The frustrating part for oiler fans is that they have got one generational talent, which is the hardest thing to get.

Now, they can't execute the easier part of building a competent team around him, eight years into the program.
 
Just watched the Spitting Chiclets sandbagger with Eichel. Much like many other Vegas players have said over the summer, Jack also stressed that their toughest opponent in the West was EDM last year.

Doesnt matter how bad you are in the first ten games of the season (the most important games of the year, even more so than the playoffs). When you have Mcdavid and Drai youre always a threat come playoff time.

Its not like they got knocked out by scrub playoff teams. They've lost to the defending champs two years running. They'll be alright.

how many games before we stop hearing this narrative about how they are a lock for the playoffs?

last season was last season, they look awful now

Gotta make the playoffs though. The way this team is going, that's not a lock. Not in the least.

Down 4-2 going into the third. I’m not watching but the shots are close but on paper it looks like yet another poor goaltending performance. Is this whole bad start mostly due to the goaltending?

There are good teams in both conferences but teams can escape the West relatively unscathed to the final. Look at what Tampa went through to the final vs Colorado and Tampa still took as many games from them as all 3 West teams. Florida was outplayed repeatedly but a goalie played out of his mind. Once that stopped, they stopped.

Yea, like that has nothing to do with the team they were facing in the final. It's not like it just stopped. Toronto and Carolina choked. Bob looking human in the final had a lot to do with Vegas too.

They have a generational on top of a separate Franchise player.

Yeah I don’t doubt that if Edmonton makes the playoffs they’ll be a handful with McDavid and Draisaitl. However that’s a pretty massive “if” at this point given their play and record so far this season.

Even if Edmonton did make it I’m not sure they’ve got the horses to go against the true elite of the West in Vegas, Colorado, or Dallas.

This isn't correct. Both of the West winning teams were just as banged up as any Eastern team. Kadri played with a broken thumb, and Keumper had missed a bunch of playoff games when Colorado won. And Vegas was down to their 3rd or 4th goalie. The West just happened to have the better team both years.

Oilers need to expend the picks to dump Campbell or Nurse. They are doomed with those 2 eating cap.
