Edmundson's contract is worse than Foegele and Yamamotos.

That's who I would target. The hand-wringing about not being able to afford re-signing him is just an excuse, too. Find a way, he'll be making what they need to pay a quality 2LD anyhow

I personally like Schenn the most of that group. I’m not huge on Edmundson but he fits the type we should be targeting.

I agree. They lost a top 4 D in Keith and replaced him with no one. They lost a good starting goalie in mike smith and replaced him with one of the worst goalies in the league in Campbell.

I think it's well beyond that.

The D is trash. It was trash in the playoffs with Keith, Keith did nothing when they went on their epic bender of losing last December, and sure Campbell sucks, but Skinner has more or less stepped in and given close to Smith save percentage.

The difference maker last year was Evander Kane. That's a real player. He made a real difference, you put a player on any team and have them score at a 50 goal rate and it will buoy any team significantly.

That and McDavid just took his game into outer space in the playoffs.

But it's still a poorly built team overall and that becomes very evident once you remove Kane. They sucked last year too without him and this year ... they look basically exactly the same without him.

His ability to score some goals lifts the team tremendously and gives McDavid/Drai life because losers like Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, etc. are better off just staying at home and sleeping in, you can't trust those guys when you're going to war.

And this is exactly why I don't want them to trade the 1st this year. Yeah, they need to because that moron didn't find the right fits on the D and goaltending, but he is not going to return proper value on a big trade involving the first. He'll end up getting schooled and abused in any trade and get the likes of Joel Edmundson for the '23 1st, Bourgault, ++.

The time to rebuild the defense was in the offseason. But he settled and now it’s too late, other teams are going to actually squeeze him for value now.

I voiced these concerns (lack of awareness and urgency) in his rookie year. Holland allowing him to rot for a year in the press box certainly has contributed to his lack of development.

Time to move him for an established D is now before Ken Legendary Patience Holland digs in, Bouchard is being paid $4x4 and turns into another negative asset like PJ, Yamo or Foegele.

If McDavid was giving it to the coaching staff there at the end of the game it was probably for putting Puljujarvi out there as the extra forward ... dude just casually does his whole clumsy dumb f*** routine when the puck comes to him on the boards with zero urgency and McDavid has to try and get the puck back from the Seattle player because Jesse can't hold control of the puck.

What a freaking disaster of a pick that was.
