Oilers waive Jack Campbell

By keeping Shwartz around this long and the organization not realizing he is the common denominator after all these years PROVES the people running this train wreck are not using their brains.

Same old rutterless Oilers as the decade of darkness. Except now we have the potential to outscore all the issues and create a mirage of a good team. In reality this roster from top to bottom is terrible and when Mcdavid and Draistl dont play at nuclear level this is the result.

Guaranteed with the people running this team the next steps are to freefall even further into a fiery chaotic explosion. Then Bob Nicholson will say something is in the water or the food or some bullshit.

I expect nothing less than another 10 years of bleak and wretched hockey. Until the whole organization from owner down is turned over nothing will ever change.

Here is where we’re eventually heading.

Im sure they tried on Kuemper.

Why would Cam and his wife want to come back here? I never saw that as a viable option.

They could have had Kuemper, they chose Campbell.

Talbot still has friends here and would’ve been coming back to a team that just had made a Conference Final.

Campbell was this management team’s hand picked guy.

If they went Campbell over Kuemper then that's a mistake. I don't think so though, but we'll never know. That is, unless you can source me on that? willing to be wrong.

Talbot, still think no. His wife roasted the Org. I can't see it.

Mzarek, another questionable guy. I'd straight swap to get some money back, but I wouldn't pay much more on top. Same with Jake Allen, fringe starter type. noo....

hah, zero. Guy's health finished him. He was the type to go till the legs fell off .... and they did.
Mzarek might have some value assuming he stays at anywhere near his .923 Save % Campbell is probably going to require 1st and 2nd to dump 3.85 years of his contract. no team in the league is going to want that term on a cap dump. 2years is really about as far as teams go when the take a bad contract. Ie it would probably cost more then you want but withe the connor brown money and 3.8 sitting in AHL for 4 more seasons that is really going to kill the ED window which is the next 2-3 years.

Leafs fan coming in peace. Jack Campbell is a wonderful person, and I know it's hard to believe right now, is a very talented goalie. However, he struggles badly with mental health, something that's been a known since his days with LA. He's had his good moments, and he's been good then, but he's had some incredibly down moments... like now. Mental Health struggles are a terrible thing, but I can only imagine trying to deal with it, as a NHL goalie, in that spotlight.

What would be best for him, and your team, is for him to enter NHL Player assistance, and try and put his mental health back together. It would allow for him to be put on LTIR as well.

I don't know that he'll ever have the capability to deal with the pressures of being a NHL goalie, but with that contract, you do everything you can, to try and help the person, player and team.

Has this ever happened before?
A goalie signed to a 5 year contract and then waived after playing barely 1 season?

Schwartz said it directly, they had a choice of Kuemper and Campbell and he said he personally watched tape on both and overwhelmingly recommended Campbell.

Either way you don’t sign a freaking goalie for 5 years just because that’s all the UFAs available that year. Make a f***ing trade, do something else.

Oh boy, Kuemper was an obvious choice. Yes.

I guess it depends on what the market was doing. Won't argue, Hill is a good example. Find that backup with solid numbers who just needs a chance.
