Reign came back from the dead last night to at least put a positive spin on the day in the Kings organization. Tucson played very well defensively all night shutting down the Reign, the comeback kids scored twice with Villalta pulled in the last 3 minutes to tie the game and win in OT. A lot of people ask about Frk and why he isn't in the NHL. After all, he is an offensive force in the AHL, and that is very true. He's pretty dang good down here. But watch the very first play of the game. He kicks the puck to the center of his own zone from along the boards and Tucson takes possession, but instead of falling back defensively he wanders nearly out of our own zone looking to cherry pick leaving the Reign short on men down low and Tucson scores 20 seconds into the game. On the second goal against, unfortunately the rebound was between Grans feet and he didn't know where it was, Fagemo was late covering his guy. Villalta didn't get his pad down on the third goal against from close in down low. Still, I thought Matt had a good game overall.

Credit to Austin Wagner for that great pass (did those words come out of my keyboard?) in the fading seconds of the first period. That was a huge goal to keep the Reign within two. And once again Andersson proves he's an offensive force in the AHL when given the opportunity (especially for someone who hasn't played in ages), he's a talented offensive player but does the rest of his game (average skater at best, maybe slightly below, sometimes defensively challenged) translate to the NHL full-time? So far that hasn't happened. He'll be on the bubble next year, I don't think the Kings will walk away (not qualify) after spending a 2nd round pick on him, they will try and move him, maybe in a package or hope he makes the roster next year.

Anyway, nice bounce back win against a team that has given them trouble all season.

Two empty net goals to boot. Kings have one in the past what century. LOL. Good comeback win. Looks like Turcotte is out again.

Second game in a row that Frk scores in OT for the win. Andersson is red hot with 4 goals in 2 conditioning games. He showed great hands on that first goal, batting the puck out of the air on the rebound of his initial rap around attempt. I suspect he plays one more before he comes back to the Kings, we'll see if the Lemieux injury last night allows JAD to stay on the NHL roster along with Andersson, but that does mean two forwards sit every night, not ideal for young players.

Yeah...equally odd. But Andersson way more so because he's actually played a decent amount over the last two seasons with the Kings (13 & 23 games).

He wore 24 but then Danault came so he took 17 but Tynan wears 17 in Ontario and Gaunce wears 24 and Andersson won't be there that long so...

I'm guessing

I remember Lethemon's name from a long time ago, he had a great last high school season, put up crazy numbers. I don't think he was drafted though. Totally put that name out of my mind, then I see him again during a big-10 tourney game years later, it was right before COVID went down because I figured that college was next to be canceled. I remember York being an obvious standout, but Lethemon put up a damn good performance and kept it close against a much better team.

Now his name has appeared again  I haven't seen any of his Reign starts, but I remember he was explosive going from post to post, reminded me of Quick actually. He didn't have JQ's flexibility but he had a lot of compete. Does he still have that? With the goalie pipeline as it is it would be epic if a guy could come out of nowhere.

Akil Thomas is playing his best game of the season so far
That’s good to hear. The shoulder surgeries really seem to have held him back, unsurprisingly, and it’s going to take time for him to get back to where he was even last season. I can only imagine the amount of muscle mass he would’ve lost.

I think they hold high hopes for him still and I fully expect that if he gets close to his ceiling he will be a King. I’ve also noticed that he’s not been on his regular podcast for what seems like months. He’s obviously focusing on his hockey and not letting distractions get in the way. That shows his priorities lie in the right place as I know it was a minor concern for some people. Outside of our blue-chip prospects he is the one I’m really rooting for.

See these kids have talent. At every level they are producing. If they are not producing at the NHL level that's on the Kings coaching staff.

Those Reign kids really have talent.
I would divide them in the following groups
Level A players:
Vilardi, Kupari, Spence, Turcotte
Level A- players:
Thomas, Grans, L.Andersson
Level B players:
Fagemo, JAD, Madden

This is all I think of when I see the name.

You know the Kings are in the thick of the playoff race, in part due to quality depth play provided by younger guys?

I would actually change all the level A- players with all the Level B players.

Akil Thomas has always seemed like a Trevor Lewis swiss army knife to me. He can fit anywhere, but if he’s on your fourth line, you’ve got a great team. Unsung hero, locker room type.
