Super early but so far the usual teams that many fans expected to take steps back have continued their winning ways - Boston, Pitt, Washington although the caps are just .500
Too soon to say the flyers were underestimated a bit?
Let’s see how long they can play at a fever pitch. They will get tired and guys will get hurt from all the hitting and shot blocking.

Flyers ahead of TB in the third period in Tampa.
I think Tampa is gonna have a rough season. Too many people just assuming they can withstand the loss of Coleman, McDonough, Palat, etc plus a ridiculous amount of games played in a short period of time over the last three years.

Yes. This happens every year with a bad team getting off to a strong start and then fading away to the basement as the season wears on.

I think so.

The Flyers started out 4-1-1 last year. We saw how long that lasted. They were 6-2-2 at one point, 7-3-2, 8-4-2 and that was the end of them.

The Devils started out pretty similarly. We were 3-1-0. We were 4-2-0, 7-3-2 and that was the end of that. We all know what happened there.

Most of the teams expected to be really bad have at least one win. After tonight there’s now no more winless teams in the East. Everybody has at least one win in the conference.

Montreal is 2-2-0

Chicago is 1-2-0

Arizona is 1-2-0

The only two teams without a win are the 0-3-0 Wild and the league worst 0-5-0 Sharks who have exactly 0 points through 5 games.

I know I’ve maintained that the Sharks will be a bad team and really be in the mix for las place, but might fall just short to either one of or both Chicago and Arizona. I completely wrote them off from any playoff chance, which I didn’t even do for Seattle in that shitty division.

I’m really getting super annoyed at this forum’s inability to allow me to quote a poster and delete part of their post and only quote what I want to reply to. And then it quotes my reply in the original quoted posters post. It’s f***ing stupid and make me feel slightly violent.

Anyway, I think Tampa won’t make the cup finals this year. They’ll be a playoff team if I had to guess, but fourth straight cup finals appearance I think not.

I thought they wouldn’t make it for a third straight finals appearance last year, but I’m feeling much more confident about that this year.

I think they can get back on it and be in the mix again next year, but they’re due for either a first round exit or at the very least an exit before the cup finals.

See the Lightning more like the New England Patriots in football. Early in the season you can catch them as they make changes, experiment and figure things out.

By the end of the year they are usually competing for the championship.

Admittedly, a player like McDonagh is big shoes to fill bit they will find a way - or acquire someone.

Even the most optimistic Flyers fan should admit they have no business being 4-0.

The scary part with the Flyers is they are winning without Couturier, Atkinson and Ristolainen.

Can't help thinking that Ristolainen under Torts and playing with a guy like DeAngelo in the locker room is going to be a lot better than the guy who played for Ralph Krueger or Mike Yeo and with Jack Eichel.

Tampa will be in trouble this season, they have almost no depth anymore, they are slower, no prospects to call up.

Pretty much the same thing they say about New England - yet the names change and the team continues winning.

In most sports there are only a handful of franchises committed to pursuing championships.

In hockey Tampa Bay has proven to be in that category.

They don’t make it easy, but it is possible. Though, I’m not actually sure how I did this. (I went to the non wysiwyg editor option and hit some button.)

Yes you're right, they have great owner who spends on staff and players in small market. Last 8 years, they were in 4 finals, 6 conference finals, one 1st round exit and once they missed playoffs. Thats a fantastic run they had and I'm sure they could do it again. But assets are thin, no 1st in 23 and 24.

Coaching's a bit more important and impactful in football than hockey though granted Cooper's as good as it gets in the NHL maybe this side of Mike Sullivan and/or Trotz. Tampa still has the coach, a great goalie (which also helps) and a lot of top-end talent but all those games take a toll on you - 100 plus a year.

I'm in no way surprised that the Flyers have scored 2 goals on 12 shots, as Bob is absolutely no-count and sucks.

I am very surprised that the Panthers can't score more than 2 goals on 25 shots against Sandstrom, as both goals they scored on him were weak goals, especially the second goal.

this division is already a nightmare and now they decide to actually have a pulse, go back to 3 divisions
The Flyers would still be in our division anyway if they went back to the old divisions, as would the Rangers, Pens and Islanders.

The Capitals, Blue Jackets and Canes would all be gone though.

I think some of you are really jumping the gun on the Flyers. They started out last season pretty hot (as did we), granted not as hot as this season.

And they almost definitely won't finish as bad as last year.

I still think they start to break down as the season wears on. At some point they will start getting broken things from blocking shots and guys will have wear and tear injuries from constant hitting.

ANOTHER WEAK ONE on Sandstrom.

He's so bad, he's for the AHL. He looked AWFUL last year too, but escaped with an above league average save percentage.

That's what happens when you have no cap space. You gotta use someone like this as a backup.

Softy of the week there. Sandström with some Blackwood-oo magic in his armpit
Maybe softy of week 2.

The goal Gustavsson of Minnesota allowed the other night against Colorado was a really pathetic one.
