Oilers are good at hockey again: Back in the plofs

Is Pickard good enough to be their backup? I think the goalie position is important enough for the playoffs to merit an upgrade, just in case. Stauffer thinks they need a middle six forward. I say they leave the defense and forward corps alone because they got something really good going. Use a prospect or draft pick or two for a legit backup who could even potentially put pressure on Skinner.

Pens have the regular season (17) and playoff (14) win streak records. Going to be pretty annoyed if oilers take both this year 😩
Serious question.. did you guys win your cups in those seasons that you did this?

I read we are about to catch (or caught) Columbus and I don't remember them winning a a cup. You guys obviously have.. please tell me it wasn't a year where you were eliminated in round 1 when you set these records!?

Damn. That’s just you man. All Oiler fans prefer it to happen in the regular season or even pre season.

But it's much harder to win in the playoffs. You just don't have the time and space anymore that you have in the regular season.

But good on the Oilers, 16 straight is a heck of an accomplishment.

Yes they do. This isn't the first time a hockey team has not face murders row in a 10 game stretch. Apparently this is happening because oilers arnt facing Boston 8 times a year of something.

If anything I expect it to be some sort of Anaheim situation that does them in.

They lost to the Islanders in the playoffs in the season where they won 17 straight. I think it was even the first round.
You can't seriously think they might not have won the Stanley Cup the year they won 14 straight? That would be tough to do.

If anything having the All Star break can only benefit the Oilers and re-energize them to win the next 10 straight. They very well could win 25 straight which is unheard of.

Schedule gets pretty tough.
We have a back to back at the end of 3 games in 4 nights coming up in the next 10. We won in 2 of these situations during the streak but they are always tough for any team.

On the surface, this is a very accurate statement and I don't disagree. My big fear is that management sits back and thinks we are set and do nothing to give us the edge to beat those teams in playoffs (and they are all awesome).

During this win streak they went and signed Corey Perry. This doesn’t at all seem like a club sitting back. Holland is on his last year. Fully expect Oilers to be buyers at the deadline. The only thing likely to hamper us is cap space.

No 92-93 pens were arguably the best pens team ever but they lost in the 2nd round to the Islanders.

Oh look a fan with multiple teams that both happen to be good.

The NHL should honestly have records completely separate after they went with the OT gimmick.

That's just me and I'm an Oilers fan. Team records and individual records.

Nothing wrong with that. We cannot compare records to ones prior to that.

I think it's fine tbh, I wouldn't put an asterisk next to it. There's more parity now than 30 years ago so it's just as impressive. And the pens won a game in OT, which didn't exist when they broke the Islanders record of 15.

Still damn impressive.

the Oilers are currently on the longest undefeated streak in franchise history regardless of ties or OTs. This is a longer undefeated than most teams have ever had, although the Canadiens, flyers, bruins have had a bunch of long undefeated streaks. The Penguins 17 game win streak was also an 18 game undefeated streak, so not much difference. Besides, if any of those undefeated streaks had gone to a shootout they’d higher chance of ending earlier. Shootouts are almost a coin toss and a tie lets you skate by without having to actually win against elite opponents.

In the 3 games in 4 nights is when I think the streak ends. Pickard is playing well but I don't think his play is sustainable for much longer. This guy has been a minor league goalie for a reason.

Skinner is eventually going to need more rest to stay sharp mentally. I don't see him as a goalie being able to handle a 66-67 game workload without breaking down.

This is not directed at the two teams I am mentioning, but I just copied it off of Twitter for any haters lol

In the last 16 games the leafs LOST to a non-playoff team 4 times or 25% of their games. In the last 16 games the Canucks lost to a non-playoff team 4 times or 25 % of their games. When your team can’t beat non-playoff teams don’t chirp the fans of other teams.

I think it's the Vegas game after the break.

100% 11 games in 20 nights and, as of now, we really don't have a second NHL goalie.

Maybe one day but he was a rookie last year and agree again. The current 'run him into the ground' before playoffs is not something I like. I'd be happy to see him get a lot less starts and back as our playoff starter.
