Reign came back from the dead last night to at least put a positive spin on the day in the Kings organization. Tucson played very well defensively all night shutting down the Reign, the comeback kids scored twice with Villalta pulled in the last 3 minutes to tie the game and win in OT. A lot of people ask about Frk and why he isn't in the NHL. After all, he is an offensive force in the AHL, and that is very true. He's pretty dang good down here. But watch the very first play of the game. He kicks the puck to the center of his own zone from along the boards and Tucson takes possession, but instead of falling back defensively he wanders nearly out of our own zone looking to cherry pick leaving the Reign short on men down low and Tucson scores 20 seconds into the game. On the second goal against, unfortunately the rebound was between Grans feet and he didn't know where it was, Fagemo was late covering his guy. Villalta didn't get his pad down on the third goal against from close in down low. Still, I thought Matt had a good game overall.
Credit to Austin Wagner for that great pass (did those words come out of my keyboard?) in the fading seconds of the first period. That was a huge goal to keep the Reign within two. And once again Andersson proves he's an offensive force in the AHL when given the opportunity (especially for someone who hasn't played in ages), he's a talented offensive player but does the rest of his game (average skater at best, maybe slightly below, sometimes defensively challenged) translate to the NHL full-time? So far that hasn't happened. He'll be on the bubble next year, I don't think the Kings will walk away (not qualify) after spending a 2nd round pick on him, they will try and move him, maybe in a package or hope he makes the roster next year.
Anyway, nice bounce back win against a team that has given them trouble all season.
