You have hold off on criticism with Turcotte. With the concussions and other injuries/illnesses he's had over the past year or so its going to take him a long time before he's back to his usual self. I can imagine its not only going to affect his on ice personality, but I imagine his off ice personality has taken a major hit.

Surprise, a bunch of guys who were injured/sick long-term came back and weren't sharp or up to speed on a completely different squad.

Little silly of a time to be ultra critical.
"YoU hAvE to BE pATieNt"
Also, after a few games:
"Clarke, Byfield, etc show they don't belong in the NHL yet"

I disagree.

And using size doesn't mean laying the body. His size and speed allow him to protect the puck, very much like how Kopitar uses his size.
I don’t see him using his body to protect pucks. He doesn’t exactly box out his opponent. He’s not grinding in corners. He’s not in front of nets. I just don’t see it man.

Byfield has bobbled the puck since he came into the league.

Guy shows flashes of brilliance and you can see it wanting to burst out out one day.

It’s like there’s no room for criticism on prospects. Like the mere mention of something is a portent to being a bust.

Dude seriously fumbles the puck a lot. I still see the potential tho.

Turcotte is in that DL season. Returning from major injury is basically a washout year. He obviously isn’t fully recovered if he is still sensitive to light. Scary man. Honestly I’m pulling for him to get back to just normalcy.

Byfield was taken because he has a unique blend of size and speed. Byfield doesn’t use his size and speed soooooooo?

I agree about using his size in the corners, and one of my criticisms of his play has been his board work. He's not really that type of player though regardless of how big he is. I'd hope as he matures and learns the NHL game the coaching staff will work with him on that.

I disagree about speed. Everything he does, from skating to puck handling is done with both speed and power. Of course that in itself means very little, but you'd have to imagine or hope he can put the other aspects of his game together. I've mentioned this before, but Byfield takes a play 75% of the way and then often times misses the pass or flubs a shot. Is that the hockey IQ criticism that plagued him during his draft year or just a young player who needs time?

As a fan of course I hope it's the latter.

I know I posted a while back that Vilardi was LA's most talented prospect and a small minority of us felt he still had all the makings of an NHL player despite his setbacks. Given time and opportunity he's becoming what everyone hoped he would.

Similarly, don't sell Byfield short. There's a lot he needs to improve on but he's still very young and has had his own share of setbacks. There are very few NHL players that bring the size, speed and power he does. The thing holding him back is execution. It remains to be seen if that is again IQ related or timing related, but should he ever figure it out he'll be a force in the NHL.

Quite. Turcotte im not going to assess until after the TDL at the earliest.

As for QB given he’s been sent down, because he lost weight, to play whilst he gets back into full game shape. So as you say it’s a bit early to assess his game. As far as I’m concerned he played 2 games whilst getting top 6 minutes… step 1 accomplished.

It's not the criticism, it's the timing.

Kid just got back into the lineup after losing 20 pounds, how about we pump the brakes on that, as if he just took 3 weeks off to work on his puck skills?

I get the dude just came back again. In the two plus years I’ve watched him he has puck control issues. At times he is a wizard and I like that he tries things but he loses the puck a lot. That is not new or a temporary issue. It’s one area I’m hoping improves soon.

I don't think it'll happen, but you have to wonder how long Spence just crushes it in the AHL before he asks for a trade to get a legit opportunity. If he were a 1st round pick putting up these numbers I think you might've heard rumblings already.

IMHO the AHL is a garage League! No players should be playing that's over 30 and there should be limits on the number of 26 year olds at say 3. It professes to be a developmental league but its a garage League

Thomas may have just dislocated his shoulder. Not great. He was holding his arm coming off like it was a shoulder issue.
Not good for Thomas who's had his share of injury woes

Coach Sturm has the Reign losing to the worst team in the league.

Ontario os 7-5-1 in its first 13. Last year they didn't get their 6th loss of the season until game 19.

Sturm proving again that he is not good PP coach

Reign power play with trigger point Fagemo is so useless.

Fagemo shooting is powerful, but not accurate.

Spence has green line to shoot without having powerful shot.

Byfield and Turcotte do not shoot at all on PP.

It really looks ridiculous.

Was that when Wrobo went into witness protection?

Sounds like Byfield tips in a Spence shot on the pp to make it 1-0 against Henderson
He did. Almost scored a nice dangle goal his next shift too. Playing with Madden and Turcotte tonight. I had the game on mute most of the first period so I couldn't hear the prognosis on Thomas but he's obviously not playing. I'm really hoping it's not another shoulder issue for him after getting those surgeries last year. Didn't look great last night though.
