LOL at Kevin Hayes running things on a 4-3 PP.

Edit: at least he’s not worthless on the shootout!

Big 2 pts for Philly!

I only counted one goal as stoppable on Gibson out of these 5.

But he gets screened way too much. He's been beaten on about 3 screens in this game and plenty other games.

And that tells me he's not doing good enough battle through screens. If you can get several bodies in front of him, he's just content to pass it off as he's screened and there ain't a damn thing he can or wants to do about it.

That second goal on Jones looked like a terrible rebound, but it hit his mask and that's why a routine shot turned into a shitty rebound. It didn't come off his glove, just off his masked.

I can't nail him on that one or any of the three.

There's 6

Gibson is toast

I feel bad for him at this point.

It's not all his fault, he has faced close to 50 shots tonight, but I don't know why anyone that's a Ducks fan or employee would feel slighted taking ''Just'' MacKenzie Blackwood for him.

That's highway robbery for the Ducks to be able to cap dump John Gibson for MacKenzie Blackwood. They're over there acting like they're the ones getting screwed. Whoever takes the last 5 years of that albatross is who's getting screwed.

Reputations go a LONG way to color people’s perceptions

That contract either ends up bought out or LTIR in a few years. And then the Ducks fans wish they were able to get some dumb sucker to take the rest of the his deal for some AHL scrub goalie. Not that I even think it's an option. Everybody knows behind the scenes that it's an albatross and not worth the risk in picking him up.

He's still kind of young, not even 29 yet, but with how many injuries he had even early in his career, he could be mortally wounded. I mean his career could be mortally wounded.

Yup, just ask Tomas Tatar who got paid 9M$ for 2 years.
Tatar was a 60-ish point player just two years. Actually 61 points in 68 games in 19-20. Only a year removed at the time he got that deal. And 30 points in 50 games last year, which is 49 point pace in 82 games. He was also a perennial 20 goal guy up until last year’s 50 game season (but paced for just 16 last year), while Gibson has been one of the worst players at his position for 3 years now. The only guys that have been worse than Gibson during that time are either backups or guys who have since washed out of the league.

That would be like Tatar still having this 60 point/20 goal reputation by the time this contract expires in 2023. Not even close to comparable at the moment.

Tatar got his deal because he leached off Danault and Gallagher, who were extremely efficient for the Habs. He stole 9M$ from us and should thank both of his ex linemates for that.

Gibson is definitely not the answer for our goaltending issues, just like Tatar wasn’t the answer for our lack of depth. Both players are god awful but the good news is that we’ll move on from our garbage player, at the latest, 14 months from now whereas Anaheim will have that headache for 5 more years.

Gibson has also been worse than the combined Ducks save percentage in 2 of the last 3 years.

Without tonight’s game taken into account, Ducks team save percentage was .909%, Gibson was .905%. Stolarz is a .921% this year, but has only played 22 games. Would have sustain that .921% playing as many games as Gibson? I highly doubt it. Would he still be outplaying Gibson if he played as many games as Gibson has? I’m pretty sure he would.

20-21 Ducks team save percentage was .901%, Gibson was a .903%. Stolarz was a .926% there, but only played 8 games and started only 7.

Ryan Miller was an .882% there last year in 16 games and 14 starts, but he was FORTY years old.

19-20 Ducks team save percentage was .905%, Gibson was a .904%. 39 year old Ryan Miller managed to have a .907%, albeit with approximately 30 games played. Sometimes you gotta account for games played, especially when the backup plays very sparingly. Like Corey Schwab having a .930% to Marty’s 914%, but Schwab hardly played at all. Miller still wound up playing 30% Or so of the games those years. And he was old and Gibson was performing worse. You just can’t find a way around Gibson not being bad nor on the decline right now.

I don’t understand why you have it out for Tatar. He’s nothing close to special at this point, but he’s not terrible yet. He could be by next year though.

And the fact this his contract expires next year and not in 2027 also means he’s nowhere near an albatross.

Who talked about albatros? I replied to a comment that said players get paid based on passed reputation… just like we did with Tatar. He was horrible in his last stretch run with the Habs and we basically bought damaged goods off of this perceived notion that his stats were good years ago and we’re left holding the bag for that mistake today.

Like I said, at worst, he’s out of here in 14 months. That’s the only positive I can take away from him being on our roster.

It’s fun to just make things up.

Tatar away from Danault in nearly 700 minutes with MTL had a 56 CF%, 57 xGF%, 59 HDCF%. You “watched the games” though.

Respond without saying pie chart or mentioning him getting scratched in the playoffs.

He sucks, I don’t give a shit what your #’s say and I’ll bet you anything you want he’ll be on a PTO once his is deal runs out because I don’t know why anyone would sign him to play in their top #6 and he’s useless in a bottom #6 role. His only luck is to find a team who’s knee deep in analytics.

Both things you want to ignore are the exact reasons why he’s a marginal player, at best, with negative value on the market.

But keep on looking at stats to paint a picture that isn’t there because that’s how you analyze the game. All these talks about us signing a 1st line player was hilarious and still is. The #’s you pulled up are probably why Fitz was fooled in signing a "1st line player" and I’m sure he’ll be more cautious when our geeks come up with recommendations in the future, so I guess we can thank Tatar’s awful play for that.

Fact = Tatar has negative value on the market.

Fact = your pretty stats fooled our GM that we were getting a "1st line player”.

Fact = Tatar isn’t good enough to play in a top #6 role and not useful enough to play in a bottom #6 role.

Fact = Getting your diploma at the John Chayka University is a bad look

Matthews with his 4th hat-trick of the season and 54 goals. Not sure if he'll win the Hart, but he should definitely be considered for the Ted Lindsay.

He’s got 17 in his last 13 lol. With Igor’s recent slide it isn’t even a contest for me. It’s Matthews. He’s the best player in the world for me right now
