I really do not like Tynan’s game. He has low hockey IQ and makes too many turnovers.

Hes solid AHLer based on skills....same with FRK only Tynan more of a play maker. Vilardis a beast....he should be playing with Byfield but get the feeling he will be in with any package for Chychrun. Shame as he is making it look easy in the AHL.

He is not board that’s his game, just not a jump up and down guy, all business . Works very businesslike , stick handles like mad, and has great vision

I recently watched all 3 Reign games in Stockton, and I really gained some appreciation for Turcotte, Vilardi, Spence and Frk. Frk is an NHL player. His ability to get his shot is impressive. He is a leader on that team, hustles, stands up for his teammates and just flat out rips it. Vilardi looked really good on the wing. He has that great nose for the puck and can stick handle circles around players. He looks ready to me. Turcotte is just a flat-out hustler with skill and toughness. He is not afraid to make any play that helps the team. Spence blew me away. He is not a perfectly groomed player yet, but his raw ability and vision on the ice was impressive. He looks to be the real deal to me. He could really be a quality NHL player in the next couple years.

Really enjoy watching the Reign when they venture up north. Looking forward to the last meeting with the Heat. The two teams really don't like each other, and the games were very exciting and high energy. Great seats for $29.
agreed, Frk should be playing in the NHL. Actually his last NHL games shows it.
Vilardi almost looks bored out there, it's getting time to give him another look. Ideally with Byfield, vets be damned.
He just knows he is wasting his time there.

I understand there are just a few rosterspots but they should have gotten a call up over players like Turcotte, Fagemo and Byfield.

I posted this in another thread but directly relevant here and worth a re-read...

Scott Wheeler's ranking of Kings prospects (2nd overall in NHL):

4. Gabe Vilardi, C, 22 (Ontario Reign/Los Angeles Kings)
Vilardi’s a player I’ve always had time for and one I’m surprised the Kings haven’t had more for truthfully. He’s 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, but he’s more than just the puck-protection centre you’d expect at a glance of his listed height and weight. He’s not a power-forward type, preferring instead to calculate his way around the ice. The things that make him effective aren’t the attention-grabbing kind. He’s not an explosive skater. He’s not a natural scoring threat. He’s not the dynamic, creative, puck-on-a-string type. He’s just a well-rounded offensive player who understands how to use spacing to make plays in a variety of ways. He’s got impressive skill, with a threatening hashmarks shot and good hands one-on-one with goalies or in traffic, but he’s also able to take the puck off the wall and make plays to the interior with his puck control skill out wide to his body. He’s the kind of player who doesn’t have a star quality but impacts a game and produces just the same as players his age who do. I enjoy watching him navigate out there and I think he belongs in the NHL (which is supported by his results and his makeup). I wonder if because he’s not what you maybe imagine out of a player who looks like him, whether that has created conflict and frustrations with the coaching staff (which, again, I would likely argue has more to do with archetypes and bias than his merits as a player).

Hopefully Dillman will eat some crow for all her Vilardi hate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
She must base her complete opinion on his limited NHL time this year. He looks great the vast majority of the time this season, clearly a force and talent to be reckoned with. Maybe she doesn't watch any of the Reign games??? The issue with Gabe's game is all about the gas in the tank. Some days it's like someone filled up diesel in his engine mixed it with unleaded. He still tires too quickly too often, it's really the only factor that is keeping him out of the next level. He can make up for most of his skating issues with his IQ and positioning (like Moverare), but the energy level has to be consistent. Maybe the Kings want to keep him down here all year to continuing building on that framework and hopefully do well in the Calder Cup playoffs to build the confidence level even higher. I think it would be a huge mistake to trade him at 22 years old, especially when he lost almost two seasons to injury in his development time.

It’s been said that Vilardi’s game is not the “energy” type game like an AI or even Moore. It’s either the Kings find a place for him for what he is and not try to make him to something he is not. If his game is not a fit then by all means trade for something that does.

Clearly his game is better than the AHL.

He didn’t work out at center where a player is more valuable but is killing it as a winger… which if you go to his draft year, he was also playing wing and again he looked damn impressive

In the second half of his draft year he was playing as a center and he was even better as a center in 2017/2018.

Being a center in the NHL might be a tad too much for him due to his skating but I still wouldn’t rule him out for that position.

I wonder how much of Vilardi’s skating issues is actually conditioning versus speed? Is he significantly slower than Kopitar?

His speed is very comparable to Kopitar, although he lacks the strength on his skates that Kopitar possesses, with the boon of a little bit more lateral mobility.

The problem this season at the outset, was Gabe failing to make reads to anticipate plays, so he was reacting instead of being proactive.

I don’t really think he is ever going to be a super heady player in the defensive zone, and a shift to wing is going to soften that quite a bit, but the best thing to happen to his game is a bit of decisiveness in the decision making. It seems to be working at the AHL level, and he needs a shot with the big club at the expense of some of our dead weight. Preferably Brown, but Andreas is also on my shit list there too.

I'd really like to see the Kings work JAD and GV into the lineup for next season. AA should be gone...and as much as I'd say sign Brown for a cheaper contract, he is taking someone else's roster spot.

If they are still in the organization next year, they will be on the Kings roster. Neither player is wavier-exempt next season.

Vilardi definitely needs another shot in the NHL as a winger before being traded. I don’t want him turning into Simmonds, better than the chance they got.

Also has there been any word on Wrobolinski?

Some of the queries on Wrobo (I forget who) have been fairly flippant and disrespectful, so those ones didn’t warrant a reply.

I have no idea what is going on but it’s clearly a significant situation where his privacy needs respecting. At this point I’m only hoping that he’s going to be well and healthy (if that’s the problem), the impact to the team is a secondary issue.
