And they won 2 more cups. But I guess that doesn't count since you've already made up your mind that dependent on who the GM is, determines whether the cups matter or not.
Have the Oilers won a Cup yet? Do you think he'll be able to sign McDavid, Draisatl, and Bouchard to reasonable deals while keeping the rest of the core of the team intact? Because it doesn't seem like he's been able to do that in the past.

My point is, that nobody cares about what MacT did because it was 40 years ago. 40 years is a lot more time to have to forgive someone than 3 years. With MacT, we're talking about something that happened before a good portion of the members of this board were even born.

MacT was also not management when he made his mistake. He was a depth player in his 20s, in a decade when the party lifestyle was the norm. Not the #2 guy in a multi-million dollar company who is supposed to be a leader to his entire organization.

Time doesn't make what MacT did less tragic - he killed someone after all - but at least he served some time for his crime. He actually went to jail. Bowman got to step away from a job for a couple of years and come back to one of the best GM jobs in the league.
Your point isn't accurate. When the Oilers rehired MacT there was STILL rancor and all the same comments of "I'll never watch again" disgusting etc. Maybe you're not familiar that the vitriol remained and was worse even when MacT was coach or Manager here than when he was a player.

Next, the Kyle Beach incident was 2010, a full 14 yrs ago. So I don't know where you're getting 3yrs from. Thats when court proceedings occurred, not when events occurred.

Finally MacT was convicted, charged, sentenced with vehicular manslaughter a serious and frankly heinous crime.

Bowman at worst is guilty of dereliction of ideal duty. Not of a crime.

This ISN'T the Oilers hiring Aldritch, who committed the crime. I would have a much different response if it was.

Chia came in with McDavid, 2015 1st and 2nd, Hall, Ebs, Yak, RNH, Pulju and did jack all with it.

Holland got us to the SC finals but he did some bads too. AA trade, adding Kesselring to Bjugstad trade, Nurse deal, Kassian deal.

Bowman inherited an elite team in Chicago which resulted in 3 cups.

All I'm saying is you can only deal with what you have in hands.

Chia could have built a dynasty team but he messed it up even with prime assets
Half of what Chia 'inherited' was prime aged talent on contracts that had turned into upside down investments.

Not going to go over it again, but a lot of that context gets thrown out the window when this stuff gets rehashed.

The right move in 2015 was always a full on rebuild. There was no immediate Cup contender until that team had depth.

Weird because there's definitely a very large contingent of negative reaction about this hire, both from a PR and an ability perspective. Hardly just me decrying this hire.

As for Holland, your constant bellyaching about the starting goalie suggests to me that you weren't satisfied with at least a part of his work either.
Yeah but this is your favorite thing here. Whenever theres some rancor about the club. Then you arrive with bells on. You were still in the Oilers are shit mode even in the Conference Final. Truth be told. If you don't want to be characterized don't be a caricature.

I must say, how Chicago won their Cup with skill, and league best passing execution leading to team speed is how I envision this Oilers team doing it.

I would like someone to grill Bowman on wtf happened with the Jones extension though. But on the surface, he was a UFA they were trying to steal and avoid having go to market, and he was a UFA asked to be sign to a sinking ship which was was Chicago was at that point with Kane/Toews/Keith decline. It’s less of an egregious error than the Nurse signing I would say.

I praised the UFA period that Jackson had. They performed very well.

This is something that should be scrutinized from all angles. It's not a good or even a necessary hire.

Have the Oilers won a Cup yet? Do you think he'll be able to sign McDavid, Draisatl, and Bouchard to reasonable deals while keeping the rest of the core of the team intact? Because it doesn't seem like he's been able to do that in the past.
No, they haven't won a cup yet, so there is still room for improvement, isn't there? Why don't you relax and take a breath, man. Give the guy a chance, for God's sake. You're starting to sound like the very group you detest. You know, the ones that are constantly on Skinners back. Do you think Skinner will ever have what it takes to win a cup?

Yes. For sure, thought the same. Actually I’m always worried about inactivity by a GM. Not every move will work out, but you have to try and have to have the ability to find and execute deals. This body of work shows he can work with GMs in this league. The body of work, is however a mixed bag.

Bowman signed Brad Richards when every big brained fan and journalist said he was a washed up bum

Guess Bowman knows a thing or two apparently
Bowman also traded a guy who is 5th in the league in scoring since that deal for a 2nd line tweener.

Guess he’s the worst GM in the league.

There’s no denying Bowman made some shrewd moves early in this Blackhawks tenure as GM. He also made some terrible ones that forced his own hand into bad deals and shut the teams window earlier than it should have closed and the last 4 or 5 years of his tenure in Chicago are awful.

I have to say it, I was really excited for the upcoming season with all of the changes/retentions to the lineup, and was looking forward to seeing this team potentially make another deep playoff run.

Now, I feel like I've been doused in ice water.

I've read up on what Bowman has supposedly done during his time away from the league, and I already know that he was far from the only individual culpable in the whole Kyle Beach incident, but I can't help but think that the Oil could have hired a comparatively-competent (or outright better) GM without all of the additional baggage.

I can't see myself boycotting Oilers games completely (too many players on this team that I like), but spending less of my free time on the Oilers and more on other teams in the league seems fine to me.

What was the rapists name again? Completely forgot since all outrage and hate are directed at known hockey names instead of the absolute disgusting monster of a rapist.
In all fairness those who go silent and or turn a blind eye to something as serious as this are enabling such predator to carry on and continue to add victims to thwre list

Their window really started to close when their top pairing dman (Seabrook), started to cripple up with multiple injuries.

True. But that blind eye in this case, amounted to accepting that his boss would handle situation and his boss having waited 3 weeks or so to bring the issue to HR.

100% Bad PR. But PR isn’t GMing. Could still be a good GM hire though, time will tell.
Could be, I'm sticking with the team regardless of how much I hate the hire so I'm open to being wrong. Bowman doesn't really have to do much, Holland and now JJ have put this team in a great position for at least the new few years so Bowman merely needs to just not screw up.

The Oilers could have won the cup in 2016-17 if Chia was smarter with assets management. That's 2 years after McDavid draft. Even if we had a bad contract like Lucic. our draft picks and the right trade would have put the Oilers over the top and we would be talking about a dynasty

A core of;
McDavid
Drai
Erickson EK
Aho/Hintz
Ryan McDonagh(2016 1st trade)
Marino(would have stayed an Oiler if Chia wasn't fired)
RNH
Eberle
Klef
Nurse
Hall/Larsson
Prime Talbot

So yes, Chia inherited a lot

Agreed, and for that, he should pay the price. But how long do you think that payment should last, and do you not believe in any kind of redemption and growth?

It seems for JJ, experience was a main factor. And of the candidates out there (there really didn’t seem to be many), Bowman had the most experience.
