"Luck"

They must be really lucky their last 82 games played going 53-21-8

Are you sure you are not mistaking Edmonton for vancouver with unsustainable shooting %'s
Yes, I will say winning 8 games in a row and 11 games in a row and going like 20-2 in the last 22 has a fair amount to do with luck

I do not believe this team is good enough to maintain the same win % and go 75-7 over a full season

I also believe the team was much better then a 2-9 record to start the year and got very unlucky during that stretch

The winning every game is not sustainable, but it has not been luck. Good PK. Great defensively. Great goaltending. Low PP%. What they are doing is sustainable in winning a lot more than they lose.

You clearly have not watched the Jets, their record is not from Helle bailing them out. They actually have depth and are winning as a team.
I watched both games vs the Oilers. So a super small sample size.

You know that most people don't like watch every game from every team right?

I remember that game against WPG at the start of the year where Helly saved their bacon and Skinner gave them a free goal to tie it up

I mean... No team is. They'll lose some games for sure. Either they're tired, get outplayed/outgoalied/etc.

But most of the games they've won during the streak they've deserved to win.

Oilers played a good game last night, easily deserved the win, and the score somewhat flattered my Leafs. They play with speed, have talent, play pretty physical at times, and Skinner is playing well for them right now. It looks like a recipe for success, assuming it all continues.

They are back to where they should be in the standings. Probably a top 7-12 team at the end of the day.

Horrible luck to start the year, incredible luck now, but they have essentially evened each other out

However, they are still far from making real damage in the post season. They didnt really improve at all in the offseason, so theyll fair about as good in the PO this year as they have the last 2 years

Also, the takes on Skinner were outright embarrassing. Skinner is a very solid goalie and the losses were never on him. He is playing as good now as he was at the start of the season, it is just the Oilers are getting better bounces now.
I mean they finished 6th in the NHL last year and 4 points out of 2nd with the 3rd best goal differential in the league, and that was with Jack Campbell giving them .888 goaltending over 36 games and only having a quarter season with Ekholm. I think a full season of Campbell out and Ekholm in and they should be more than a top 7-12 team. They're well on their way there right now.

Skinner’s ok, but I don’t see how some of the early struggles weren’t on him

It was a combination of skinner struggling with routine saves and some of the worst defending I’ve ever seen with what woody was trying to implement at the beginning of the season.

Knobloch and Coffey has been amazing for the team and skinner is now making the routine saves look easy and makes the occasional sure goal saves now, night and day from 3 months ago

Yea, I think there was so much wrong earlier that there isn’t one thing you can pinpoint. The goalies weren’t making the saves they should combined with the defense being poor leads to a bunch of goals and probably compounds the problem by hurting the confidence of both. But like everyone, Skinner had to be better and he has been. When on his game I think he’s good enough for the Oilers to win with.

Woah someone is defensive today! How am I supposed to know what fan of what team he is. Are you suggesting all Oiler fans are always humble? Also does 4 first overall picks ring a bell? Is that basement dweller status or buried under the foundation?

Wowwww, how original! Are you gonna talk about the city of Edmonton next too? Get some new material rather than recycle the same old junk.

I’ve never been to Edmonton so I can’t comment. As for recycling material all I did was bring up what happened. I don’t watch Edmonton a ton because I don’t like them. Only when they play Anaheim (no it hasn’t been been any fun lately) so I can’t comment on their actual game during this run they are on just like I couldn’t when they started like crap.

I can't tell if the Jets are good, or if Hellebyuck is being a 1-man goalie show for a mediocre team.
I kinda suspect its the latter.

Oilers did manage to beat the Jets after the coaching change in a butt-clenching squeaker.

Helle still had a .947 s% and was enroute to "goalie-ing" the Oilers in a very lopsided shot-clock.
He was stopping breakaways, cross-seam one-timers, and all kinds of rebounds and highdanger shots.

Then he lets a muffin in from center ice which completely derailed the Jets.

Take McDavid off the Oilers and Helly off the Jets and try to guess who would win more games this year

You ask a question usually you want an answer and I am curious what someone thinks about players and their ability to carry teams on their shoulders.
Thought maybe it was a rhetorical, but it could be either. I dont think either would fare well. They are both by far the most important cog. If drai is top notch, it would edge to the Oilers I think.

So McDavid has won more games in a row with the Oilers than Wayne Gretzky ever did? That's pretty impressive and shows everyone that McDavid knows how to win!

Remind us, what are you actually contributing to this thread?

Still salty about 2006? Because I don't see any other reason why the Oilers have squandered the Ducks dreams.
That probably started it. I just never really liked them that much and their fans were intolerable here in anything Ducks related after 2017 they were so salty and cry babies. Not all but a lot like any fan base would have some trolls.

My first contribution to this thread before everyone started coming at me was “Guys they could win the cup, I’m scared” or something like that lol. I wasn’t even in here bashing the Oilers. I’m not even arguing about anything lol.

Just responded to apparently some weird Flames fan acting as an Oilers fan to get people worked up for some silly comment he made. Now everyone’s mad at me! Stop being mean everyone!
