Oilers are good at hockey again: Back in the plofs

This model has to be questioned though, because they have the Canucks 3rd, with the 5th best EV xGF%, and based on your game day comments this would be a ridiculous assertion
The only thing that I bring up about VAN are just historical stats. Things that have never been sustainable. I don't make things up.

But you know what, records are made to be broken right?

I sh** on them about it, but Vancouver is probably going to break the PDO record since it's been tracked b/c of their hot start and they might still end the year with 6-7 19% shooters when some contenders have 0. They just are not really cooling down. Maybe they get hit with the regression next year. I don't know.

That's all. I have never said they are a bad team. They are a playoff team. Not a true contender to me though.

Probably laughing because mkatcherin regularly calls out the Canucks in the game day thread as being outplayed every game
The thing with Van is, they get early leads most games, to their credit. They then are defending that lead. I get it. The last game, I was just commenting on how many Grade AAA chances STL was getting in period one.

Not every team works this way. For example, Edmonton with a lead has the highest or one of the highest shot differentials in the league. Like +106. They don't really go into a big shell. Canucks have their own system and it is working. Canucks have a very low shot differential with a lead. Like -36. I personally think they spend too long defending the lead instead of being a little more aggressive.

This would be true if I didn't see them using that emoji on basically anything Bouchard related or positive to the Oilers. Every fanbase has trolls, just the way it is. That one just stands out to me more because I remember objective conversations about the Oilers as early as last year. I usually don't go into the mainboards GDT so I have no idea what goes on in there.

I've been critical of the Canucks PDO also, but my statistical posts in the Canucks thread largely went ignored so I saw no reason to keep going back in there.

I mean that’s fair, and I think obviously some less nuanced game day comments are just taking the piss, but I think that’s what WestCoast is largely doing as well.

The thing is someone will post a statistical analysis with a lot of effort and thought put into it, but whether it is in response to westcoast or not it will just be met with that mockery and no counter argument. There is never, as far as I've seen, anything from that poster with effort coming back.

I think it's part trolling and part just not being very good at arguing or understanding arguments, so they just resort to this middle-school stuff.

Exactly. Every single game thread you can count on him complaining about the Canucks being outplayed or the Canucks getting favourable reffing. At this point I assume he’s not actually serious so I just have a good laugh. Sports for me is entertainment. Some take it far too seriously.
At the end of the day what counts in sports is wins and losses. The rest is just mostly noise. The Oilers are doing well now because they’re winning games. The fans should just enjoy that instead of trying to diminish the accomplishments of other teams. It shows insecurity.

What has also been evident during this 15 game run is that every team the Oilers play seem to be bringing their A+ games in an effort to be the ones to end the streak.

Don't think that facet can be underestimated. Getting opponents at their best is something the Oilers always seem to get simply by virtue of having McDavid and Draisaitl but this feels a little bit different.

You’ve also never had a Stanley cup!

15 game win streak, no matter how you slice that pie, is still a 15 game win streak. The ones doing everything in their power to denegrate the streak seem to be the saltiest fans of their rivals.

Agreed.

On any given night any team has the chance to win. I mean, the Canucks have been beaten by the Sharks, Blue Jackets and the Wild. Boston has been beat by the Wild...twice, the Blue Jackets, the Ducks and Habs. HTF did that happen? Oh. My. God.

Stringing together 15 is certainly an accomplishment and anyone denigrating it is certainly salty. And I love it.

The Oilers should be so thankful that all 15 games on this heater their opponents realized they suck and just gave the Oilers the wins. So thankfully these opponents had zero pride and were happy to be apart of a historical run by the Oilers. God bless the NHL for being such a giving league.
I'm just glad that we had 15 games in a row against ECHL teams.

People talking about strength of schedule and back to back.... why?

You know that the road team in the 2nd game of back to back games have a higher winning percentage than a normal road game right? right? (it goes up by 2% odds)

And you also know the difference in games remaining from the easiest to hardest strength of schedule isn't statistically significant right?

Why is it disrespectful? It's pretty well established that Wayne is #1 to most, and the 2/3/4 are fairly interchangeable. Just because one guy who is trolling has Mario as the #4 of that list, doesn't mean it is disrespectful, does it?
I didn't realize he was trolling so if trolling isn't disrespectful, then fine I guess.

People trying to discredit a 15 game win streak are absolutely hilarious. Yalls teams play the exact same teams that we play. Why don't they simply win 15 in a row?
because they don't want to embarrass the bottom feeders, this is just another classless move by the classless Oilers organization to humiliate the poor weaker teams. A classy organization like Vancouver would never do that to other teams, they let the Blue Jackets win to give those poor souls some confidence.....good on you Canucks :thumbu:

I see the board could not with stand 2 positive oiler threads. I will keep this in mind when we have 5 positive leaf or nuck threads
Without looking.. I think there already are 5 positive Nuck threads.

Kings have 10 days off for all star break and play the Oilers (who will have played I think 3 games already) first game back. I'm expecting the Oilers to single-handedly get McClellan and Blake fired, hopefully Luc too.

Actually think that's possibly where the streak ends if it lasts that long. Beating Anaheim the night before would be #18 and I'd expect an emotional letdown.

Kings win and McLellan + Blake get lifetime appointments from the Kings. Seems like a fair trade-off.

This is what it feels like to have your own Three On Zero

Now you know how we feel with “5 on 0.”

But to be fair, at least that Oilers poster uses statistics.

Fair enough but he doesn’t understand the statistics he posts. PDO is not a predictive stat that says a team with a high PDO will fall in the standings. Three of the four top PDO teams this year are the Canucks, Jets and Bruins. Coincidentally those happen to be three of the best teams by points who also have the currently accepted top 3 Vezina candidates. Maybe he should warn those other two fan bases every single day that their position atop the league is not sustainable as well.
