Money isnt the motivating factor you think it is for the better players.

Location matters more for a lot of players. For middling players it seems to be a different story.

And that's what I'm asking for. I'm not asking them go out and get Paul Statsny. A Jokinen, Ribiero, or Legwand would've been perfectly fine instead of blowing money on more wingers.

This is true but MacT brought in Pouliot who we didn't need and Purcell who we also didn't need while dealing away Gagner, creating a hole at 2C. He has yet to fill the 2/3C hole and had at least a few options in the summer.

Smyth out, Pouliot in
Jones out, Hendricks in
Hemsky out, Purcell in
Gagner out, Draisaitl in

Eberle almost tied the game, so did Arcobello. We had our chances. Nashville had the one chance after the Eberle rush with Neal and that was basically it.

Don't disagree that the Oilers had chances however the Preds began to control the game again in the last ten minutes. They never looked panicked by the Oilers offense after that point.

We did need wingers. He overpaid though. Rumors are that he went after all three of those, and none had interest in coming here.

Yup. The Oilers took the game away in the 2nd. Thats something that simply would not have happened the last few seasons.

The puck movement on that PP to end the 2nd was simply stunning.

They are learning in bits and bobs about how to impose their will. Its takes a lot of team confidence and thats been in short supply for many years.

Its coming around.

Ask those guys why they did not sign with the Oilers?

We didn't need wingers more than centers. We have the worst center depth in a conference that is absolutely loaded with great centers.

If you offer them more money I'm sure they change their mind.

I seem to recall that those players had no interest in going to Edmonton.

...and why would they? Players in the twilight of their career want to go to established teams.

Why would they have an interest in going to a team still trying to find its way?

Do you want Acton over Draisaitl?

That's the point. Our C depth is so garbage, that we have Lander and Acton as the fillers. I like Draisaitl, but I truly wish he was able to go overseas/juniors for one more year. The fact that there were UFA's Cs in Legwand, Ribeiro, Jokinen, Roy, etc being available still grinds my gears.

Then make a trade if you can't sign anyone. Do something. Our center depth is indefensible.

Care to explain this gem? He has nothing left to gain by being in junior, he needs to play against NHL caliber opposition.

Yeah, this has worked out great for our team, hasn't it? He's going to get eaten alive against the elite teams in the West. There's only the unhealthy culture of losing with the Oilers. You can even see in his game that he has no confidence.

Why would money change their mind when they had offers from teams that might actually win games. It`s not like any of them need to collect food stamps based on their NHL salary. It is a reality that some NHLers, especially veterans, value winning and playing in a respected organization more than a bigger one time contract.

He won`t gain any confidence playing in junior anyway. He needs to play the NHL game to gain confidence at this level. He hasn`t been getting eaten alive yet.

Just make a trade that isnt a bad trade. Thats what you mean right?

Tell me how many trades that involve established NHL players happen before Christmas?

Unless you just started watching hockey you know that teams need to find out where they are at before those types of trades happen.

I get being unhappy but there isnt much substance to what you are saying here.

The Oilers were never in jeopardy of losing a playoff spot anyway because they just arent good enough yet. What sense does it make to rush a trade and sell low? Makes infinitely more sense to wait until a team 'needs' something you have...no?

Then make a trade. Pick the scraps of a cap strapped team.
