Shouldn't be perhaps but they will be by Callahan's agent. Brown didn't talk to 30 teams and take the highest offer.
Cap should go up next year. But then players will be asking for more.
I can't see how management lets Callahan walk. i expect he will get a 6-8 year deal. You never know. But he doesn't seem like a guy who has forgotten his roots. Still was driving a Honda SUV on beginnings/24-7.
I'd hate to see Callahan walk or be traded, he's been one of my favorite players on the team for years, but I think signing him to a Clarkson/Brown type contract would be a major mistake.
If I was Sather, I'd prefer a 4 year / $20 million deal. Since that's probably not going to fly with Callahan's agent, the most I'd do is a 6 year $30 million deal. Absolute most. But we will see.
You also have to factor in what Lundqvist's raise will be like... Now that Rask is making $7m a year. Even with the cap going up, Lundqvist will likely net $8+ million per year. I definitely see Lundqvist being signed to something like a 6 year / $48 million contract.
