Evans will win that every time.

Kapanen has a great development year ahead being 1C in Sweden. They're not gonna forego that to rotate him in the 4th line and eating hot dogs with Pezz.
You have to think they're considering it though, otherwise, they would have just left him to start his season in Timra and not disrupt it.

Do you think he would be better served playing 10-12 min a night, PK2 and PP2. 50-60 games in the NHL, practicing with an NHL squad during a whole season?

Or do you think he would be better served being a 1C in the SHL in his D+4

I would lean toward the 1st option tbh.

I think he would be better served playing 1C in the second best pro league in the world, getting PP1 and PK2 duties there.

The only way I'm keeping Kapanen is if I know for sure that I am giving him healthy 3rd line minutes and good rotation on the 2nd powerplay unit. If I feel like there's a chance it's gonna be too much and i'm gonna rotate him in and out frequently and take him out to sit for extended period of time, then the SHL makes way more sense.

We have the luxury to overcook the guy and the 2nd audition against a full NHL squad wasn't one so glowing that I'd forego the SHL season. I'm sure he will get one more look.

I don't get why some people think it works like that?
If we need to call up a center Beck will be an hour away.
Oliver is getting treatment and will probably be on his way sooner than later.

Exactly, they can integrate Beck in spot duties throughout the year so Beck gets NHL experience this year while Kapanen gets an awesome development opportunity in the SHL.

Then Kapanen joins the team next year and Beck is already broken in.

Having seen his flair for offense I would rather he get those top line minutes because having another center who can play 2nd line minutes is important.
He won't get that opportunity here and given the progress he's shown there is no reason not to send him back for more.

We will see.

I agree Evans is having the edge for the role on the short term.

On the other hand, as good of a story Kapanen is right now, he will be in his D+5 next year. I don't think we should expect more than a bottom sixer.

Agree. A big year ahead for him.

Let's not forget next year is his D+5 tho

I'm not expecting more than a bottom 6er, especially with how our top 6 is already constructed with Demidov coming in and more high picks coming through.

Doesn't mean getting more offensive reps in Sweden won't help him improve his ability to produce in general. If he can provide a healthy amount of offense from the bottom 6, that's a bonus.

He’s in. Roy on the second, Kap with Dvo and Andy on a third line (poor him). The most stupid thing they could do is keep Heineman instead.

He is a surprise at this camp no doubt but lets not forget he is D+4. If he cant cut it this year, it wont be easier next year and he is beyond the parabolic part of his development curve at this point.

I think we may keep him as a 14th forward, going with 7D. He certainly has a role in the bottom six but as RHC and following the role/skillset they bring, its between him, Beck and Evans imo.
Personally regardless of the fact that it’s his D+4 year, he’s progressing really well. We tend to forget that Detroits model for decades was let them cook. Many draft picks that turned out to be cornerstones for them during their 25 year playoff run, played a lot in the minors or Euro leagues before making the show.

Sometimes bad news for someone it's a good news for another.

Maybe Kapanen will grab a spot because of Laine injurie.

Maybe Kapanen will be a really good one aswell! He looks very good at this moment in pre-season.

Top6 C for a year in Europe is the best development path for him. Habs management got a chance to evaluate where he’s at (and he got a taste too).

I can still post, I just can't acknowledge yours or anyone else's posts. Thanks @MTL Dirty Birdy
Tyson, you will learn better if you spend more time in the minor league*
You needs to learn to be a better person and to get more character before coming back here. My friend Therrien will take care of you for a while ...

What is a mystery for me is why the mod didn't make the opposite sanction ; Can't post yourself but only can acknowledge anyone else's posts ? :badidea::dunno:

You have to think they're considering it though, otherwise, they would have just left him to start his season in Timra and not disrupt it.

They wanted him here regardless as it is his first taste of NA hockey and his introduction to the team, management and facilities.

If Laine is done for the season I think he has a slight chance to stay but if not he likely goes back to Timra. Hugfhes was very clear that Timra was great for him as this is his first time living away from home and there is a great coaching staff that can help him grow his game.

ABB and Beck are more likely to win a spot imo. You also have to remember that RHP will be back at some point.
