Jeff Jackson says their management model will be with all of them working together when making deals and signing contracts... not just Stan Bowman.

So there is that.

The last time we hired a bald GM, it didn't go well.
Mac T had a full head of hair and that didn’t work either. We may need to look at different criteria.

Chicago had a 12 years window and won 3 cups. The team is going to get worse as they players age. How long were you expecting the team to be good for?

As for the trades, the first half of players on that list were cap casualties. They even had to "cheat" in order to fit some players in. The later half, well it's hard to win trades when your team is on the decline.
A 12 year window? I’d love to know how you did that math.

It’s hard to win trades when your team is on the decline is about as convincing an argument as “you can’t squeeze people in this league.”

Nothing we can do now that Bowman was hired. I didn't want this hiring at all but its a reality. I'm not optimistic about Drai's new extension. I feel it'll be turbo inflated if he stays now. Judging by a lot of his last bunch of signings in Chicago.

Hopefully he's learned a lesson and hopefully JJ intervenes if shit goes south.

The shock will wear off come September unless Drai hasn't signed by then . Lol

Interesting way to tell your players they're on their own if anything happens.

Gazzola says there were a lot of eye rolls and sighs at the press conference today from Oilers management.

Teams texted in to Oilers reporters saying "idiots"

LOL great

This team is so undeservedly arrogant. You could tell Jackson and dickhead thought they were above this from their body language.

Now we have to rely on this guy to clear cap to resign our RFAs. This might be a disaster before training camp even begins.

But he's proven it wasn't a fluke and proved his worth. It's possible for someone to commit the most abhorant and serious crime and still come out the other side better for it. Bowman didn't get signed while in prison still serving a sentence, and has spent the last 2 years in some forms of councelling and therapy while being barred from the league during that time.
For sure. I think we're on the same side.

I was just commenting on the argument that the MacT signing was better because he paid his dues. He didn't at the same, but he's proven he's changed since then. Bowman deserves that chance too.

Don't care much for Gregor, but what he said about Stan walking the walk rings true to me. Willing to give him time to show that. Jackson put his reputation on the line and that means something.

Willing to bet those social media hypes and posters in this forum deploying this hire and swearing off anything Oilers haven't spent shit on tickets, merchandise etc on this franchise ever.

Hope he is a good GM for us, even close to Holland will suffice. Glad it got done early enough so he can get on with business.

I'm not interested in his personal life only how he affects Oiler results. Not my business.

My point is that guys are saying they screwed up moving those players. I said the cap forced them to do that.

Try to keep up, sunshine.;)
The problem isn’t that they were forced to trade them. It’s that they were never able to get anything meaningful in return for them.

If there wasn't a cap, most of those guys would have stayed in Chicago.
And if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle.

So Bowman was forced to do bad deals because the team was in a cap crunch. Can you guess what situation we're in right this minute?

The problem isn’t that they were forced to trade them. It’s that they were never able to get anything meaningful in return for them.
Just imagining him possibly dealing Broberg or Holloway is a thought that should terrify people.

We are on the same side in this, thanks for clearing it up.

When you have players that are really good, and you can't afford them, you have to take back lesser talents. And if you are still in a championship window, nice draft picks and young prospects usually won't cut it.

And if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle.

So Bowman was forced to do bad deals because the team was in a cap crunch. Can you guess what situation we're in right this minute?

Just imagining him possibly dealing Broberg or Holloway is a thought that should terrify people.
And they won 2 more cups. But I guess that doesn't count since you've already made up your mind that dependent on who the GM is, determines whether the cups matter or not.

Jackson laid it out pretty clearly that decision making is going to be de-centralized aka he’s going to be calling the shots and Bowman is going to be making the calls and drawing up the paper work, going on the road with the team and handling all the monotonous day to day. I fully expect the work Jackson has done this summer wrt the roster to continue.

We’ve hired one of the few GMs in this league who has proven unequivocally that he can’t do what we need in order for this team to have any semblance of a successful future.

The Oilers are essentially in the same position the Hawks were after they won their last cup (we just don’t have anything to show for it because Holland also sucked). We are a capped out team with basically no futures and precious little equity to make additions to the roster.

This team needed someone forward thinking who could do something guys like Bowman, Chiarelli and Holland proved they couldn’t do. Otherwise we are just going to be doomed to the same decline as those teams had but we never got any cups out of it.
