View attachment 803049We are also starting to win some close games. that's very encouraging. Always having to score 5 was not sustainable.
They’re playing great, but looking at that schedule it’s not THAT surprising to see they’re on a big win streak. Hard to find an easier 8 game stretch than that. Not sure who the other two wins were against in their current run though.

The two opponents prior to that screengrab were NJ and NYR.

It's as impressive how they are playing as it is that they are racking up wins. I wasn't as excited as most in Edmonton were about the team going into the playoffs last season when they went 17-2-1 to end the season. They had a lot of holes in their game. Right now they are playing the right way and winning. If they can keep playing this style the issue will be having the right roster pieces going into the playoffs.

18-3 in their last 21.

A quarter of the season can't be attributed to an easy schedule.
It's HF... people will always find a way to diminish the Oilers.lol

It's an easy schedule
McD is the only doing anything

Just goes on and on. We could win the Cup and there would still be 100 posters ready to tell us that we absolutely suck.lol

Here is my one gripe about the streak...

Evander Kane.

We just hit 10 games straight and set a franchise record (which is hard to do when you consider our 1980's teams) and one of the first things I read today is Kane bitching about his minutes.lol

Team player my ass.

I don't see an issue with it. When we sucked he was our best forward due to brute force effort. We'd probably be out of a spot still if not for him. Plus, he's a playoff performer

I don't think he "bitched" about his minutes. That's inaccurate.

Kane is injured these days, I think, which might be (part of) the reason he's on the third line, with the lesser minutes. However, I'm sure even he was surprised when the Draisaitl - McLeod - Foegele line suddenly started doing well. He'll have to really work his way back to the top-six now....

Thankfully we hit the 10 game win streak before we face the Leafs. But I hope we win cause 34, Divine or HockeyVirus will never let me hear the end of it.

How has Skinner been?

Is he building the confidence of his team in front of him or are they just out gunning everyone despite his play?

I think he's been solid to outstanding. He has something like a .950 save percentage in the recent five or so games. He's calm and a gamer during those crucial save moments as well. He was the best player on either team during the recent Bedard-less Chicago game.

During this win streak he has played 7 of the 10 games and has a .957 SV%.

He's been very solid, but it's a small sample size and he looked very solid at times last year as well. But as we all know he cratered in the playoffs.

The Oilers really need to manage his load and let Pickard start pretty frequently as the schedule gets busier from February on.

He is 14-2 with a 1.87 GAA and a .930 save percentage in his last 16 games. Pretty solid but the Oilers are also playing well defensively for the most part as well. I don't even agree with Oiler fans that claim he was bad in last season's playoffs. Maybe a few goals he could have had back but for the most part the Oilers had numerous pathetic defensive breakdowns that lead to goals, especially against Vegas.

Although they've played better and they'll likely shoe-in to the playoffs, a large part of their success in this win streak is also due to playing weak and/or slumping teams. With that said, you cannot fault them for winning. Bouchard I feel has stepped up, McDavid is obviously playing well, etc.

I just anticipate a regression (obviously) to ending up to being either a wildcard or a 3rd seed in the Pacific instead of the pace they're trending towards. Systematically I haven't been impressed and they're still bleeding a lot of scoring chances and carrying on into the final months is when they face tougher competition schedule wise.

The oilers have still been winning despite forgetting how to score over the past 4 or so games. Chicago, Detroit, Montreal, and Ottawa were all a slog to win. The pp has stalled and they probably should have lost a couple of those games but good teams find a way to win. Defensively they’ve been much better and if they can get their pp back to what it usually is they’ll be tough to stop. This Toronto game will be a test.

I hope Edmonton can deal kane somehow not because he’s a bad player but he just doesn’t slot in well on our team. The top line is set and he has zero chemistry with draisaitl he has value and isn’t a 3rd line player.

Even if the Oilers win there will be someone griping about the officiating or something else (maybe not those guys specifically). Every fanbase has a couple of people that have excuses for everything.

Oh that doesn't bother me.
Only the end result.

Since the coaching change they are:

5th in CA/60
4th in SA/60
7th in GA/60
5th in xGA/60
6th in SCA/60
7th in HDCA/60

Doesn't look too shabby to me and matches the eye test. What about their system is it that doesn't work in your opinion?
