By the way, if Edmonton loses this series and maybe even if they lose in the cup finals? They've just entered the chat looking for a new goalie.
I really think if they lose this series the new GM is going to come in there and burn all things goaltending down the same way Fitz did at the traded deadline this year.
I'm talking a Campbell buyout (that was probably gonna happen anyway, barring dumping him on somebody) and two playoffs in a row like this are gonna get Skinner EXILED out of town. They'll dump him on whoever and use someone like Pickard (league minimum guy) as their backup. Skinner is cheap enough, but they're gonna wanna exterminate him from the locker room after a potential loss here.

Skinner is that problem with you car that you think went away and made you think you fixed it. You put a band aid on it and you got another week out of it with no problems.

Skinner is their Vitek, they have an amazing group of skaters but just keep running it back with him. Granted, EVERYONE, including Vitek, knew he was our stopgap.

So, I don't think the Oilers are in trouble yet. I give them a better chance of winning their series right now than Florida winning the other series in the East.
But I don't think I can see Skinner winning TWO more rounds. I have more confidence in Pickard, maybe even Jack Campbell pushing this team across the finish line.
They literally could games 7-6 against the Rangers in a hypothetical SCF matchup, after Barclay Goodrow shoots one off Skinner's ass from behind the net.
That's kind of how they lost tonight's game....

How would Dallas get crushed by the Rangers who haven’t crushed anyone since the Capitals?
Oettinger is inconsistent when I watch him. Makes some tremendous saves and gives up a softie anyway. I would take him in a heartbeat in NJ even with the highs and lows.

As someone who has really been vocally not a huge fan of Oettinger. He's been overrated in his career, he's certainly living up to how good people have said he is during these playoffs though.
He would be the best goalie the Rangers played these playoffs.
Lindgren - 30 years old, mostly career minor leaguer in only his second full NHL season.
Andersen - 34 year old washed up has been being held together by duct tape.
Bobrovsky - 35 year old legacy player that's seen much better days.
Skinner - BUM
Oettinger is by far the best goalie the Rangers will have faced these playoffs. The only better goalie I think they could have faced by now is if Florida somehow lost to Boston and they got Swayman.

And if you want me to rip on players that aren't the goalie on Edmonton, Nurse and Ceci? Nurse is really not all that good and is WAAAYYYYYYYY overpaid,
Ceci? I know he was bad like 8 years ago. I know he was bad 3 or 4 years ago. I was baffled at why Edmonton gave him what they gave him. I'm pretty sure he's probably still bad now? Maybe even that much worse than he was 3, 4, 8 years ago?
I think he went to Pittsburgh and played well there, much like Gudbranson did for a little while there, which fooled people into thinking Gudbranson had been rehabbed and turned a corner. That in fact was not true. I don't think it was with Ceci either.

I don’t think I can see them winning the cup with Skinner though. At least not this year. He needs a lot of help before he can backstop a team to a cup. I don’t think he’ll get another opportunity there if they don’t win this year.
Nurse/Ceci is also a detriment. They both get a lot of ice time and are anchors. That about 450 pounds of deadweight.
They have to seriously consider using another goalie next game. Because Skinner is only gonna royally screw them again these playoffs at some point.
Ullmark to the Oilers as a one year rental like Kuemper to the Avalanche makes a lot of sense if this isn’t their year.

Dallas, much like Florida, just has that well rounded roster. Every line, every pairing plays relentless hockey every shift

The game winner tonight will probably wind up being the softy of the conference finals.
Both conference finals.
Anything less than a cup win and I see Skinner being exiled from Edmonton after his two playoff years there.
