Post-Game Talk: Oilers play like an expansion team and lose.

God he is such a frustrating player. He is a zombie out there. Not engaged at all.

Then we have our actual zombie upstairs just being ok with it all.

I was a huge Bouchard fan and it physically pained me to yell out that he sucked that game. I felt bad about it but that went away quickly. His sophomore slump is biblical. I don't think they'll trade him, but if they do, I expect him to break out on a team that can actually shelter him.

Because he was put on the ice with McDavid a lot. Who would've guessed...

Duncan Keith was nothing special during his time here. And even then, a smart GM would've upgraded the defense during the offseason... and he didn't.
no one is saying he was "Special", but he was extremely effective in his role...and allowed Kulak to play where he should 3 pairing LD

Keith was injured for most of last December and coincidentally the team played its worst hockey of the year.

The stars were able to do what they did because guys like Russell and Keith could actually play in front of their own nets. Take sticks, stay between the opponent and your net and break up plays so the game didn’t get out of hand when the rest of the team didn’t show up for the first period every night.

The Oilers were allowing a higher GA in the playoffs and could barely hold a lead in the playoffs to save their lives.

They SUCKED at D in the playoffs, I'm sorry. McDavid and Draisaitl and Hyman and Kane were *that* good, that's all it was.

That was honestly the worst defensive group I've seen the Oilers ice in a playoff "run" that actually got them anywhere in several decades worth of watching this team.

Colorado series was a nightmare of "we score YAH! Oh shit we give it back 15 seconds later" over and over and over and over again.

You seem to remember whatever helps fit your bias.

Nurse and Ceci were exponentially worse than Keith.

McDavid was also worse at 5on5.

Kulak - Barrie was our best pairing that series, followed by Keith - Bouchard, and a distant third was Nurse - Ceci.
McDavid and Draisatl drove the bus during the playoff run. That's really all there is to it. That and we beat a couple of patsies along the way before the Avs steamrolled us.

Gee, then maybe we should've upgraded the D in the offseason instead of relying on "internal growth" or whatever useless trash they'll talk about at the end of season presser.

Wow, you mean the Oilers best players, showed up and played like their best players?

Thats not an Oiler specific thing you know?

They're getting paid 12.5 and 8.5, they should be driving the bus.

I love how the narrative by everyone going into the playoffs that the Flames were gonna be a tough challenge and potentially a contender, and they get get dismantled by the Oilers and all of sudden they're patsies.

Yep I am a sucker that has seasons tickets. I ask myself why every year after every 5 game home losing streak like this one.
But then you go to a bunch of games where they play good and mcdavid has 4+ points and its the best entertainment out there.

They should but they don’t and that’s part of the problem.

Or do you suppose Stamkos and Hedman being far superior players has something to do with it?

Nugent Hopkins isn't a Stamkos tier player, even if he's having a hot year finally this year, Stamkos is a way better player.

The lint in Hedman's jockstrap probably has more defensive I.Q. than Nurse.

The quality of players, especially role players matters, there's too many players on this team that can't do the job they're assigned to do, plain and simple.

You can't lead anyone if you can't back it up on the ice, you have no credibility with anyone.

all those teams you mentioned made the playoffs though

like the Kraken will
The Kraken's goaltending will keep them out of the playoffs.

When I say driving the bus, I mean "Playing at a level not seen since the 80's". Hockey media and the Oilers got fooled again and did minimal upgrades in the offseason... 2017-18 all over again.

Just a mentally weak team.

The fact that McDavid and Draisaitl are having the years they are and Nuge having a career year with us out of a playoff spot is unfathomable.

It's not that unfathomable, sadly, when you see that not a single player on this team can play a consistent 200 ft game (including those 3, but at least they're producing more than their fair share)

Of course they sucked nurse was on one leg. That’s the worst case situation we could have asked for in regards to their D. In the season when they were all healthy playing their proper roles they were good enough.

This team hasn't displayed a stretch of consistency where they look like a playoff team at any point during this season. The season is half over.

This team is not a good team. Terrible GM, terrible coach and terrible players outside of 6 or 7 guys.

And Bouchard is terrible. At this point we'll be lucky if he tops out as a PP specialist.

I agree with a lot of the post. Oilers haven’t been a good team all year. I do find it hard to believe out of 6-7 players, they are all bad though. I agree that they have played bad but I do wonder why so many players are having bad years this year.

I couldn't sum up the courage to watch the post game stuff. What drivel came out of Woody this time?

Get him a proper D man who can help clear the front of the net and get him the puck.

Like a Gavrikov.

100%. It is plain as day

It is INSANE that these 3 are having the years they are having and they are a bubble team. Just brutal team building.

Shows how valuable a solid D core is.

All of our prospects and draft picks should be on the table to improve this team.

Holland thinking Broberg is a nonstarter in a deal for Chychrun is absolutely hilarious.

Chychrun + one of a Schenn, Gavrikov, Gudas, or Edmundson type would go a long ways.

That's who I would target. The hand-wringing about not being able to afford re-signing him is just an excuse, too. Find a way, he'll be making what they need to pay a quality 2LD anyhow

It's too bad Keith wasn't in the first half of his 30s or something when they got him. Not a big crease clearer, but at least he knew how to defend. I don't recall the stats but I felt like he was a good mentor for him at least

I agree. They lost a top 4 D in Keith and replaced him with no one. They lost a good starting goalie in mike smith and replaced him with one of the worst goalies in the league in Campbell.
