I don't see the problem with giving him games. I don't get the whole "let the prospects rot in AHL and don't give them games" attitude. To improve you need to know what you are lacking.

I did lot of competitive gaming (amateur) over the years and you don't learn anything by dominating the lower brackets otuside of learning how to play the games. But after you learned how to play you could spend 20 years in the lower brackets and you would not improve much. At one point you have to test yourself in the higher brackets and see if you're good enough or not and see what you have to improve and work on. Giving a few games to Mailloux, Kapanen, Heineman, ... will help them see what they have to improve.

If we expect to let all those kids play exclusively in the AHL for the next 2-3 years and then they'll graduate in the NHL and be ready day 1 with 0 NHL experience then we are extremely naive and fooling. There's nothing wrong with giving our prospects a few games every year even if not ready just to test them and let them realize they are not ready. If the only thing you do is dominate the lower leagues then you'll eventually think you are better than you really are. You have to be tested to improve.

Timmins said he felt they made a mistake when they brought Collberg over for camp because when he went back, he lost his spot in the lineup. But then they repeated the same mistake with Norlinder, who I kept saying should stay in the SHL another year. Yet he bounced around until he finally went back home.

Whatever anyone's opinions are, the only thing that matters is results in the end. Everyone makes mistakes, but with drafting, development, the more mistakes you make, the worse things end up. Everyone should just want what's best for the future of the Habs and no one really knows what that is so I don't get why people get defensive over anyone having a opinion pointing out a possible mistake.

i personally prefer him playing in the SHL its a very strong league and with his father managing the team we wont have any problems with his playing time

That's literally not what I said.

I said he could get a few games, but he didn't earn his spot at all.

The SHL is probably on par with the AHL, but either league is fine and Laval is already packed, so get him some top 6, maybe 1st line playing time in Sweden is great.

We already have Mesar, Roy, Beck, Davidson and Tuch. Ideally you want a vet or two in the top 6. Not sure we can add prospects there. If they ever send Heineman down the player called up should be another kid.

He couldn't go to the AHL until December and they should have kept him until then. They may not need him in Laval currently but in a month who knows.

My problem is rink size. To me Kapanen had trouble adjusting to the speed and reaction time of the NHL. He had some good flashes but most of them died when he ran out of space to finish his play. I'm ok with the level of competition of the SHL (I'm sure he'll also have lot of ice time), but it wont help him adjust to the NHL. Anyway...

Shouldn't be an issue with Kapanen. His dad is the GM and his coach already said they would use him like a 1st line centre.
