The shootout in the USA vs Russia game was insane. The game overall was great, but the shootout had me at the edge of my seat. Great performance from that Oshie kid.

The knee on knee penalty on Brown was bad. Both for the timing of the penalty and for the dirtiness. I think all knee on knee penalties should be 5 minute majors. They can be so devastating.

I also think USA was lucky the net was dislodged on the late goal to Russia. I'm not sure that wouldn't have been a goal if the net was in place, but it's hard to tell. I have just seen the replays during the broadcast. But that goal wasn't Quick's brightest moment in net anyway.

there's not. SUI has surpassed SVK and is challenging CZE for that 6th spot. I still think CZE is better if they would go over a best of 7, but SUI is closing in quickly. There's quite a big gap after the 4th place, then there's Finland in no man's land at 5, and then there's an equally big gap to #6 (CZE) and 7 (SUI).

This is my interpretation of the situation as well.

They really aren't. And it will get worse with their best player being 42. They just don't produce talent like when it was 1 country. Need more communism lol

The birth rates in Eastern Europe are dropping, and have been, which does not help at all.

USA v. Russia was an exciting game. Definitely a good showcase of the sport on a big stage.

That said, Russia carried most of the play, especially at even strength. Team USA is going to have to figure out the type of team they are quickly if they want to medal. Too much finesse stuff in the neutral zone and not enough pucks deep. They weren't going to out-skill Russia.

Agreed. Russia was definitely the "better" team. Kane was especially guilty of doing too much dancing out there. I know he's oozing with skill but against a better opponent thats going to lead to more turnovers than scoring opportunities.

Kesler and Shattenkirk really impressed me. The Olympics is a great opportunity for fans like me, who don't have the time to watch non-Rangers games, to get to know other players better.

This Olympics showing the downfall of Czechs and Slovaks as hockey powers... not out yet but if they fall early, it will take a really good 2015 world cup to convince anyone that there is still a "big 7"

Re-unification in the works, back to big 6.

ANY update on Hags?? Anyone?!

I cringe every time McD blocks a shot...

Doesn't say how he was injured, when it happened or how..

But Hags himself says that he'll play more in the Olympics..

One bad game in a 7-1 win and everyone was crucifying Callahan.

I still contend that he played a perfectly fine game. He's been asked to fill the role of the 3rd line on the US Olympic roster, and he did that well against Slovakia, and brilliantly against Russia.

He's not going to have the same goalscoring role in Olympic competition he does in the NHL. That's an insane expectation that some people still hold to.

USA/Sabres fan here... I just came here to tell you how impressed I'm with Ryan McDonagh. Watching him play as a fan has really made me appreciate how good he is.

Just wanted to say that Ryan McDonagh is an absolutely great player. Love watching him play. Always at the right place at the right time.

Very proud of McDonagh. On the top pair and #1 PK unit of a very competitive Olympic squad. The Rangers most talented defenseman since Leetch, and before him, Park.

Great game. Not sure what he was doing on the 2nd Russian goal though. Otherwise I thought he was our best D-man.

Cam Fowler reminds me of Rafalski. Such a smart player.

You could tell he was going to be great in the WJC.

Supposed to be an offensive defenseman and comes in and plays rock-solid, smart defense as a 17 year old.

Carlson got all of the credit in that tourney for a few clutch plays (when he played below standards in reality), but Fowler anchored that defense.

Aaand here goes another thread down to the McIlrath Fowler *****ing.

Not sure if this was directed at me but...

I never complain about the pick. And I'm not now. Nothing wrong with commenting on how good Fowler is. McIlrath will be a solid defenseman too.

Finished watching the DVR of USA vs. Russia...What an amazing hockey game between...Love this game!!! Thankfully I did not ruin the moment for me by going online. AWESOME!
