Can't really understand this move from any angle. They were doing fine without Bowman, why add all the extra baggage? This is going to be so polarizing and such a distraction from a team on the precipice of winning. Don't know how it's worth it at all.

I'm all for second chances, but we're talking about someone that played basically the central role in the cover up of sexual abuse that resulted in additional abuse at a school.

Sorry, but you don't walk away from that fresh as a daisy. Some things you just sensibly steer away from.

Hope Edmonton, the organization, not the city or the fans, get pilloried for this.
I think if we are going to give Q and Bowman second chances (and I think most people deserve second chances), they should still be eased in to hockey and the NHL. Get a scouting job or something. Q can be an assistant. To just thurst them back into the mix in a premier position doesn't seem like the right thing to do.

And like a lot of people already said: the baffling thing about this is that he isn't even a good GM! If someone hired Quenneville as their HC at least they could justify it by saying he's the best there is. Same can't be said for Bowman...

As an oilers fan im not impressed at all by this hiring. Have nothing against guys getting second chances. But they need to work for it.
This guy litterally gets out of jail and gets handed the keys to a Lamborghini

Figured it would of took a season or to for someome to take a chance on these guys not a couple days, also Figured they would have to work there way back up the totem pole not get the thrown right from the start

Guess scotty bowman sure has friends in high places still.......

What’s the money line on Quenneville ending up as the Edmonton bench boss by the end of next season?

It's not worth it. Dumb decision. No Oiler fan is defending this lol

The comparison is due to the fact that the former can't be handwaved away when discussing the latter.

And I don't really have the stomach to listen to a bunch of people minimizing the role of the individuals involved in covering up the sexual assault of a teenager. But being good at sport ball cleanses all sins so maybe I should expect it.
Agreed 100%

This board has quite a lot of people who find all sort of excuses for this group of pedo supporters who did nothing when one of their players was sexually abused. Always someone else. That someone else is the bigger reason. Man lost millions! What is this woke mumbo-jumbo?!

Each one of them should swallow a thick fat turd sandwich. Having a job in the NHL is not some kind of basic human right that should be given to you after being slapped on the wrist for covering actions of a serial sexual abuser and a paedophile.

From an ops perspective, every press conference is going to be a god damned trainwreck. Every player is going to be asked about this. Every time the owner or the GM is in front of cameras this is going to come up. There will definitely be pieces in every major publication about it. TSN and SN may play softball because of the league optics but just why invite the distraction?

Doesn't make a ton of sense for a middle-level talent. I'd honestly get a team hiring Q (even though it's just as morally repugnant) but for him?

Couldn't care less about the optics, guy lost his job and 3 years worth of salary so easily ten millions dollars in the process, that's enough. We'll see how he is as a GM, he didn't really build the Hawks, mostly inherited them.
Ohhhh noooo a rich guy lost his ability to become richer for a few years.

Lol that's not punishment befitting helping to cover up sexual assault, and we really have to stop thinking that way. It's not like he was at risk of living under a bridge.

You think having to get a 50 foot yacht instead of a 100 foot yacht isn't a f***ing punishment?

Baffling thing is his GM record seems mixed at best even without the obvious baggage. He inherited the best pieces and had some really bad trades, getting rid of Panarin and Teravainen for example. Like how could this be worth it?
The TT trade was even worse than it seems at first glance, and was rooted in having overpaid Bryan Bickell, then being over the cap and having to staple Teravainen to Bickell to get rid of him.
