Buffalo Bills Onto Week 3 at Miami

Pre-season hype means nothing when reality sets in after a few regular season weeks.
They play the final game in February, not Sept. The trophy isn't awarded in August after the final preseason game.
I'm confident the Bills will be prepared for their 14 NFL regular season teams and whomever they face in the playoffs.
IMO, their greatest opponent this season will be themselves, both mentally (ego) and physically (injuries).
There will be errors this season, by both players and coaches. There will be injuries this season.
The fact they are still on the rise and truly haven't proven they are as good a team as they believe they can be gives me hope they will persevere and not self-destruct.

I can’t believe bills football starts in just over 24 hours! I’m so excited!
I’m also already starting to feel the nerves a bit when I think about the game.

I keep telling myself every season “I’m not going to get nervous about games this year. I’m just going to enjoy them!” and then every season I get those butterflies in my stomach before and during games. Close games are the worst. They are not always a fun experience for me. 😂

Why can’t I just enjoy the games like I did when I was younger? I am a very rational person. I know it’s just a stupid game that has no real effect on my life. Yet I still get nervous… 🤷‍♂️

Probably a bit of an overpay from a talent perspective, but you can’t let your star QBs best friend (who is also a competent starter) leave. Hopefully they’re using some of their surplus space this year to get ahead of future cap spending difficulties. Glad to have one less spot to worry about next year.

The 0720 start Friday morning will be rough as I have country western night with a charity raffle. I can watch tape delay but that means staying off social media as friends and family will post nonstop about it. Shame it's not a Monday night game as then I could relax, watch the game while eating the big breakfast special, then follow it up with a $15 4-hands massage across the street

The other nice benefit is that there’s a ton of TEs on the market next year. And while on one hand you could say “this shouldn’t have been a priority, tons of replacement options,” doing it this way is nice because they got to set the market instead of react to it.

This is kind of a Tage like move in a way. What if he scores nine touchdowns again?

Will he? Probably not. But is he a weapon capable of doing it? Yes. So let’s sign him for that.

Also let’s all remember that NFL contracts are never what the sticker shock says it is when we see it at first. Von Miller isn’t making 120 million dollars. Josh Allen is already the seventh highest paid QB and his contract hasn’t even actually started yet.

Agree with this. I like that they are staying the course for the most part & rewarding their guys.

I won't like the contract when i see the numbers though.

I have no idea how Edmunds & Oliver fit without crippling the team somewhere else... Never mind Poyer as well.

The price of TEs is climbing drastically. Good to sign him now. He’s a very good receiver and an excellent blocker. Very important to our offense and glad I don’t have to worry about losing him. Great news!

I can see where you make the TT comparison.

But this Knox extension would be akin to offering TT his deal if we had a bunch of other players on tbe Sabres making even more long term money. Not the smallest long term payroll in the league as is the case in reality.

Oliver is the easy one because the fifth year option already allocates a giant chunk of money on next years cap. An extension will have the eye popping number…and probably lower the cap hit because of how NFL contracts are magic

You have to factor in that one league is wildly successful and the top end of position salaries rise and rise with a rising cap And the other is a joke where signing a 38 goal scoring young player to the same contract Vanek got 15 years ago is seen as crazy. Money isn’t real in the NFL.

IMO this is Poyer's last year here unless he signs a super team friendly extension.

Unless he takes a massive leap, which could happen, paying Edmunds what I'd guess he's looking for ($15M+) would strike me as a huge mistake, since, as you said, they'd be crippling themselves and/or forced to trade/cut Milano to balance the books a bit

The fifth year option wasn't a saving factor for Edmunds getting extended though (i said as soon as Milano was extended that i thought Edmunds would be gone long term).

And the fifth year option won't be a massive cap saver in the sense that top IDL salaries are stupidly high thanls in large part to Aaron Donald. Plus you still have to absorb the money somewhere along the line. You can't keep handing out multiple big extensions year after year unless the cap is going up exponentially. At some point Beane is going to be making tough decisions on 'his' guys.

I could see them moving on from Milano to sign Edmunds. That wasn’t a nothing pick they threw away on Bernard

I understand the financual/cap differences between the sports. It was you who made the comparison...

I'm with you on the TT contract BTW. But if we had Toronto's long term cap sitation for example - it would be tougher to like that deal.

And while the cap in the NFL is 'soft' - don't act like it has absolutely no bearings on a team's personnel decisions or long term roster construction.

1. The cap will go up exponentially because TV rights deals are insane and half that money goes to the players.

2. Edmunds hasn’t been extended because Edmunds hasn’t earned an extension yet and doesn’t play as premium a position anyway,

3. His tough decision won’t be made at the expense of his best defensive lineman. I promise you that.

4. Most of their roster is already under contract for next year already. Between what Oliver’s cap hit already is and restructures they’re going to do on Allen’s contract anyway…they could sign two Olivers next year. Mahomes restructured the first year his deal kicked in and they found a magical 17 something million in cap space that year alone.

5. This is a Super Bowl window. If you’re worrying about the can you’re kicking down the road you are doing it wrong. We will keep our best young players and people will say “on they’re going to be in so much trouble one day” and until that day they’re going to win a ton of games and have a legit chance of being the champions.

If anyone is worried about future cap right now they’re doing it wrong.

See above.

You can’t even compare the two sports contracts as dollars. Tage will have every penny of his on the cap for every year of that deal unless they take a punishing buyout number.

in the NFL they’ll convert bonus money for Allen next year and poor theres over ten million dollars. the biggest difference between the two is the NHL has an unmoving cap where every dollar is real. The NFL has a consistently rising cap where most dollars are Not.
