Rangers tied 1-1 after 1 to the Sens. They dominated that period. xG of 1.63-0.28 at 5v5 and Corsi of 28-5. AS that's 1.79-0.28 and 31-5. They have carried play incredibly well since the TDL. 5th best CF%. 3rd best xGF%. They could potentially be a problem in the playoffs.

Looking like they'll steamroll the Pens in R1.

If it's Carolina in R2 that'll be a very very interesting matchup. That's a battle of the 2 best goalies in the league this year. 2 very strong 5v5 teams (assuming Rangers keep up their recent play which I think they do). One with the best PK in the league and 9th best PP. The other with the 2nd best PP in the league and 9th best PK.

Edit: Their period 1 xG is really funny. 8 guys at 100% with the 2nd worst still being at 60.27%. Then there's Laf as the worst with a 5.43% lol

If those 2 were able to start producing they’d be like borderline unbeatable. I want to see a Laf-Chytil-Kakko 3rd line. They have the support to shelter them a f*** ton as well

I wonder what the Isles do with Varlamov next year.
I bet they’ll keep him, unless he decides to waive to go somewhere else. I think it was confirmed he wouldn’t waive to go to Edmonton. I’m not sure why he wouldn’t though? As much as they have their faults, they could get hot with the right goalie.

Just seeing Koskinen’s record (it’s REALLY good) and then looking at his save percentage, it’s fairly obvious that team could be much better with a good goalie and should have won more games this year with better goalies. Especially with how good Koskinen’s record is while providing not much of value in net.

I’m not completely sold on Varlamov though. Sometimes I question if the Islanders make him look better and if he could go literally to pretty much 28 or 30 other teams and struggle to play better than league average.

For some reason I thought for the longest time that Varlamov got a 5 year deal and not a 4 year deal. I think I only just realized sometime this year or just before this year that there were only 2 years left (including this year) and not 3 years left.

I thought initially it was a 5 year deal and thought it had real potential to be Bobrovsky/Price lite as far as goalie contracts go.

I think Nirvana in both the goal song and goal announcements in Seattle is really cool, but the “Lets go Kraken!” chants are so cringy.

And yes, it was super cringy when the Devils did it in 2013 or whatever year that was. I think it was the first post RR2 year.

That is my biggest fear. Those clowns get going eventually. Imagine those clowns plus Kratzov and if Anderson did not bust... and they kept Buch like they should have....
I dont get where the hell they got all these picks and what years and rounds they got them from. It seems insane how many they have and it feels like they have about 7 young dmen too coming up. Ludqvist Schenider Gauthier Jones. Like piss off. SO sickning that a norris winner and perhaps the best LW in the game falls in their laps. Eat shit .

I'm think I'm once again taking last year's stance of not really being very high on any Pittsburgh, Washington or Boston as real contenders this year.

And Washington and Boston are both really just doing puzzling things as far as the goaltending decisions go.

I do think that those teams will probably realize before the playoffs (if not pretty soon) that Samsonov and Ullmark are not their best options.

Pens are losing in R1 to either the Canes or Rangers. Caps are losing to the Panthers. I can see Boston winning R1 against any of the Leafs, Canes, or Rangers.

TB could do TB things but I also can easily see them losing R1. In the interesting stat thread on the mainboard someone posted that TB only has 3 regulation wins over East playoff teams this year and the last one came on 12/9. In regulation they're 3-11 with a -23 goal differential. We'll see how it goes but I remember saying before the year that I didn't think they'd be the same team due to losing their entire 2nd line. Looks like I could be right.

Two bad goals on Ullmark. When does the Swayman benching/Swayman to backup end?

I don’t know, you’re the resident goalie guy lol. Swayman is a stud at times but lacked consistency. Ullmark is consistently sort of ok, behind that defense. *shrug* Also, f*** Boston (unless they play the Rangers and then GO BRUINS!)

Wake me up when Hall ever scores a big goal again. Lol. Dude, just one.

This is what helps me sleep at night with them, they need those guys to produce on their ELC’s or that roster is gonna be in rough shape in a few years with the pay raises they’ll get. They’ve looked awesome post deadline though as a team, they’ll be a tough out this spring for sure as much as we despise them.

That's fair.

It took me quite a bit to think about if I'd rank Boston or Pittsburgh the first of those 3, with Washington being a clear number 3 to those teams.

I think I gave the Pens the edge because of Mike Sullivan, honestly.

Jarry has had a great season, but has been sliding a bit recently and has allowed some poor goals lately. He was horrible yesterday, but so was Samsonov, but got to face 11 fewer shots than Jarry did.

Kakko needs a deal next season, I’m very curious to see what they pay him.

Well they're going to get them on potentially discounted contracts on their 2nd deals if they break out after their ELCs but you also have to imagine those will be short term anyway so they'd be getting big contracts shortly after.

I said after the TDL that they did a great time to improve their depth and they could be a force. Unfortunately looks like I was right. I honestly think they have a legitimate claim as the best team in the East. I think I’d probably still have to give it to the Panthers for now. After that though I think it's between the Rangers and Canes. They're pretty similar teams but I like the Rangers high end firepower more so I'd put them ahead. Leafs also shoot up the list and could challenge the Panthers and Rangers if Campbell returns to his earlier form.
