Lol yeah Broberg agent new some one was gonna offer him near triple what he is worth at the moment? Common now...
Did they know triple the offer was coming? Probably not, but would I fire my agent if they signed me to $1.5M contract that could be signed at the end of September instead of waiting to see if something did come my way? Yes I would.

Come on now...

Knowing this locker room, even if they somehow match for (either of) these guys, the guys that took less to win will remember. Don’t think either player would finish their contracts here

That Broberg contract looks impossible to swallow... and its a huge frickin shame.

Way too much time put into the player to lose him for nothing.

f*** both of those guys, you potentially have your leaders discussing taking less and these 2 losers sign an offer sheet.

So much for trying to keep a team together with cheaper parts.

For Broberg I get it on a personal level. He could easily flop again or get injured like he always does. The $9M is enough for him to live a comfortable life even if this is the last deal he ever signs, and I can't blame him for that.

Holloway on the other hand is the one that makes little to no sense. He might actually end up costing himself some money in the long run with this deal.

Anyone know if these offersheets have been signed by Holloway broberg? Or are at Louis saying they have offersheeeted them and waiting for descion? Or does the 7 days start now?

Teams don’t actually send unsolicited offer sheets to players hoping they’ll sign. Teams are free to negotiate with RFAs, then if the two parties agree to a contract they write up an offer sheet with the contract details.

The offer sheet is essentially a notice to the original team that the RFA has agreed to a contract with the other team.

This can’t be stressed enough, if the oilers signed Broberg to this contract yesterday the outrage here would be massive. Why would you sign it today now? Most people thought you’d get both for less than $4.5. Let him go, he chose the money and found someone to give it to him.
well of course we would....that's a ridiculous contract for an RFA

but why are you comparing offer sheets to signing an RFA? the entire point is the overpay

So you think Broberg is a loser because he signs an offer likely more than double what the Oilers would have paid? This is life altering for him and his family, and those leaders who might take 12 mil AAV instead of 14 mil are in another stratosphere and also make loads of money off the ice. This is how the NHL and the hard cap works.

Maybe. Analytics show that he was worse than Ceci so who knows. Thats a massive risk for a team who’s taking a huge swing at the cup this year. Especially cause matching means we can’t trade Broberg in season.
Ceci is on the back 9 of his career
Broberg's is just getting started

I'll bet on the potential

Yup. Again, I don’t see either player finishing their contract here if they match. Will no longer fit in the lockerroom and blue collar fanbase will be disgusted with them putting the team in a bad spot

Do you really feel that not matching sends that message? That not wanting to overpay your two young players who were offersheeted is being steamrolled?

I do but I understand not allowing other teams to dictate your payroll either. But I feel that letting either player walk is a mistake you can't make or your inviting further offer sheets in later years as you've indicated to teams you will cave if pushed into a tight spot.

Holloway is not a huge overpay and his production may outperform his 2 year contract and is manageable. Broberg looked excellent in the playoff pressure cooker, and while it might be an overpay it is only roughly $1M more than Ceci makes now. Jettison Ceci, Kane to LTIR and move on.

He less of the losers, he wanted out before. But f*** him, he doesn’t get this offer sheet if he isn’t given the chance in the playoffs and he looks better than Nurse, not hard to do.

Offer sheets are the dumbest things out there, get rid of them, one side is always f***ed over.

The wording I’m seeing isnt so clear, all I see is blues GM saying they’ve tendered the offersheets to the two players and no clarity to if they’re signed or not. But yes most times you don’t hear about these things
If there is a time frame to respond by the Oilers, the players have signed them.

I do not disagree but if you don't match do you show other teams you're willing to be steamrolled?

With the cap rising by leaps and bounds and many teams being this close to the cap cieling in the off season I imagine signing RFA's to offer sheets is going to become a thing?
I've been a believer in Broberg from draft day. But I just think a cap crunched window team is going to choose cap freedom and a shitty lottery ticket to find a more advanced d-man at trade deadline. They have to hope a right-handed Bo Ackey can grow into a prospective NHL d-man in a mid-range timeframe and similar hope for Wanner who's closer but with less upside.

Oilers won't be steamrolled. It's an NHL big money driver operation. This is business they always knew was a viable risk balancing window cash poor with sustaining it through a shallow prospect pool.

We'll see what the organization does and ultimately it comes down to how they perceive Broberg's value to this franchise now and years to come at a $4.5 million aav price tag.

EDIT: I kinda think Holloway is a no brainer to match at that price tag and essentially zero value that a 3rd round pick has to return a prospective NHL talent. This is a calculated strike to get a young NHL ready pedigree d-man with upside.

I understand being annoyed, but I don't get being mad at the players.

Oilers priorities this offseason...

Working on Drai.
Signing....Janmark, Henrique, Skinner, Arvidsson, Stetcher, Hamblin, Perry, Brown, other Brown, Pickard, Carrick, Dineen, Philp.
Trading Bourgault, Trading McLeod.

So if you are the players, where do you feel the organization places you on the level of importance....well after signing several 7th dmen, you might feel like you are not their priority.

It depends on how you look at it.

Holloway annoys me a lot, understand the position you are in with major contender, you are a key low cost piece that can help a team win a cup, he would eventually get paid, the offer sheet isn’t even that much.

Totally, Stan took over though and hasn't done anything, so it's hard to feel good about things going forward.
