If Blashill is back next year then I seriously think you really to ask ''Is Steve Yzerman really as good of a GM as he credit for?''.

He didn't even hire this f***in idiot. He was in the Stanley Cup Finals with Tampa back when this guy got hired to his current post.

11-2 is ridiculous, like a baseball score.

I'm amazed that Dumoulin managed to be a +5 without scoring any points. You would think he would have picked up an assist by accident being on the ice for that many goals, but somehow he didn't.

The feeling I get from Sabres fans is similar to ours: optimism and a feeling that the bad times are ending.

Which might not be the feeling they should have. I mean they're still only 23rd in 5v5 CF% (we're 12th), 30th in xGF% (we're 13th), 24th in SCF% (we're 10th), 27th in HDCF% (we're 2nd). AS that's 24th to 11th, 31st to 14th, 27th to 9th, 30th to 4th. They've got some good pieces but nothing that I'd say is transformative and will really help propel them.

There's a lot to be happy about if I'm a Sabres fan. The simple fact that they moved on from Eichel is a positive and they got a good package for a guy who was sinking that franchise more than anything else. They also robbed the Flyers in the Ristolainen trade and have 3 1st round picks this year.

They do however need a goaltender and find a way to move or clear the contract of Jeff Skinner. They'll have a nice prospect pool and some cap space to work with in the next couple of years. It's not ideal but at least they're moving in the right direction, which wasn't the case at all for close to a decade+.

That was the only goal I nailed Lankinen on last night.

He WAAYYYYYY overplayed it.

I don't even have him down for a high number of goals stoppable this year, but you can see his loses his net A LOT. And a lot of those goals where he loses his net are goals I don't particularly count stoppable all the time, but you can see why he's having a TERRIBLE Jon Gillies-like season this year.

Gillies problem is he's very leaky and his glove hand is TERRIBLE, he's really BAD on dead angles and all of that really shows up in my stoppable goal tallies.

Ya Gilles is ummmm "lacking" in several aspects of good goaltending . He plays small while he is like 8'19" , loses his net often , overplays and is to aggressive when he should not be yet is too far in his net when he should be a little more aggressive. His game is not calm at all and looks like he is never really set or square to the shooter . His glove hand is one of the worst I have ever seen. He takes wild stabs at the puck way too many times instead of moving his glove to where the shot is going . He cannot take away enough of the ice when he goes down , lots of times there are massive gaps and spaces when he goes into the butterfly.
You would think that he could or rather should be at least decent ( average or slightly below average ) if he could just be technically more sound , he is so big that if he just slides around in the butterfly and stays square to the play/ shooter , the puck would hit him more so than when he is trying to make saves lol. I do not get how he can get beat high so often while he is big as he is... Its like he is skilled at finding a way to dodge the puck lol .

Nichushkin is having a game vs. Flames . Currently 2-1 Avs and Nuke has both Avs goals. He is around the puck constantly ame either creates chances or creates havoc for the Flames defenders. He is a handful for sure. Keumper is playing excellent . Why hadn’t we talked about him more as a option for us in net next year? Is it because he is on a deadly good team that he may just be a product of their D / great team ? He has al,ost identical numbers to Markstrom . Close to a .920 sv%
If there was any doubt about wanting Nuke as a UFA , that is gone. The guy is exactly what we could use.
Nuke on the ice in the last minute holding down the lead. Was on the PP and Pk plus on the ice with a minute left to close out the game. Ya …I want to sign him in a big way.

Koskanin is such a weird goalie. He is playing lights out right now vs. Kings.
He makes incredible saves and has one or two good games then will play like complete garbage and let in everything that’s not shot directly at him.
I don’t get how he is so hot and cold.

What an absolutely horrendous "play" by Bertuzzi in OT there to hand the Rangers a 2-1 which Copp buried for the win. The Wings are putrid.

Watching Oilers / Kings . I still hate Quick. He is an arrogant bugger. That and I hate his style of goaltending.
I remember him being interviewed and he was asked about his good mobility and how it’s is a little unorthodox / unique. Reporter asked how he(Quick) would tell or teach kids how to play goal like he does. Quick said “ I would tell them to try something else because what I do is very hard and not many people can move like me”.
Dick.

At this point it also hasn’t been beneficial to his game aging well either.

There’s so many goals he allows that don’t look stoppable (and I don’t give him stoppable goals on them) but they kind of are because he’s always flopping, he’s always out of position. He spends a lot of the games on his back and on his ass. Takes himself out of the play.

He’s kind of always done those things, but they also worked for him for about a decade.

@Bleedred can't wait for you to see the softy by Georgiev just now....my goodness.
Which one? The first three were all poor goals on him, but the first two were both softy of the night caliber, maybe even softy or the week/month caliber. That Rasmussen goal was definitely a softy of the month type of goal.

And it’s beyond insulting that Keith Jones commentary on that Rasmussen goal refers to Georgiev as an “Outstanding netminder”.

I mean f***in seriously? Yeah, he’s an outstanding netminder when you compare him to the MILLIONS of people at every single level and expertise of goaltending across the entire world. When it comes to NHL goaltending he’s about as mediocre as it gets.

This is why I’ve developed this reputation for hating goalies around the league. Because I’m not a f***ing puppet that’s gonna get on TV or on my YouTube channel/blog/whatever and needlessly (and falsely) point out that Georgiev is an outstanding netminder.

It’s not just him though. One particularly horrible example of this was when Kevin Weekes was hyping how good Mike f***in Condon (he was the answer to the trivia in the last game we had the other night) was. Yeah, a guy that had one dead average season in between a couple of really terrible ones. I don’t even think he played one single pro game at any level after his 30th birthday.

This is why I get so defensive whenever somebody hypes up some mediocre goalie like Vejmelka and Georgiev himself. Or having to be told for a few years by the media that Martin Jones is an elite goalie.

All I keep thinking about is some kid that’s new to hockey watching tonight’s game and telling other kids at school who are not new to hockey that he heard Georgiev is an “outstanding netminder”.

This is a little bit of a sidetrack, but back in the 90s I felt the same exact way about Bill Ranford. His entire reputation was based around his Conn Smythe playoffs in 1990, and he did jack shit after that. Every year I had to read hockey publications saying how he was one of the top 3 goalies in the NHL, yet at his best he looked average to me. Hardly elite material.
