not sure so would let Strand go. Not many Dman with size in the org and he has proven he can handle time in the NHL

Well, the right side is pretty well set next season in Ontario with 2nd years of Grans and Spence and the expected signing of Faber. All of them still on the young side. I expect they keep around a more veteran presence on the left side in Ontario with Wolanin and Gaunce and possibly bringing back Kasastul. My guess Strand leaves to find playing time at the NHL level.
Just my guess and a lot can change if/when moves are made.

All good points. I think one of them may be traded. I guess we also have Walker coming back. Very crowded right side. Not a bad problem we have

kind of funny as there was a mad scramble in front of Villalta and Austin Strand doing God's work and just hacking and tossing guys out of the way.
Great post!
Went back and watched the last 30 seconds you are referring to and it is absolutely hilarious with Strand in front at the end.
Must see...

This, plus does Sutter return? Dude has played a million AHL games and is 68 years old. I say they bring back Tynan, Frk and possibly one of their vet dmen (Gaunce ?). Maybe let Strand and Phillips move along.
It'll be interesting if they sign Lee or let him play his senior season. They're still going to have a lot of bodies in Ontario.
IMHO Lee looks like a much more talented Dwight King.. he’s that big grinding 3rd liner we’ve been missing

I have not seen Lee play, but the big Swede is putting up pretty good numbers with 16 goals and 10 assists in 31 NCAA games this year. He's also +14. I wonder if he wants to finish his schooling or turn pro? Do the Kings like his development path and intend to sign him? He turns 22 over the summer, he's not getting any younger.

2. TOI is not published in the AHL, not even sure if it's probably tracked either.

It's definitely tracked. I'v never gotten a straight answer why but there are tons of stats kept at the AHL level that aren't made publicly available.

It may be because the stats are tracked on a team to team basis and those teams won't share their proprietary info but... I dunno.

Shooting ability seems kinda important to me. His 7 goals with little ice time in his last 20 NHL games, say he does belong there until proven otherwise.
Yet no one claimed him off waivers. There’s 31 other teams that are far from convinced that he’s an NHL player. Also, I’m pretty confident that if someone offered a late pick for him he’d be gone.

Yes, he can rip the puck but after that there’s a whole lot of questions (at best). He’s another AA without the speed or the bigger contract. It wouldn’t be a shock if he were called up if we have more injuries but Vilardi is probably next man up at this point.

That was the situation when I worked on a pro team in the UK. All the teams kept stats but it wasn’t a league standard set, to a standard definition. It was very much what we needed/wanted, to a definition we defined. So the one thing we didn’t track was ice time because I was a one man band tracking everything. It was not a high value stat for us.

I remember being told at the time by the Canadian coach saying that in the ECHL and AHL it was similar in terms of teams tracking different stats, in different ways; but that was 20 years ago (making me feel very old).

That waiver thing is used too often as argument without looking at the big picture. There are several reasons why a team does not pick up a player. Frk has been in the league for a few years now and is not the youngest anymore, roster limitations etc etc.

Fact of the matter is, that he performed greatly for us together with Vilardi (how quickly we forget...) and got injured. Than he was called up, scored a goal, and got injured again.

I do not like it when a player does everything what he has been asked for and than gets a label of not being good enough.

Frk is a lot like AA, crazy wicked shot and is lacking in the other facets of the game. These are the skills that Detroit emphasizes, they drafted both of them. I still think either of them could ultimately put it all together but when you bounce around off waivers between teams or aren't qualified, it doesn't instill confidence.

They are both in about a good position as they can be in because if you can't learn two-way play on the Kings, you aren't going to learn it anywhere. The high-risk game is completely wired into these two, if they can temper that without losing too much of their production they'd be very useful players. If AA could learn how to gain that open ice where he's so productive without making those risky and low percentage plays he'd have a full time spot on the roster.

Sorry for Walker but I thought he was semi-overrated in his time with the team and now with the emergence of all the young guns- he should be draft day trade fodder. Not saying he sucks or I hated him...but think the current D Corp is playing pretty well and not sure Walker is better than anyone on the roster.

I could see him going but again credit to @All The Kings Men reminding me that he played the left side for a bit as well, could be a nice short-term patch solution for another year or two as veteran depth, as who knows what happens to Edler or Maatta. I'd also like to see how he fits with the team playing well as he looked good on a bad team.

Problem is you aren't going to get trade value from a guy still recovering from a major injury, he's going to have to reestablish himself before any team would be willing to part with assets for him. Better off just waiting and letting him heal, see what he's got on the ice, where the D stands at that time, and making a decision then.

Indeed. The only hope is some conditional picks if he returns to form in the first season

I am big walker fan but Durzi is way way way way better.
And spence and Clarke are on the way

I think we're sleeping on Walker a little here

Sure he doesn't put up raw tons of points but he does everything very well

He might end up being the odd man out but he's got term so we're going to need him to play and play well before we move him

I think Walker’s actually my favorite Doughty pair since Muzzin.

Walker - Doughty
Chychrun - Durzi
Bjornfot - Clarke
