I can’t upvote this enough. Never in his career was he a starter!! No idea what Holland was thinking. Agreed that everyone involved needs to be removed from ever making a hockey decision again.

Some people saying Campbell has been better than Skinner? What are you smoking!?
He has been MUCH better than skinner since the beginning of last playoffs and he stinks. That shows you just how ridiculously bad Skinner is.

They missed this layup so bad. That is right behind the Reinhart trade. So inexcusable.
I remember hoping that Cossa would fall to us because Wallstedt was projected to go top 10 and I thought there was zero chance he'd fall to 18. Then it's our turn to select and Wallstedt is still there, like a gift from the hockey gods. Thank god that our crackpot scouting team decided to trade the pick for an undersized winger from the Q and Nothingbuerger.

If Campbell was an NHL goalie before he got here then it was as a backup.
He certainly isnt and never has been an NHL starting goalie.

Well...LA has a way of making goalies look good due to their strong defensive game.
With the Leafs Campbell only had one year that stands out to me (2020-2021) but IIRC he tanked in the playoffs.
What makes these stats somewhat tricky is that Campbell never started 50 plus games and only started over 35 games 1 time in his career.
Not one season where he was an actual starter (playing over 50 games) and put up good numbers.

I hope this team isn’t banking on him “finding his game” in the AHL. We still need an actual NHL goalie… soup should be done here even if he looks great in the AHL.

He didn't play over 50 games here so I'm not sure how that applies to this situation because he wasn't tasked to play that many here. It's not like he had an overwhelming workload.
He was, at least, a very solid backup pretty much his entire career then a decent starter last year, hot start poor finish but better than the constant poor play here.

As I said, Campbell is certainly to blame for his failures here but it's a much larger problem than just Campbell. It's happened with every goalie here over the years for a reason with the exception of Smith who is a mental and physical beast, and had his own goalie coach which is notable.

Never once a starter except for 21-22 with the leafs. Now take that season and break it down. First half he was on fire, last 15 games or so absolute dog shit 0.8xx sv%.

We blamed:
Dubnyk
Talbot
Koskisken
Smith
Campbell (was trending down when we got him)
and to a lesser extent Skinner ( he's in his sophomore season)

Get a good Fkn D corp for once . It's not always aboout the goalies except Campbell who looked like s*** from the start so I'm fine with him going to the Condors.

I am actually shocked that they did this. But at least it shows that someone is at home despite the lights being pretty much out all the time.
Makes sense though squeezing some cap space and have to throw this team a lifeline in terms of addressing the biggest elephant in the room - league worst goaltending.

By all accounts a fine person. Just not cut out for the role this hopeful Cup team thought they were buying. He’ll get his money and probably piece of mind following two years less a day of nightmare job performance.

Well, he was never on fire here. Just dogshit like 95% of the time.

Don't get me wrong, he needed to go but this only solves a small issue. The team is still mentally broken. We'll find out soon if it was mostly due to Campbell/Skinner letting them down but I'd wager that they will still give up an obscene amount of scoring chances and the next goalie will get all the blame.

I dont think that we really disagree.

My main point has been that Campbell was never a starter and yet he was given a 5 year $5M contract to be a starter. There was no reason to think that he could make that step and take on a starters role...especially considering that he had been fighting with confidence issues most of his career. The increased pressure of being a starter was going to be an issue.

That said...I completely agree with you that he has been a good backup. Unfortinatley thats not what this team needed.
