Few more stats though

7th in playoff wins and 5th in games played

On save percentage.. in between Hellebyuck and Vasi and won more games than both of them.

I also used min 4 games from last year playoffs.. guess who was first?

So he's keeping company with Vasi and Helle but not quite as good as Campbell based on his playoff stats.lol

He also outperformed Vezina winner Ulmark in last years playoffs based on wins and games played. Both were sub .900.

I will repeat that I didn't think he was great but he was also meant to be a backup last season. Not a starter but we signed Campbell and he shit the bed (despite having an elite save percentage in the playoffs and leading them in that category).
I have Skinner in the 15-20 range for NHL goalies overall.

I am an Oiler fan, just want to make that clear. I never seen one Vancouver fan claiming they will even win a cup let alone being the greatest team ever. Also how many years did the Oilers miss the playoffs? Incase you are unaware they missed the playoffs 10 straight years which is a record. I don't think we have any room to bash another team.

Having said the above I hope we smoke Vancouver if we meet in the playoffs but there are no guarantees if there were Boston would've won last year.

Like Vancouver or hate them you have to admit they have a bright future ahead of them.

I wish all Oilers fans could be the voice of reason. Class goes a long ways

Not to disagree with you but just to nitpick: the Oilers tied the Panthers record of 10 straight years out of the playoffs, but the Sabres have since beaten that with 13 straight years out.

Also, the Panthers would probably have made it 11 but the lockout happened in the middle of their streak.

On the flipside, with the Oilers missing in 18 and 19, we made it once in 13 years. Ouch.

Still too many odd man's and breakaways given up. When teams try to stretch them I find the system isn't preventing the long plays.
You are describing the October/November Oilers that were destroyed on rushes.

Sounds like you watched 1st period highlights against the Kraken, an anomalous period for the Oilers, and confirmation bias kicked in.

There aren't many rush-chance stats readily available to disprove your point, because they are either behind a paywall or only tracked individually, so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

One of the biggest differences I have seen on the Oilers is when they have a sloppy period like they did in the 1st period against the Kracken is they are able to make adjustments and recover. They come back the next period and those mistakes are gone and they can shut it down the rest of the game. Typically when you saw a period like that it almost told you what the story of the game was going to be. They could never seem to adapt or fix their errors. The team is so fundamentally different then they were 30 games ago in how they play and how they deal with different game situations it's hard to believe.

Am I the only non-Oilers fan who likes the Oilers. I usually don't like the golden boys in sports (Crosby and Lebron) but I actually like McDavid. And the Oilers play fun hockey.
McDrai won me over when the were pacing for 40 point playoff campaigns. They really want to win and the talent is undeniable. I've been rooting for them since. I know it gets mocked but I also really liked McDavid encouraging everyone to come into camp a few weeks early this year.

Maybe it's just PR fluff, not ruling that out, but regardless you get the impression that McDavid really does want to win and it's eating him alive when they lose. I don't get that impression whatsoever from the Leafs core.

Nah, I don't think there is any show there at all.

If there is one thing about McDavid it's that he is legit as competitive as it gets. You can see it, he burns with the fire of 1000 suns, to the point where it's almost hard to watch at times.

People meme about it, but he's straight "...and I took that personally" personified.

Reminds me a bit of the post-Shaq Lakers led by Kobe Bryant. Hard not to root for a guy like that. It's best for the league if the best players are winning championships, i really hope he can win one here soon. This year seems as good as any since there aren't any powerhouse teams. Hopefully the Oilers have a big TDL

In case you were unaware.....WAS ;)

and going for 13....

It's great now but when you get to the mid rounds and weed out the other teams, that's not going to be a recipe for success, and the same questions and frustration will be expressed in the off season if it doesn't work.

That's the measure for them into year 9 of the McDavid era... it's about getting to the promised land and what they are going to do to get there.
So McDrai being amazing Isnt a recipe for winning and depth scoring and good defense also arent a recipe for success? What exactly do you recommend?

Their run is seriously freaking impressive. Weren't they on something like an 8 game win streak before this one? Like 8 wins, then a loss or two, then 13 more wins? Or am I just remembering the same streak?

And it's just the win streak, it's how they're winning. Skinner in particular has completely turned his season around. I did a double take when I saw his 2.53 GAA. He had the worst numbers in the league (yes, I think worse than Campbell) at one point and is now close to breaking into the top 10 in GAA.

The whole team isn't as insanely hot offensively as they were last season either. Bouchard is on another level from any other D-man offensively over the years and McDavid is obviously his usual dominant self, but guys like Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins are a little quieter this year while McLeod and Foegele have stepped up in the secondary scoring department.

It'll be interesting to see what they do at the deadline.

Yea man you’re right. It was 8 wins. 3 losses. And the current streak.
