If the U.S. does beat the Czech Republic, which is not a given, meeting Canada in the semis stinks. By rising from 3rd to 2nd place by Canada going to overtime, the US has to play Czech instead of Latvia, and potentially Canada instead of Sweden.

It should be re-seeded.

^^ I'd rather deal with the Czechs, than the Swiss who should have beaten Latvia. And if you're going to win gold, you're going probably going to have to deal with Canada at some point anyway. The difference between silver and bronze is minimal to me.

So happy Russia was eliminated. That team is easy to dislike for me.

That sets up one hell of a grudge match between Finland and Sweden. Hank looks at the top of his game. Gonna be tough to get through that team.

USA has to watch out for the Czechs, they cant take them lightly.

The non re-seeding is absurd. It completely nullifies the point of the preliminary round. We're playing team 7 while Canada, who did worse then us, plays team 11. It's absolute lunacy.

So, anyone else think Washington is going to be awful from here on out with Ovechkin not caring?

The Swedes were so lucky.

But, you should be careful for what you wish for. The Finns has so far been sooooo much more complete than Sweden. Swe in an underdog role against a flawed Russia would have been a low-pressure high upside Semi for us. Now it's the opposite...

Eco- It gotta be time for a foreign coach for the Russian national team.

There is no way especially Rads and Semin should have been on that team. You can afford at the most 2 players like that on one team, Russia have 4.

It's the small details. It's soooooo simple. Every time a Russian D is passing the puck there is a Finn in his face with a stick in place to take away passing lanes. Easily 7/10 times a Finn D pass the puck, there is nobody on him. A simple detail like that decides a hockey game, it is as "simple" as that. And there are several more details like that, obligatory plays you need to make on the ice, that aren't made...

You also can't blame this game on 1 or 3 or 5 Russians. They are not the problem. If Slovenia had AO and Malkin, they could gone deep. There is no balance on the team.

Agreed Ola, I don't blame the players as much as the coaching staff. They just seemed to have no structure or game plan. 0 adjustment in any game also. This is a big tell about their coaching staff:

@drosennhl 2m
Malkin had to tell Bilyaletdinov to get Bobrovsky off the ice. Malkin had to tell the coach. I repeat, Malkin had to tell the coach.

While a rematch of the last gold medal game would be nice, it could be even sweeter to hand the Canadians a bronze at best. But gotta take care of the Czechs first. USA / Sweden would be a hell of a matchup.

FInland always does well, and punches above their weight. They are missing all their good centers, and their star player is a 43 year old relic.

Yet they got Silver in 2006, Bronze in 2010, I think they have done well in most world Champs and are set to compete for yet another medal.

We will have a Europe vs North America final. First time in a long time.

Finland might be the best schooled team in the tournament.

Their approach this morning was almost machine-like. They frustrated the Russians, who are all-too-easily frustrated.

The US and Russia couldn't be more different in terms of team unity and strategy.

oh look at me do the fancy fancy... SMASH...turnover.... goal for other team.

russia go bye bye

USA has to set the tone today. The Czech team started to find themselves a bit during their game against Slovakia. The best thing USA has going is catching one of the worst NHL goalies in the tournament on a back to back.

Not that it matters much, since only one plays, but they have the best goaltending trio in the tournament.

Provided the US and Canada both win today, this will be the first time a North American team will medal at all on international ice since the NHL players started going. 1994 was the last Europe vs North America final. 20 years seems like a lot, but it's really only 4 tournaments without one.

The ice hasn't seemed that big, to me. When NYR played over in Europe it seemed huge, but these rinks don't feel like the full 100 feet width.

now matter how it works out, theres going to be some awesome games the rest of the way through here. Its going to be a fun ride.

I've been streaming the games at my desk but now i have meeting from 2-3! I have to decide if i can get away with calling in to a meeting that's taking place 30ft from my desk.

The US has to start fast today. If they can start fast they can easily tire out the Czech's as they have 7-8 players in their late 30's to early 40's and they played big minutes yesterday against Slovakia and faltered late. It looked like the Czechs were skating in mud the third period.

who the hell CARES about team USA

our season has just ended

Don't get how anyone can possibly care about anything hockey related after the news this morning

When a player misses an elimination game, its always serious

3 weeks

6 games

we go 2-4 and goodbye to 2nd/3rd in the metro. Into a wildcard spot and a sitting EGG to lose in 5 games

You would think that would make us all care more about team USA, considering we have nothing else to watch the rest of the way.

It's far more likely that you're being overdramatic and saying things for effect, though.
