Oilers are good at hockey again: Back in the plofs

The weirdest part about Canucks fans harping on the Oilers' schedule is I'm pretty sure Vancouver hasn't played a good team since before Christmas, either, when they lost to Dallas.
Yea, they really got a murderers row in December and January

Now you know how we feel with “5 on 0.”

But to be fair, at least that Oilers poster uses statistics.
I'm convinced three on zero is just a bot that is programmed to respond to any mention of the oilers with something derogatory. If it's a real person he must be miserable with how much time he spends on here just hating on a team.

What is so ridiculous is that when the Oilers started the 15 game winning streak they were 13-15-1.......THE weak team. Its only now people say we have been playing the poor teams because of a 15 game win steak.

3 of the first 4 wins of the streak were against the Rangers, Devils and Kings.

As an Oilers fan I love how so many people care so much about a team they supposedly hate. So concerned, so opinionated, so bothered........so butt hurt lmfao.

You know the drill.

McDavid setting records last year "PP merchant", "Doesn't play a 200ft game"
Oilers setting records this year "Easy schedule" , "New coach bump"

This is how people cope.

well, we are different from Edmonton for sure
cause we've never had a 1st overall pick and always drop spots in draft lottery

You’ve also never won a Stanley Cup and we have won 5 so there is that to consider.

I mean if we are digging up drafts that are over a decade ago, why not go back to a little further.

There's just no way to discredit this current win streak. For simplicity's sake, even if the Oilers had, say, a 65% chance of winning going into each game, that's still 0.65 to the power of FIFTEEN. This is super rarified air

From the perspective of trying to match the '93 Penguins' record of 17-straight wins (and we pause here to recognize that 1942-43 to 1982-83 teams didn't have overtime to add wins to streaks, and of course only recent-era clubs had easy-to-score in three-on-three overtimes and shoot-outs), the All Star Break is kind of a drag.

The Oilers play Nashville tomorrow, who are just okay this season, but they beat Edmonton 5-2 last time they faced each other. So, that's going to be hard enough. But if the Oilers win it, they're one win from the NHL record... but then have 9 days off.

So, even in the best-scenario, that's likely to sap their momentum. I recall in previous seasons, the Oilers tended to look like ass right after the All-Star Break.

Fair enough but he doesn’t understand the statistics he posts. PDO is not a predictive stat that says a team with a high PDO will fall in the standings. Three of the four top PDO teams this year are the Canucks, Jets and Bruins. Coincidentally those happen to be three of the best teams by points who also have the currently accepted top 3 Vezina candidates. Maybe he should warn those other two fan bases every single day that their position atop the league is not sustainable as well.
My last post here.
Didn't this come after you said last post here?

FTR.. please keep posting but your mic drop lasted 2 hours.

As I said before, the true Oilers will show up after the allstar break when they have a brutal schedule with 9 back to back games and face more competitive teams. I'll predict right now we'll have fire Holland threads up and trade a goalie to the Oilers proposals again.
Thats what everyone said last year when the Oilers had a hard schedule to end the year.

They went 17-3. You probably weren't watching though as you are just another bandwagon Canucks fans that will disappear when Vamcouver turns back into pumpkins come playoff time.

Honestly speaking what makes you think they will turn into pumpkins playoff time?
The last time with a much worse team they won a round 2 make the playoffs, and a round against the cup champions while going game 7 with Vegas.

They also have a ton of talent, not to mention they already said they WILL be buying at the deadline, and 1st + Prospects are on the board.

They will get even better, even if their shooting percentage goes down, they are still good enough to win a few rounds.

I am a canucks fan and yes, the Canucks should deserve the same criticism.

Just because you point out something for another team it doesn't automatically mean you don't apply the same perspective to your own team. Only a homer does that

HAHAHA!
Bur that's exactly what you did!!

Maybe. It's possible. I doubt it but perhaps.

But wTF has that got to do with anything in a thread that says 'Oilers climb back into playoffs?

As an Oilers' fan for 40 years, I'm of course happy to see them winning a lot right now and back in a playoff spot.

But --- and I don't know why, exactly --- this 15-game win streak hasn't really made me happy. Like, I appreciated the 8-game win streak more, maybe because it saved the season or because it was against tougher teams, or something. The current streak feels very 'meh' to me, for reasons I can't really explain.

Maybe I'm sort of fed-up with bandwagon Oiler fans. I know every franchise's fanbase (esp. as represented on this forum) is like this, but I feel Oilers fans on this forum are somewhat insane. Like, they over-criticize every player to death, to the point where I wonder why they even bother cheering for the club. Now, of course, everyone's done a 180 and is praising every player to the skies, but it's all so fickle. I know as soon as they lose one game, there's going to be 100 posts on the Oilers' forum ripping various players apart and demanding trades, etc., etc.

Or maybe it's because I don't really care about the regular season now. So much is riding on this season (and possibly next season), as the year that may define the entire 2020's-era Oilers. So, we all expected them to make the playoffs before the season stated, and now they're in a playoff spot. So... beyond that, what is there to get excited about...? Overall, they've just about met expectations for the season as a whole, which isn't really anything to get excited about.

I feel the Oilers now remind me a bit of the 1986-87 and 1987-88 Oilers (minus the preceding Cups). They're at the stage where the regular season and personal stats no longer matter, and the only thing that counts is qualifying and winning the odd game against rivals (Vegas, Colorado, Calgary).

A Canucks/Oilers first round would be pretty cool. Hopefully the Oilers can hold down a playoff spot.
For fun...

What do you think is more likely?

1. Oil making the playoffs
2. Nucks winning a round

Perhaps
But one really has to question -
When do the Flames EVER peak?

Never understood this way of thinking. If these tesms are so bad then why aren't there dozens of teams on 15 game heaters?
I have now seen this question asked by a dozen different posters to the same fans that keep saying easy schedule. What I haven't seen? One good answer to that question.

really care about the regular season now.
You make a great point. When we sucked and couldn't make playoffs.. every regular season game was important. Now, I could care less if finish first... all I care about is winning playoff rounds.

I also think the West is murderer's row... no matter where we finish, our first round opponent will be tough and could easily take us out right away (much to HF's joy.lol).

Remarkable streak. Improvements in depth scoring and a confident goalie that's in the zone, they are the real deal. They are probably feeling a little fatigue but I wonder if they are looking forward to the upcoming break or would they rather just keep going to maintain that momentum.
