Some vintage Martin Jones on display in Seattle just for you @Bleedred
That second goal was terrible. Probably a softy of the night candidate. I’m all caught up on every goal in real time, up to the Marner goal in the Leafs/Sharks game a minute ago.

The first two goals on Demko were also bad. I mean, that first one might have deflected a bit but that was still horrific. Fitting after the trade proposal for him.

That wraparound goal on Stalock…… another awful one from tonight.

Why is Stalock a full time NHL again? Ummm, why? That’s definitely a tanking move.

The second one on Jones was funny because the Vancouver announcers thought there was some explanation (a screen, deflection) and then finally they were just like “I guess he saw it” lol. They liked the pass to Mikheyev a lot.

Goalscoring is not going down this season lol, all these goaltending clinics tonight… Quick is getting lit up whenever the Jets get to him.

Pucks just don’t hit Quick anymore for whatever reason. They really haven’t for years, with last year being the exception.

Cal Petersen, who I thought was going to be good has been absolute junk. Like unplayable. And he’s on an absolutely terrible contract for what he is. It was way too premature of a deal for Rob Blake.

lot of money, in advance, for a guy with like 50 good nhl starts lol

started playing like dogshit the minute that extension was locked in, too
He’s the most expensive nobody goalie in the NHL.

If you didn’t know any better you might think he’s only signed for $2 or $3 million a year. $5 million is way too much for him and it was even before he started his recent poor play.

And we’re only right now in year one of that contract. He was extended a year in advance and last year was on his previous contract.

Barry Melrose looks so terrible.

Not that he ever looked good, but he almost looks like there’s something wrong with him. He didn’t look nearly this bad a few years ago. I don’t even remember him looking this bad last season.

I don’t know if someone stole his wallet or what, but he’s looking pretty decrepit these days.

I hate Washington, probably more than I should.

The three straight (or at least three straight playoff years, they missed one year in the middle of that) playoff chokejobs to the Rangers (especially that last one in 2015) really just ugghhhheeheheheheheh. They've skeeved me out ever since.

And I'm tired of watching them be an auto first round loss since the cup win. And before the cup win they were an auto loss in the second round for 3 years in a row and literally to either the Rangers or Penguins for 5 playoffs in a row.

I'm rooting for Ovechkin to break the streak, but he's got his cup. No need for me to root for them any further. I'd like to see them have a 2010's Devils-like demise (I'd like to see if for the Pens too) where everyone got too old and there was nothing left in the way of younger, good players.

Ovechkin can be like Marty during those years. Just chasing/padding records while the team goes home early every April.

What's going on with Shesterkin, numbers are mortal this year

He's been more than fine this year, just not crazy good like last year to this point. It's hard to maintain a .930% over 100 games in the league.

He's been more than fine, the Rangers just aren't winning as much to this point. It also might have something to do with the fact that he's been more than fine and not league MVP caliber.

Guy wasn’t putting up another .935 season
Likely not, as it's pretty near impossible, especially in this higher scoring/lower save percentage era of the last several seasons.

He still is a career .928% over his first 105 games in the league.

1993-2001 Hasek might be able to consistently have .935% seasons in the NHL if you were able to transport him into this current NHL, but that's probably about it.

I still don't think people appreciate how good he was last year. I think it was the single best year of goaltending by a single goaltender ever.
I think the stats posters do. There was thread from last year on the main board that I remember. The topic was name the best player on a bad team and a Ranger fan responded Shesty. The OP said the poster missed his point. The Ranger fan responded the Rangers are a bad team by any statistical measure other than goaltending. He was exactly right. It was borderline miracle the Rangers advanced as far as they did last year. Kreider's career year by a mile helped as well.
