Honestly, we've been what Ottawa was ''Supposed'' to be this year.

Not that Ottawa was supposed to be as good as we've started, but they were supposed to be in the playoff race the entire year.

Buffalo has probably been more like what Ottawa was supposed to be this year. At least to this point they have.

You can't trust anything Dorion does. Maybe Ryan Reynolds will oust him lol.

I didn't even bother turning on the Ducks/Sharks to see their second shootout in the last 5 nights, both in San Jose.

It's still early, but the decline definitely seems to be back on again for Bob.

Oh, by the way, one more goalie note I need to make

I'm not saying I said that Forsberg overachieved last year and wasn't gonna be that good again this year and the 3 year deal was way too trigger happy on Dorion's part.

Why did the Panthers hire Paul Maurice again? Of all the coaches you hire one of the biggest retreads you can get.

And not even like one of the constant retreads of the last 14-15 years (Gallant, DeBoer, McLellan, AV, Julien, although the last two are a little longer than 15 years) but one of the biggest retreads of the last closer to 30 years than anything? Hope they didn't want Laviolette, as he'll likely be available soon.

Did they have Dave Tippett on their short list too?

I used to like Paul Maurice and thought he was a decent, if not good head coach, but I have no idea why you would rush to hire him after the best season in the history of your franchise.

It was such an odd hire

Thank god they did hire Maurice

In fairness to him, they have no blue line right now. Gave up Weegar in the Tkachuk trade and Ekblad is hurt

Maurice is a "proven" coach and I'm guessing Florida thought they needed that since they're trying to win now. Old boys club mentality.

And Bob is just no good.

He’s been an absolute anchor and bust in Florida, outside of last year. It’s early but it’s looking like an outlier and that the decline is real and back on.

I can’t shred Zito for that, as that was Tallon.

I think we all knew Bob would have potentially the worst goalie contract in the league after Price, if not even worse. At this point it’s definitely worse, as Price is on LTIR and not healthy enough to even get out there and stink up the joint.

Bobrovsky getting a stupid contract was something every fan in hockey could see coming.

7 penguins losses in a row JESUS

I’ve been meming a little bit but they might ACTUALLY be cooked (finally)
Hopefully Washington too.

Would love nothing more than both of them being home by the second week of April.

Add in stupid f***in overrated Nashville out west.

Not that I think fans overrate Nashville. They know what’s up. The media seems to overrate them though.

Like I said, they’re the best mediocre team in the league. Just a contender of several years ago (along with Washington and Pittsburgh) who are just living out the end of their playoff making cycle.

Does Edmonton (or anybody) hire Poile in the off-season after/if they fire Holland? Or maybe the Islanders if Lou is done/retires? Or does he just take his “Promotion” from Nashville and go upstairs? Or does he maybe announce his own retirement like Doug Wilson did? Which was only for health reasons for him. How about Toronto if Dubas is gone? I definitely can’t see that.

Florida can’t finish for shit. I thought the coach hits was a bit of a head scratcher for sure but they’re the worst shooting team in the league (7.8%!) and yet the Panthers are still 19th with 3.08 GF/G.

In comparison, the Blues are 31st with 7.9% Shooting% and are 32nd with 2.33 GF/G.

That’s the difference between a team that generates a lot of offense but can’t hit the broad side of the barn vs a team that more rode it’s hot shooting hand last season. (Though losing Montgomery was presumably a big blow for St Louis.)

It also looks like Bob is back to being Bob of the last 2-3 years before last season. Still early, but it's looking like last season was just more of an ''On'' year for him than the two years prior being ''Off'' years.

And his last year in Columbus wasn't all that great. He had a very late season surge (just like Cory Schneider did that year lol) and he had 7 shutouts in his last 23 starts that year to really bump up his play. He was a .901% for the season and 2 shutouts after 39 games on February 9th of 2019. He wound up finishing with a .913% after 62 games and 9 shutouts.

I clearly remember this as it was happening and the talk of ''Will Bob get more than Price?'' was becoming very hot for the pending UFA Bobrovsky.

His GSAx was also -2.84 that year, despite a +2.39 GSAA.

Conclusion is to not expect 21-22 Bob to be 22-23 Bob. It's probably safer to expect the 2019-2021 version again for this year. Same thing goes for Jonathan Quick. Goalies don't bounce back permanently after multiple poor seasons at that age. 21-22 was clearly an up year for Quick after 3 consecutive lousy decline years.

Mike Smith did put together 2 good years in a row at 39-40 after 2 bad seasons in a row, but both seasons he played a bit more limited due to a shortened season the first year and injured season last year. Not to mention he had a very 2019 Columbus Bobrovsky end to last year after the coaching change, where he was surging the last couple of months of the season.

All in all, goaltending didn't really make Florida a good team last year, they still would have made the playoffs with Bobrovsky playing as poorly as he did the several seasons before, but they definitely wouldn't have won the presidents trophy.
