that's more of a passive pk strategy, which they don't use. The hatred against Trouba is blinding you guys.

I'd argue it's on him that he didn't win that puck battle more than him "taking himself out of position", also on the other guy for not reacting to the pass fast enough.
he charged over from the crease to the mid boards in order to throw a pointless hit after the puck had already been passed, leaving a 2 on 1 down low. very dumb. i doubt very much the rangers pk is taught to do that lol. boneheaded play from a guy who routinely makes boneheaded plays, there's no excusing it.

Did he at the very least go in with a high or extended elbow?!?

Because there's 82 games and 31 different opponents. Nobody is scheming on how to beat a specific opponent on a given night, there just isn't time to do that.
A defenceman pressuring the wings is not an incredibly difficult concept. heck I'd think that would be one of those in game adjustments everyone is always clamoring for.

Think it's more about execution.

As a Whalers fan Burkie was a childhood hero. He would singlehandedly keep those horrifically bad Whalers teams in games and IMO is historically underrated because much of his career was spent on those bad Whalers/Canes teams.

And you mentioned OT Playoff Penalty Shots: The most recent one I can think of was game 5 between The Isles and Panthers in 20016. It was awarded because an Isles player covered the puck with his hand in the crease but Thomas Greiss saved it and the Isles won on an Alan Quine goal in double OT.

Chuck's brother needs to call Pickard out of the bullpen. Skinner is already looking shaky.

And he's only even faced one shot.
