Oilers are good at hockey again: Back in the plofs

People mention the Oilers quality of opponents and that's plenty valid, but let's not forget that they had lot's of rest between games with no back to backs and hardly any travel.
Throw a couple of really good teams at them at the end of long US trip at game 7 or 8 and that streak doesn't happen. It really was a scheduling oddity.
Playing too little and a 9 day break can actually be worse for a team that is playing well but regardless they are still 24-4 in their last 28 games and the winning streak doesn't really matter. The last 28 games is what matters. I am sure the last 28 games is likely due to a full moon, rising sea levels, easy schedule, and the glowing green emerald pointed due south.

It’s refreshing to see there are some mature and decent posters and then there are those that season their copium with way too much salt.
It’s actually hilarious reading so many bad takes and just relish in the fact that you just know the Oilers are in their head.

Anyways, it was a great streak while it lasted. Oil played a good game last night, Hill played really well and Vegas did a great job at preventing pucks getting to the net. I thought the Oilers should have won but then there were a few games in this streak where I felt they were lucky to win. That’s hockey! Hope they can keep the good vibes going and continue to play well.

The quality of opponents thing is the lamest reason going to shit on the Oilers' run. I guess they're the only team in the league to have the schedule rigged in their favour to go on such a historic win streak, and pity on them for beating teams (consecutively) that they should beat.

An absolute remarkable streak by them which has them tied for second all-time in the history books. They've also gone from "they'll be out of the playoffs...HA!" to looking like a contender in a matter of two months. Would it have been cool to see them at least tie the record? Absolutely. But now that it's over, while disappointed, I'm sure they can now just carry on with their season without all the extra hoopla and attention directed towards them (for the time being at least).

I'd be fine with .600 rest of the way. 6 out of 10. That would comfortably get us in playoffs. West is brutal and there is no easy round 1 opponent.. or round 2.

Still need a backup/1b and a RHD upgrade to make a serious run.

The loss... I saw a very good game and thought we played well. Hill was outstanding. We were 💯 and Vegas was still missing Theodore and Eichel. I hope the loss reminds Holland we need more because both those guys should be there in playoffs. Vegas is a measuring stick. We need a few more tweaks if we want to go 7 games with them.

I would rather meet Vancouver than Vegas in the first round. This is not meant to disrespect their superb season so far, but I feel with our current game style Vancouver would be an easier (if there is anything easy in the playoffs) opponent than Vegas. In any case, if you want to win the Stanley Cup you have to win against any opponent, so ultimately doesn't really matter much.

They finally played a good team and lost. Shocking.

An unoriginal thought. Shocking.

I would say all those things disturb rhythm moreso than any benefit of rest. And oddity yes.... But it wasn't exactly an easy feat either.

16 games is 16 games

I want Vancouver simply because of HF and all the arguments on here. That would be some of the funniest reading in years for me.lol

The PDO Kings vs the Easy Schedule PP Merchants!

All Norris god Hughes vs ECHL Bouch!

All world Demko vs no good Skinner!

I want us both to be 100% and lets go to war! May the best team win! I think it'd go to 7.

I’d prefer to meet the Oilers over Vegas as well. Who ever plays Vegas even if they win will have had a tough physical series. Watching last nights game even with them missing their best forward Eichel and Theodore on D you can see just how deep they are.

During the 16 game streak, 9 games on the road (6 in the eastern conference), and 1 b2b (which was also the 2 & 3rd games in 3 & 4 nights).

I was a Flames fan before Vegas got a team.:laugh::laugh::laugh:.

Nothing really against Oiler Fans, so the misery you get that I'm happy about is just collateral damage.

I've been saying for years that they should fold the Flames and just start fresh with an expansion. Look at what a great success that has been for your fandom!

Lots of incentives to be the top seed in the West. The top 7 teams (if LA rebounds now that Todd is gone) are all strong. Whoever sneaks into that 8th spot is looking to be a team with negative goal differential.

I can understand having the preference for playing the Oilers, but I find your logic to be a little strange.

Notably because the Oilers are both bigger in terms of height/ weight, more physical in terms of hits, and generally tougher in terms of literal fighting than Vegas?

Canucks fans again pointing out strength of schedule while having one of the easiest schedules in the league so far…

Like Canuck fans have said, statistics like PDO don’t apply to your team because of feelings, but now strength of schedule doesn’t apply too?

Bold way to look at hockey. Not based in reality, but bold nonetheless. I can’t wait to hear what we come up with next.

The one thing about SoS though is that it does naturally get skewed a little bit against good teams just naturally because they both beat everyone and don't have to play themselves.

For example the 80s Oilers had the easiest schedule in the league for basically an entire decade supposedly. 😂

I’m just happy they aren’t gonna stomp Anaheim to break the record.

Just a normal stomping
Kind stomping, some may say a gentle stomping

Not to mention strength of schedule uses your point percentage, so a bad slide or a really good run can skew this massively. Similar to PDO, Strength of Schedule is just another useless way of looking at things that someone made up because they were bored

Well it's 90% Oilers fans that try to shit on Vancouver and scream PDO/Unsustainable in every thread. Guess we are in your heads also lol

I said it before, but outside of LA. Any Pacific team should be licking their chops to play Edmonton. Vancouver and Edmonton are going to be the two weakest links in this post season for the West
