Shocker with the SO for Vilalta...my least favorite goalie prospect but if he makes a big leap and becomes the guy Im happy and proudly eat crow. Spence now 8 assists in 8 games....we can only speculate of Toby and Spence were on the big club what the GAA might look like.

Toby was injured yesterday...

Turcotte:
However, after visiting with multiple doctors – including a top specialist in Utah – things continue to trend in the right direction for the 21-year-old forward.

He’s been dealing with the concussion injury that was sustained at the end of last year…” before going on to say that the young center had been doing better over the summer, then suffered a setback prior to Training Camp.

Turcotte recently returned to practice with the Ontario Reign and was wearing a tinted visor; something that is believed to help reduce bright lights that can bother players returning from a concussion.

He might be returning soon, but some of this stuff sounds pretty disheartening. The fact that it's been that severe.

’It’s a total bummer and with his play style it’s hard to say he’ll ever be out of the woods

At least we know how driven he is and I have no doubt the chip on his shoulder is growing daily

Hopefully Bo Byram is a good example of the good side of these things an Turcotte can follow him

It is nice, but he is not able to score to save his life in NHL…

So far he’s a classic AAAA player

I still get the feeling he’ll break onto some NHL team’s bottom six in his later 20s and have a few good years once he’s past his injury concerns. Dude has the right attitude within about 15 feet of the net, i loved him banging around in there, and he seems to love it and get fully engaged with that serial killer smirk.

Props to him for (at least publicly) being a good soldier here in LA so far, seems To just be keeping his head down and working, I’m rooting for him.

Not that it means anything at all...

But I really like the guy on a personal level. He seems to always be in high spirits and has a smile on his face and is easy to be around.

Love to hear it

I mean I feel about that I way I feel about people in general—how you treat people who ‘serve’ you says a lot about your character. It’s nice to hear he’s just generally happy.

Does he return the shopping cart though? That’s the real test

I still do not see something special in his game

you’re not wrong, I’d say his best attribute is maybe his IQ/Vision. The physical tools aren’t going to jump out at you. Good puck control/passing but nothing ‘stands out’ in any way you could really label him (ie ’playmaker,’ ‘sniper’). At the NHL level I see him as a Trevor Lewis type utility guy, still has some upside he could meet though.

I agree. I don’t see him as a 40 goal guy in the NHL but I do think there is an NHL player in there. I think you’re probably right in that he’s a bottom 6 guy that will chip in with offense but in general be a reliable guy every shift. Its possible that he could be a good special teams guy with his game IQ. His 4 ppg‘s highlight his ability to find space.

He’s also a culture defining guy and whilst he shouldn’t get an NHL job because of his intangibles he’s definitely someone that I think would improve any dressing room.

I'll wholly admit this might be confirmation bias, but I feel like the AHL is the worst league in the world currently for concussions due to hits to the head. It seems like there are more bullshit headshots and elbows thrown in it than major juniors, college, European leagues, and the NHL combined. It's total insanity given that it's a development league, and it makes me furious to think about Turcotte dealing with this for years because a 20-something goon with no future in pro hockey took a run at him.
