He's avoiding finishing checks. Don't blame him, he needs to hit that 10 game mark played, that's money that puts a roof over his family's head.

We need to get under the cap so Foegele or Kulak or if the season goes totally sideways, both should go.

Then at least we can absorb this idiotic bonus that Holland tied us to.

Also to just general posters, is Nick Ritchie not signed? Why the f*** are we dressing Erne, Ritchie is a better player, sign him.
Isn't Ritchie the one the Leafs couldn't wait to get the stink off their hands? What would we be - his 6th or 7th team in the last 4 years? No thanks.

At this point he's probably better than Erne and maybe even (gasp) Brown if it's going to take 10-15 games for him to "get it going".

Sign him if he's willing to sign for the 775k. He's better than Erne and might actually score a goal from the bottom 6.

He's not going to move the dial, same useless player. 5 games in, and he'll be the next one everyone complains about, count on it. Suggest someone else.

Wayne Gretzky available?

The Oilers don't have many options here.

Now that McDavid is confirmed out for a bit, at least sign Phil Kessel at least for league min if he's willing.

I actually don’t disagree with much you’re saying honestly. Your and my assessment of the player is pretty similar. I hoped he would be a mainstay on our third line for years to come but the fact of the matter is 3 nhl organizations have used him the same way only Edmonton actually gave him a real look as a regular. I personally would have played him more but I’m not an nhl coach.

Facts are facts though. He got the most ice time and most nhl reps he ever had in his career here in edmonton. That’s not something we can debate it’s an actual fact.
Thanks. I understand what you said with respect to the usage being the most here. But with proviso that can be typical when another club takes a flyer on a legitimate prospect project. The part perhaps you did not follow is Blues were loaded at Kostins position. He was Ok there, even hit for some goals and as much as one can expect from rookie limited usage. Blues just had a full roster.

Bad news for Kostin is wings do too. Really its quite impressive whats going in Detroit and that team is purring at the moment. Testament to their depth that Kostin, Petry did not play today and they throttled the Flames.

Anyway I have considered your points. cheers

Only 4 more games until this clown gets paid into next season. And I can bet this asshole is probably thinking that too. Hasn't pissed a drop offensively, and has been a liability defensively with slow boots. Doesn't show any willingness to go to the hard areas of the ice. Doesn't even work particularly hard to make up for all these deficiencies. I thought he was billed as Hyman-lite? What a joke, and he is going to wash out of the NHL soon. There's no longer an NHL player here.

Makes you wonder how much influence GM McDavid has.

A guy that plays the same game as Brown(and better) like Tatar was out there forever, but they prioritized Brown instead.
This GM and organization has a penchant to bring in dumb low IQ players and stack them over smart high IQ players. Now we're loaded with a team full of stupidity at every position playing prominent roles.

Honestly just makes me wonder if hes playing tentative to get to the 10g mark and as a result, hes just really ineffective out there. I just never envisioned him being as ghostly as he has been.

With the way the season is going and the way he is playing, I think keeping him up is the wrong decision. I dont expect Jackson/Holland to make it though.

I'm a big Brown supporter but I don't think they can risk the carryover salary hampering their ability to improve this offseason for a player that is a complete non-factor coming off of ACL surgery.

It sucks because I love what he brings and maybe he just needs time to get back up to speed but the Oilers can't afford to take that risk. The brutal thing about this is that they get virtually no cap savings if they waive him so they're still up against the cap and would be out a potential top 9 forward.

In any event, Holland won't waive him because he has tunnel vision and no foresight or ability to manage a cap whatsoever. Plus I have a feeling that it would piss McDavid off so no chance that Brown gets waived even though it would probably be the right thing to do.

No one would take him on anyway unless the Oilers paid something significant, a $3.25 cap hit next year that has to be paid out in actual dollars (no LTIR insurance crap) is something even a tanking team isn't going to want to do because their ownership likely wants to save money. So you'd have give something of real value to get rid of a contract just 9 games in.

The only thing that really can be done I think is you have to move out Foegele or Kulak this season and get below the cap so more of this guy's cap hit can be absorbed into this year's cap, unfortunately you are going to be losing a useful player.

Totally incompetent management, now you guys understand why I blew up over this signing in the summer.

He had a severe knee injury and did not play for a year. Was never a consistent top 6 player, to begin with. Signing him for a league minnimum would be a solid gamble; getting him on that contract was assinine from day one.

What if Oilers management will hold onto Brown and trigger the bonus carry over? I guess chances are very high that this happens.

I sincerly ask all of you guys in Edmonton to protest now! And demand that the management gets fired immediately if they keep Brown. Act and make your voice heard before it‘s too late. Apparently this is needed to avoid another bad contract.

Keeping him would be a huge mistake. Especially for next year cap related but also for not giving a hungry Lavoie a chance to show what he he has got this season.

They bonuses are going to trigger, it's a given at this point.

They are going to have to move out Kulak or Foegele (probably Kulak at this point) to mitigate the cap damage done to next year. You can move out salary and just pay the bonus with this year's cap and since this team looks so far out of sorts you probably might as well.

It's the only viable solution, but Holland should be fired right now for putting the team in this stupid position. Absolute garbage management on his part.

Yeah honestly it was. I get why it was done. But 10g is a ridiculous metric for the bonus. He’s not worth 4m in a flat cap world. If it was performance based then fine.

Just poor negotiating from Holland. Not a great play by McDavid either.

Send him down to the minors and let him get his game back there f he can"t leave him there simple solution
Holland would never do it to his signing. My guess is this signing will mean the end of Holland as a GM, if they miss the playoffs. The next GM would have to break up the core group and clear the cap space to have any chance to build a competitive team.

If the average employee was as good at their job as Connor Brown is at his, well...

A Nigerian Prince scam has nothing on this clown right now. He is robbing us blind and the organization has bent over backwards to enable it.
