It would be nice to have the center problem solved once and for all... in two years or so time...

RNH
Draisaitl
Yakimov
Khaira/Chase

Just enough size and grit behind RNH to help him do his thing... heavy hockey indeed

I'll give you this much...the potential NHL Centre depth looks more promising that it has for a long, long time.

Sounds like Khaira and Yakimov benefited from going back and developing in their respective leagues.

SEND LD BACK.

Indeed. Especially Khaira's skating.

I think its a safe bet that LD is going to get 9 games on pedigree alone.

Nice to see the coke machines of the last few drafts actually have some skills, but what do we call them then? Coke Zeros? All the power and flavour of a power forward without the added uselessness of an Abney?

SEND LD BACK.

I don't know much on Yakimov, but Khaira has always been a huge project. You should check out his thread, where some people (including me! :D) track his development. He's come a long, long way from being a decent BCHLer and added all sorts of dimensions to his game while improving his overall physical ability. The guy has huge determination and continues to meet bars being set for him, but he's still not there yet and will likely need a couple years in the AHL with that same determination and motivation. I really think he'll become a serviceable player.

LD isn't Khaira. He's been tenfold better than him at every level of development, which is ok. Khaira has been doing a good job catching up, but he'll probably never have the skill or physical ability LD has. If Draisaitl is ready, you don't send him back on principle. That'd be like sending back Hall, Stamkos etc because third rounder X benefited from a few more years.

You're ready when you're ready, and every development path is different. Some guys genuinely don't need more time. Let's wait until the camp is done to decide on Draisaitl!

Can't help but think that people are getting ahead of themselves here.

I remember how promising Pitlick (6'2), Hamilton(6'3) and Martindale(6'3) looked coming out of junior and then a few seasons later it looks like we'll maybe get a 4th line energy guy out of the group of them. Hopefully Khaira and Yakimov are able to develop once they play full time in the AHL and not stagnate and eventually just fall off the map.

Wont include Draisaitl in there as he's frankly a completely different level of prospect than any of these guys.

This post is too logical and positive.

Get out of here with your positivism JoeCool. It's unnatural around these parts. :sarcasm:

still have hope for Pitlick. I think he has just been sidetracked by injuries.

That was the first thing I thought of when reading all these posts.. I remember thinking Hamilton - Lander - Pitlick would be our 3rd line of the future too.

Does Khaira go back to the CHL or will he go to OKC?

Hopefully we get a stop gap 2C and then leave the 3C sheltered for one of Draisaitl, Arco, Lander, and even Yakimov to battle it out. Draisaitl gets the first 9 and if he looks over matched in that role then we go to one of Arco, Lander, Yakimov whoever shows they can handle it and be productive.

Hopefully we are still in the picture in march but if we are out of it, I would like to see guys like Yakimov, Moroz, Khaira (if eligible) get some time up with the big club so they can know what to expect and know what is expected of them. It will also put pressure on some others in the system such as Pitlick, Lander, Hamilton.

I believe he'll be in the AHL. Yakimov isn't quite ready for the NHL yet, but he looks like a gem ; if developed properly.

Yeah his .21 GPG in an 18 year old season in russia is a dime a dozen.
look at the list last 15 years.
Semin .21 GPG
Ovechkin .23 GPG
Malkin .23 GPG
Kuznetsov .37 GPG 1.60G/60
Tarasenko .21 GPG .88G/60
Slepyshev .21 GPG 1.00G/60
Yakupov .41 GPG 1.70G/60
Yakimov .21 GPG 1.27G/60

He had 1 PPG and 6 EVG giving the 2nd best EVG/60 rate of the new crop. (yakupov)
plus he was 59% FO% in KHL.

KHL listed him as 222lb but oilers say 202lb.

Yeah...my intent in posting that article was not to induce a false sense of certainty for these prospects. It was after all a semi informal scrimmage probably only a 1/2 step away from a game of shinny. Impossible to extrapolate any really meaningful information from that.

That said it is an intriguing story and it does highlight some areas of improvement for these players.

No need to crush the optimism completely. ;)

AH 1.03 PPG in CHL at 18 is not Elite production.
Unless it is a tout ZS situation like Khaira in WHL this year.
Hamilton and Pitlick seemed like stars. but as we started to get even numbers of rplayers the
NHLE on those three said no.
