No Anton Slepyshev again :(

Of course not, he's got KHL training right now. Well I'm assuming, but last year he did at the same time. Plus he has no contract with us and is a professional with another team in another league.

And this is why we don't take Russians late in the draft... It doesn't matter how skilled they are if they never play for you.

It's been like one year out of the draft... chill. I'd rather they take a chance on a talented russian, then some goon/junior grinder. At least there's upside.

I think the Oilers did a great job of holding the rookie camp in Jasper. Not only becuase of what other have mentioned regarding the tranquil, beautiful scenery, but because this year they aren't under the media's and fan's microscope like in the past 2 or 3 years.

The less pressure on these kids the better. They are already under enough pressure to try to make the big team...no need for all the autograph sessions and media coverage that Tambo put them through.

Maybe they can actually concentrate on hockey instead of all the PR fluff that has pervaded the prospects in the past.

Yah I also like the way they changed the camp so that its more 'fun' rather than hard on-ice workouts for the kids. I'm pretty sure they would much more enjoy golfing in Jasper than shopping at Sobeys lol.

This guy will never come over. Wasted pick, the new Mikhanov.

As an aside, why no Liam?

Congratulations on making a fool of yourselves. He's still under contract with his KHL squad and can't come over.
Khaira and Yakimov are brick houses.

Hoping one of these guys pans out.
If these guys can develop into 3/4 centers down the road, then all the sudden our team will be the one teams are scared of size wise. Draisaitl+Khaira+Yakimov is as big as it gets, and RNH isn't exactly short either.

Is Yakimov there. I would like updates like last year. Wasn't there someone doing first impression of players. I saw on Lowetide, that there's some guy names Diesel giving some info about players.

Watching Draisaitl's July 5th interview at orientation camp was pretty eye opening. He is wise and mature beyond his years. He does not seem like an 18 year old kid. He talks and has the insight of someone who has been in the NHL for years.

Last year was visa issues. Yakimov had come over for the draft so he just stayed for the camp. This year I have no idea. I know he was passed over the first time because he had no interest in coming to NA, but he was happy to be picked by Edm at the time so it could have changed his mind. I hope to see him over next year.

You know who else is missing from this orientation camp? The Jones brothers. Wonder if they were not invited or if they could not make it. Based on Kellen's twitter he is just chilling.

They aren't really part of the organization anymore. They were signed to minor league deals when their college careers ended I believe.

Here is an article with a bit of a report from the camp. http://lowetide.ca/blog/2014/07/you-cant-always-get-what-you-want-2.html

Does Diesel post here? If so, big thanks to him.

His observations on Khaira and Nurse have me very excited.

I was also very interested in this note on Drai's skating: "His straight line skating is certainly an area for improvement. He has a wide set stance that looks like he’s sitting in a… well, saddle. In contrast to his straight like skating that looks a bit clumsy, his footwork in close quarters (especially with the puck) is quite slick and agile."

Hope his observations of Khaira and Nurse are accurate.

The thing i noticed after watching Nurse play in sew is his acceleration while rushing the puck for his size is bonkers.

Ya, I was pretty happy to get something on the camp too. We have some exciting prospects in the pipeline that's for sure. If Diesel does lurk these boards, I'm going to suggest he pull out his iphone and get us some video....:D
