I really had faith that Brown would pull himself out of this funk. I'm not sure when that will happen but I continue to hope.

You gotta wonder what the contract negotiation was like. Do you think that Holland made any attempt to negotiate the bonus beyond 10 GP? Coming back from a major injury is one thing, but if your base salary is league minimum, the bonus should have been structured in a way that you are performing better than league minimum. You ought to think that Brown would have still signed if the bonus were structured around scoring 5 goals or 10 points or some really low bar like that.

I'm going to say something likely stupid about Brown and this team.

I like where he fits now, I like what he brings, despite his lack production, but here's my statement, feel free to bookmark it and laugh.

Even if Brown doesn't score all year. I believe he will score some big goals in he playoffs for this team (assuming they get there of course)

Guy had another couple of quality chances tonight.

Hopefully the poor guy can cash one. Might start a little run.

He plays the game the right way.
It’s a small thing, but despite the total lack of offensive production, it hasn’t affected his effort or demeanour. Still busts his ass every shift, doesn’t sulk on the bench. Things have to turn around for the guy at some point.

From what I see Brown is good without the puck. Good anticipation, he knows where the play is going. Seemingly has a brain for the game. Trouble is with the puck he's only good pk where lots of open ice is usually available on broken plays. Its when he looks best with puck because he has time. When Brown has puck with any checking he loses it. He has no confidence on the puck. He shot wide last night on an open net with a gimme feed.

Lastly he's older now, tentative and in traffic he's timid. There were of course several scrums last night and Connor Brown not getting into them. He's been a little reluctant to go the boards as well this year. Not only isn't Connor Brown scoring he's not feeding anybody either. He's most likely on line to setup in front despite not scoring and let others dig for pucks.

Most of his shots have been pad stuffing. On one chance last night that was a good scoring chance it was right into the logo. Its as if his eyes are closed shooting the puck.

The guy in prime could be a good forechecker that creates turnovers and strips some pucks. But we got this player in his twilight and post severe injuries. Believe there was a concussion and a jaw injury last season in Ottawa in addition to his knee injury with Washington.

Its a long haul back for this player. Now he struggles not just to comeback from knee injury but huge confidence issues and probably questioning himself.

This is a large part of why I want this player to suceed. He works his ass off.

The truth that he brings something other than scoring can be supported...

But it shouldn't be.

The speculation that he can turn on in the playoffs and start scoring, while possible, is ridiculous. Conner f***ing Brown isn't Peca. This isn't some great player that is a bit over the hill and saving the last of the tank for one last playoff run.

This is an nhl average player at best who likely has had a career ending injury and the Oilers are remiss if they do anything but ship him out or shut him down asap.

Him being a part of such an amazing streak is coincidence by eye and obvious lack of production. He is an anchor to the team. No one can do what he is doing in the NHL and be anything but an anchor.

Well it's just a lot of stupid, be mad about the contract, but to pretend he isn't contributing is stupid.

And I don't think he's going to be John Druce or Fernando Pisani, but scoring even 3 goals in a playoffs year can make huge difference.

The guy knows how to get in the lanes and prevent. Adding the next dimension is the trick. I look forward to seeing how he does. Coming back from injury injuries is a creative process and can’t be forced. Btw, if Jesse looked like half the defensive player brown looks I would have bought into his advanced stats status.

pulju has scored two goals down in scranton. Starting to wonder if he'll score another goal in the nhl before brown does at this point...

The problem is his "chances" are constantly squandered due to his own ineptitude.

He's not "unlucky", he simply just has no offensive ability. I wouldn't trust him to score on an open net from 1 foot out.

Thats what everyone said about Foegele in his first season with the Oilers.

Brown has a history of producing. Maybe he never will again.

Maybe he will if he gets a break or two.

At least we no longer have a GM that will do something stupid like trade Strome for Spooner because a guy is going through a real bad patch.

Brown is still making a lot of good plays on both sides of the puck despite not scoring.

Was interesting watching daily face off today. Seravalli indicated that Browns cap overage could be traded to another team which is opposite to some posts in here.

I am not sure that Seravalli is right but I thought it was interesting. I am not sure if the Oilers have paid 3.25m in real dollars already since he played 10g.

But it would be nice if we could trade him to a team with cap space and avoid the overage if it is possible.

There never was clarity on the situation other than Fourier talking about his chats with Mouser.

All they really came up I believe is that even it can be dealt, what is that cost going to be.

Well if the Oilers have paid the actual bonus in real dollars and are just transferring an artificial cap hit then the cost should be minimal I would think. Its like how some players who are on LTIR can be traded easily if insurance is paying for it. But if insurance isn’t paying for it, they are unmoveable pretty much.

But yeah if another team has to pay the actual bonus, it would be more expensive to move.

We don’t really know,

Connor Brown has only ever scored 90 goals. Is that a history of producing? Foegele has identical G/G stats as Brown but adds superior skating, superior ability, better closing speed, better forecheck speed and we have Foegele in prime. There was always questions about whether Foegele was bringing everything he could but not whether he could be of value.

Brown is making plays, good plays, on pk. Really he's only a specialist here. Not doing much of anything else. He only gets 2 of his 3 assists this season due to not cashing. I don't know how icing every line and fumbling pucks and botching scoring chances is being good on both sides of the puck. Brown, EV, is bad with the puck.

In anycase its getting harder to rationalize Brown even being on the team. He seems to have mastered the art of seemingly acceptable facial expressions when botching yet another opportunity. Players like Pulju were raked over the coals everytime out for not cashing even though he was scoring far more goals...

With Brown it seems there no expectations, and thats fine apparently.

Actually @mouser and I agreed that it could NOT be traded once it was earned. But I have no conclusive evidence to back this up 100%.

Does anyone have a reference to where Seravalli said this. I'd like to listen.

But I thought you guys weren't sure if it was actually paid yet, which brings a grey area.
