the problem is they are doing many of the same things MB did, with many of the same scouts MB had. I loved how Hughes talked a good game about the importance of development, but their decisions have not shown good choices imo so it's at least concerning.
All GM's like all humans that ever lived will make mistakes, it's impossible not to, but the problem becomes when you make too many or repeat the ones you make.
I don't know, man. I still think it's too early to tell.
I look around the league and there isn't one standardized development plan for all prospects. All teams have some that make the roster and some that cook in the ahl.
I can see an argument for guys like Arber, Struble, Barron to cook. But then guys like Guhle, Hutson, Slaf....it's very common for this calibre of player to play at the nhl level.
I think we just have to have reasonable expectations. We've made like 30 picks in the last 3 years. We're lucky if 5-6 make it on the club. The vast majority will bust regardless of the dev method. I sometimes feel like there is a legit expectation on this board that all 1st and 2nd round picks should be nhlers when that is just not going to happen.
Every prospects is playing against the odds.
Sorry for the tangent.
