Any idea what the lines are going to be? Thanks!!!

Well, since the team will finally have all of it's players in camp tomorrow, it's hard to say since we have not seen them skate as a group. I'll take a shot anyway.

Mersch-Kempe-Brodzinski
Lowry-Amadio-Backman
Sutter-Bjorkstrand-Auger
Bissonnette-Crescenzi-Latta

Others in the mix Hensick, Gutierrez, Herr.

I'm thinking you swap Backman and Auger, since Lowry-Amadio-Auger played together almost all preseason. I think Brodz played RW on that line one game as well.

What about the D pairings? I'm assuming LaDue gets the first pairing RD slot, with Gravel as the LD.

What about this guy Trotman, then? Don't we want him to get first pairing minutes? Will he have to get those minutes on our ECHL team?

There's LoVerde, who's also a RD.

Then there's "A. Lint" (LD) and Cernak (RD). And MacDermid (LD) and "Sharpie" (LD).

With at least 2-3 future NHLers in that mix, our minor league teams have a problem that's actually nice to have.....

I'm guessing....

Ontario:

Gravel / LaDue
MacDermid / LoVerde
A. Lint / Cernak

(LD Zach Leslie is injured)

.....meanwhile......

Manchester:

Sharpie / Trotman
whoever / whoever
whoever / whoever

EDIT: Sharpie was assigned to the ECHL a couple of days ago......

Budaj (but he might get recalled today)

I believe, based upon what I was told, Q. Shore and Gutierrez were in the Reign camp on AHL PTO's. No independent verification publicly on what their contract status is.

Both are signed to AHL contracts.

The Kings trimmed their roster by 15 players [...] and assigning players under AHL contracts, including forwards Sean Backman, Paul Bissonnette, Justin Gutierrez, T.J. Hensick, Sam Herr and Brett Sutter ...

No official confirmation for Shore but the fact that he was loaned/reassigned to the ECHL (instead of being released from a PTO) confirms that he is on an AHL deal

So, Budaj going up with Quick injured? Chain reaction down to Manchester, eh?

I wonder if they'll bring back McCollum who was released a couple of days ago.

Thanks, Booba. Yeah, loaning indicated contract to me. McCollum perhaps if it is for the short-term, maybe call up prospect Jack Flinn if longer-term, would be my guess. See how he handles AHL games.

For now the Reign have 23 players, with only 1 goalie on their opening day roster. Obviously that will change. Maybe they call up Flinn? Also they have 9D including Leslie who is injured.

Speaking of that, I spoke to Leslie last night in person and he stated he has started to skate. It's gonna be a couple of more weeks.

Obviously something is going to change on defense. I also talked to Cernak (very impressed, he is a physical beast size wise, good command of English, nice kid). He is aware he is on the bubble and could go back to the OHL, but he had a very good attitude about it. A shame. From what I have seen he is ahead of Lintuniemi in his play.

Spencer Watson said he is staying with the Reign to rehab after his wrist injury. He is a really small guy, smaller than I thought, but I have seen him play in person against men in rookie camp a couple years ago and he is tenacious around the net. He doesn't know if he will go back to the OHL or not after he is healthy.

LoVerde will not be benched. He is the team Captain. Backman will not be on the 4th line. He is a skilled, fast forward who lead the team in scoring last year. Look for MacDermid-LoVerde pairing again. I spoke with Trotman last night and asked him who he is going to be paired with. He said he didn't practice yesterday due to a minor injury, so he doesn't know yet. Gravel or Leslie (when healthy) would probably work well together.

Sharpie and Gutierrez officially loaned to Manchester in the ECHL.

Hey, Regulate, that's excellent that you were able to talk to the players. Cool to hear what they have to say. Shame that Sharpie can't stick here in Ontario yet because of our depth on D. I'd love to have Cernak stick, too, but the numbers... Big props to Cernak for doing his best to speak English at the draft. He really earned my respect for doing that. Watson, I feel for. After Kozun and Weal, I don't have much hope for the NHL future for smaller players, but I like the kid. These injuries have held Leslie back and there's so much depth on D. Looking forward to seeing what LaDue will do.

As for the forwards, I'm not familiar with a lot of them now that we have so many new guys. I'm just not excited about our offense on the Reign this year. There Backman, Brodzinski...Mersch is a projected call-up later this year and Kempe still has to take the next step so, where's the scoring going to come from? Dowd has graduated. Wait, forgot about Amadio. But still, we're not loaded with offensive talent.

Guess we got spoiled in past years with Pearson-Vey-Toffoli, Kozun, Weal, O'Neill, O'Brien, Mersch and Dowd.

Cernak is quite a bit better than Lintuniemi. Unfortunately I do think they'll send Cernak back to the OHL. Cernak honestly should have been in AHL last year. He was better last year than a MacDermid for sure. Lintuniemi has two years left on his contract then it'll be off to Europe. He was a waste of a second rounder and I said it at the time. Oh well can't hit on them all.

I think, much like last year the team will struggle at times to be consistent offensively. However, just like the Kings, they play the same system and it's always defense first. The Reign D should be extremely good (defensemen anyway). I would match it against any team in the league. Scoring will be by committee. The loss of Dowd is tremendous for a couple of reasons. Unless you have seen him play every night, you just don't appreciate how much he makes players around him better with his passing and ability to carry the puck into the zone. The Reign have no one comparable on their roster. Kempe can carry in sometimes with his speed, but lacks that vision you need consistently. Hopefully he makes strides. Amadio I would think would be closest, so we will have to see how he develops. Since he is a rookie, pretty tough to put all that on his shoulders. The reality is, how Kempe and Amadio go will be how this goes offensively. The wingers with Mersch, Brodzinski, Backman, Auger and Lowry will drive the offense. I expect breakout years from Brodzinski and Lowry. Lowry was one of the best forwards on the team the last quarter of the season and in the playoffs. Brodzinski has the best wrist shot on the team (one of the best in the entire organization in my opinion), and once he went down, we were doomed in the playoffs last year. Too bad Watson got hurt. He would be able to help with the offense.

Stothers has been able to bring the best out of 2 very different types of teams the last 2 seasons.

He's got some horses to work with, IMO.
Nice balance overall, and lots of solid defensive
and 2-way guys.

Goal-production is the only question.
It sure would be nice to have at least 1 offensive beast
to build around (Amadio?).
But Stothers did it last year without 1 (Dowd was the closest thing to that, but although versatile,
isn't really an offensive dynamo).

So we'll see if Stots can do it again.

If they can get the offense going decently, they should be good.

IMO, Stothers is a secret strength of the org.

Where they will miss Dowd the most is on the PP. They don't have the guy to run the half-wall like Dowd did. I guess it looked pretty ugly against the Gulls the other night.

Forgot about Auger. He scored 19 goals last season, eh? But yeah, let's hope Amadio can be the next Dowd and Lowry continues to improve.

I think a guy like Brodzinski is the answer to the Kings awful secondary scoring.

He is good in transition (better than Mersch) and has a legit NHL shot.

Hope he sets the AHL on fire early.
