Hayes looks solid in the mindset of "they were paid a 2nd for him and he's replacing Jeff Carter". He's slow as shit but you can see how he offers value as a NHLer. That being said, the fact that his remaining deal is 2 years makes me terrified of what next year looks like. He already looks like he has lead blocks for feet and it's not going to get better.

Pickering might be NHL ready by the end of the year tbh.
When I'd seen him in the past, my main issue with Pickering was a bit of a tendency to jump in on the offensive end a bit too much. He seems to have gotten a bit smarter about it, and that makes a big difference.
I can definitely see him getting some NHL games this year.
