Whenever we lose I play a couple games of NHL 23 and usually match against other pissed off Oilers fans

And? Those are the veteran leaders. Just answering the question. Most teams have them. In fact the cup is generally won by vet teams in the modern NHL. Colorado was the first team to win with a core built strictly of this generations stars. Mostly every cup winning team since the hawks/kings era was made up of vets.
Christ, now the answer is veteran leadership. We chased that rainbow before.

Well I think is Landeskog for Colorado.

I don’t think Toronto is a good example. What have they won? Lol

I honestly think the Avalanche, Bruins, Penguins, Lightning, Capitals etc just have a built into the understanding that the majority of players buy into that they have to play the right way, blah blah, culture no one cares for. Etc.
I hate TO, but overall, they have been playin the right way this year IMO. They have been good defensively for the most part.

lol, I don't think anyone on the Avs gives a shit about Erik Johnsson, he's done nothing in this league but be one of the bigger no.1 overall busts until Yakupov ran away with the title.
You forgot to mention play 17 minutes a night on one of the best teams in a while.

Imagine that, a bunch of first overall picks, a 6th overall pick and a 10th overall pick look much better than mid to late round picks.

You brainstorm that one up yourself?

He wasn't.

That's 3 top ten picks in the first group (Puljujarvi, Broberg, Bouchard) ... for some teams that's a freaking entire rebuild, lol. Stop making excuses for crap drafting ... 5 1st round picks and they suck donkey balls, guaranteed McDavid shakes his head internally when looks at these "support players". They don't support shit, these guys maybe have shown up for like 5/38 games this year.

lol. Once I had kids, I stopped playing. I think NHL 19 was my last game purchased. I had the very first one on Sega Genesis with Messier on Edmonton

They actually showed highlights of other games in between periods back then

lol

they're deeper at every position at forward AND defense.

So? They have one forward that isn't just a support player in Beniers. It's pretty easy to be all depth when you don't have 3 players taking up 40% of the cap, lol

The team is like a 2nd tier Vegas with no actual skill. No one here should be fooled by a team beating the Oilers.

so does depth..something the Oilers lack
I agree.

Elite players are harder to acquire.

I'd still rather be the Oilers, with a GM with more than 2 braincells to rub together, getting depth should be the easy part, unfortunately as Oiler fans we havent gotten to experience that.

McDavid is out-pacing last year..Draisaitl another stellar season
Yes, almost like they're really damn good players.

Again, how much did Duncan Keith have to do with last year's success?

Hell, remember when we brought in Andrew Ference for that awesome veteran leadership? Wasn't Lucic also supposed to bring that?

went pretty far with Keith last year

They had the same record at this time last year with Keith as without.

They didn't go far because of Keith being older than dirt, they went far because Evander Kane's ex is a nut job that gifted this dumb front office a second lease on life by giving them a free 50 goal scorer (basically) for the rest of the season.

That and McDavid/Draisaitl took their game to a 80s Gretzky level, which this organization deserves no credit for.

Keith was not good in the playoffs, nor was any Oilers D as they were allowing more GA in the playoffs than they even are now. People just forgot that part because McDavid/Draisaitl outscored many of those problems.

Eh not really. When the Blackhawks were actually winning they didn't have that many greybeard players, neither did Tampa really unless like Patrick Maroon was some massive veteran add.
Huh? Stamkos, Hedman etc had been there for well over 10 years. Tampa wasn’t a young team at all. They had a few young prominent young players but over half their core was 10+ year veterans. No teams built around this generations stars have won until the Avs last year. Florida, Edmonton, Toronto, Winnipeg none have won anything. The pens, blues and caps were not young teams.

With all due respect, I don't think people are fooled after one game. There has been a very long pattern of bad play. bad team defensive play. Soft play. Just overall bad play by a lot of guys.

Does it matter who we bring in to you then?

You already have a built in excuse of, how much did they actually have to do with last years success.
